Rubber bearing isolation for structures prone to earthquake - a cost effectiveness analysis

  • Recent severe earthquakes in and around the vital public places worldwide indicate the severe vulnerability of ground excitation to be assailed. Reducing the effect of seismic lateral load in structural design is an important conception. Essentially, seismic isolation is required to shield the superstructure in such a way that the building superstructure would not move when the ground is shaking. This study explores the effectiveness, design, and practical feasibility of base isolation systems to reduce seismic demands on buildings of varying elevations. Thus, static and dynamic analyses were conducted based on site-specific bi-directional earthquakes for base-isolated as well as fixed-based buildings. Remarkably, it was discovered that isolators used in low-rise to high-rise structures tend to significantly decrease the structural responses of seismic prone buildings. The higher allowable horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility and ensure good structural health of the building stories. Reinforcement from vertical and horizontal members can be reduced in significant amounts for BI buildings. Thus, although incorporating base isolators increases the initial outlay, it considerably diminishes the total structural cost.

  • Recent interest in the construction sector, rising about the environment and eco-friendly recycled material resources, and increase the development of method But despite these efforts, and the diverse functional and structural changes in the structure can not be an appropriate response to the functional waterproof structural changes in the structures and appropriate response Diversification does not waterproof and functional issues such as durability, and which are occurring due to the structure to secure stability and durability, never sees the conservative economic losses due to import constructability reinforcement situation. Therefore, this study applies to structure the existing waterproof method (hereinafter referred to as structures water-resistant methode), and to review recent issues of environmental pollution and resource waste, and taking on environmental issues, such as Revelation and functional Inorganic mixed in a way to leverage the manufacturing water-resistant material "Re Inorganic, functional and environmentally friendly high-viscosity mix asphalt waterproof rubber reinforcements, and taking conservative" for the characterization and performance assessment to the issues raised by the structure and whether the judge would respond.

Infilled steel tubes as reinforcement in lightweight concrete columns: An experimental investigation and image processing analysis

  • Under constant and cyclic axial compression, square composite short columns reinforced with Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) added with scrap rubber infilled inside steel tubes and with different types of concrete were cast and tested. The test is carried out to find the effectiveness of utilizing an aggregate manufactured from industrial waste and to address the problems associated with the need for alternative reinforcements along with waste management. The main testing parameters are the type of concrete, the effect of fiber inclusion, and the significance of rubber-infilled steel tubes. The failure modes of the columns and axial load-displacement curves of the steel tube-reinforced columns were all thoroughly investigated. According to the test results, all specimens failed due to compression failure with a longitudinal crack along the loading axis. The fiber-reinforced column specimens demonstrated improved ductility and energy absorption. In comparison to the normal-weight concrete columns, the lightweight concrete columns significantly improved the axial load-carrying capacity. The addition of basalt fiber to the columns significantly increased the yield stress and ultimate stress to 9.21%. The corresponding displacement at yield load and ultimate load was reduced to 10.36% and 28.79%, respectively. The precision of volumetric information regarding the obtained crack quantification, aggregates, and the fiber in concrete is studied in detail through image processing using MATLAB environment.

A Study on the Factors for Improvement of Chemical and Physical Properties in Fluoric Rubber Coating for Use of the Extremely Acidic Environments

  • It is known that the fluoric resin has the most outstanding properties in the extremely acidic environment of high temperature. However, this resin is the thermal hardening type that needs long time heat treatments above $250^{\circ}C$. It's impossible to use in situ in the extremely acidic environment such as a huge FGD ductworks or industrial chemical tanks. Furthermore, even the natural hardening type fluoric coatings which can be hardened less than $120^{\circ}C$ can not be applied to the highly acidic environmental plants because of its chemical resistance. In this study, new fluoric coatings that has excellent thermal resistance, chemical resistance and corrosion resistance has been developed in order to solve above problems and to be applied to the large plant structures in the field. These newly developed coatings are organic and inorganic composite type that have fluoric rubber(100 wt%), fluoric resin(5~50 wt%), oxalates(5~30 wt%), inorganic fillers mixed with plate-type and bulk-type solids(20~150 wt%), hardeners(0.5~5 wt%), and hardening hasteners(0.1~3 wt%). The best chemical and physical properties of these coatings are acquired by variation of adhesive reinforcement agents, dispersants, leveling agents. Mixing ratios of plate-type and bulk-type inorganic fillers influence the thermal properties, abrasive resistance and chemical infiltration properties of coatings. The mixing control is also very important to have homogeneous surface and removing inner voids of coatings.

  • 고무조성물에 있어 실리카 종류 및 실란 커프링제 효과를 연구하기 위해 실리카와 실란 커프링된 실리카를 함유한 고무조성물의 물리적특성에 대하여 조사하였다. 실란 커프링된 실리카의 비표면적 및 세공부피는 실란화반응이 진행되는 동안 실란 커프링제가 실리카의 세공을 막기 때문에 순수 실리카의 비표면적 및 세공부피보다 작게 나타났다. 큰 비표면적과 고구조의 실리카는 짧은 스코치시간과 빠른 가황속도를 나타냈다. 반면 실란 커프링된 실리카는 실란 커프링제에 함유되어 있는 유황 성분의 영향으로 순수실리카보다 더 짧은 스코치시간과 더 빠른 가황속도를 나타내었다. 실리카의 비표면적 및 구조에 비해 큰$(N_2SA-CTAB)$값은 높은 300% 모듈러스를 나타냈다. 또한 실리카의 비표면적 및 구조는 마모특성을 나타내는 PICO 손실량에는 영향을 미치지 않았으나, cut and chip 손실량에는 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Preparation of Silica-Filled SBR Compounds with Low Rolling Resistance by Wet Masterbatch

  • The physical properties of silica-filled SBR compounds (WSBR) prepared using silica-SBR wet masterbatches (WMB) were systematically investigated to understand the effect of the surface treatment of silica on the reinforcement performance of SBR. Treatment of silica with bis(triethoxysilylpropyl)tetrasulfide (TESPT) in the liquid phase, followed by mixing with an SBR solution and recovery by water stripping, easily produced silica-SBR WMB. However, insufficient surface treatment in terms of the amount and stability of the incorporated TESPT led to considerable silica loss and inevitable TESPT elution. Pretreatment of silica in the gas phase with TESPT and another organic material that enabled the formation of organic networks among the silica particles on the surface provided hydrophobated silica, which could be used to produce silica-SBR WMB, in high yields of above 99%. The amount and type of organic material incorporated into silica greatly influenced the cure characteristics, processability, and tensile and dynamic properties of the WSBR compounds. The TESPT and organic material stably incorporated into silica increased their viscosity, while the organic networks dispersed on the silica surface were highly beneficial for reducing their rolling resistance. Excessive dosing of TESTP induced low viscosity and a high modulus. The presence of connection bonds formed by the reaction of glycidyloxy groups with amine groups on the silica surface resulted in physical entanglement of the rubber chains with the bonds in the WSBR compounds, leading to low rolling resistance without sacrificing the mechanical properties. Mixing of the hydrophobated silica with a rubber solution in the liquid phase improved the silica dispersion of WSBR compounds, as confirmed by their low Payne effect, and preservation of the low modulus enhanced the degree of entanglement.

  • 브롬화 이소부틸 이소프렌 (BIIR) 고무의 점착성에 미치는 나노점토(Cloisite 20A)의 영향을 조사하였다. 고무내 나노점토의 분산성은 SEM, TEM, XRD으로 분석하였다. 나노점토 충전 및 미충전 고무의 열적안정성은 TGA로 분석하였으며, 충전고무에서 열적안정성을 보였다. 또한 나노점토를 첨가하면 보강효과에 의해 고무의 강도가 증가하였다. 나노점토 첨가로 계면간 분자확산 정도는 감소할 것으로 판단되었지만, 본 연구에서 관찰된 분자확산에 의해 형성된 계면의 두께는 분자사슬간 엄킴현상을 유발하는데 충분하여 계면점착력이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 계면점착력 증가현상은 일정한 이상 (8 phr)의 나노점토가 첨가되었을 때 나타났다. 나노점토 첨가에 따른 표면특성의 변화를 조사하기 위해 접촉각 측정을 하였는데 큰 변화는 관찰되지 않았다.

  • We have studied to apply of a quantity of SBR contained high and domestic tire cord on manufacture tire. The Physical test of compounds and products, the travelling test of manufactured tires last year had revealed a good results. 1. The physical properties indicated better values than those found in the requirments of military specification. 2. Adhesion of carcass ply cord showed a good results. 3. The physical properties between 1260 d/2 nylon cord and 840d/2 nylon cord of domestic products be showed similar values and its have a results by 2-3 times than standards.

  • In vulcanizates of NR/SBR blending compounds, the physical properties decrease as the contents of SBR increase for the most part. but the abrasives showed reverse performance. However, since these conditions enough satisfy the requirements of tread, carcass and sidewall of tire, we found it was possible to take use of the quantity of SBR contained high on tire manufacturing.

  • This paper deals with an analysis and countermeasure for improving the shock performance of laptop computers. The shock analysis is carried out by using the commercial program of LS-DYNA3D. Also the analysis is verified by the measurements from modal tests and shock tests. The available countermeasures are investigated theoretically and experimentally to find the effective methods of reducing the shock acceleration on hard disk driver during one side fall test. The hard disk drive is the most sensitive part in a laptop computer. This research shows the effects of the spring constant of rubber pad, the reinforcement of mechanical parts and the location of a hard disk driver, on the shock reduction.
