  • In Mobile IPv6 handover should be followed by RO(Route Optimization) to support direct communication between a MN(Mobile Node) and CN(Correspondent Node). For this RR MIPv6 must perform RR(Return Routability) procedure before BU(Binding Update) to CN. The Fast Handover for MIPv6(FMIPv6) also performs the RR test for MN to communicate with CN directly. However, Return Routability test has long latency resulting in handover delay in MIPv6. This paper proposes the method to reduce the handover deay by reducing RO latency in FastMobile IPv6.

  • In this paper, we compare the performance of proposals for route optimization handover, which provides optimized communication to mobile node, presented in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). For comparison, we consider the architecture with two MAGs (Mobile Access Gateways) and single LMA (Local Mobility Anchor), and analyze the signaling cost, handover latency, and packet loss. Evaluation results show that they are changed depending on the involved component, the number of route optimization messages and performance factor that each proposal targets.

  • When Mobile IPv6 is deployed in commercial network, a mobile node needs AAA services for an authentication, authorization and accounting. AAA and Mobile IPv6 are protocols which are operated independently. Then schemes which merge these protocols have been emerged. These schemes can enable a mobile node to establish a security association between the mobile node and a home agent and to perform a binding update for the home agent using AAA authentication request. But these schemes introduce many signal messages and long handover latency during the handover, since Route Optimization mode for Mobile Ipv6 is performed using Return Routability procedure. To solve this problem, we propose a scheme for Route Optimization mode that the home agent performs the binding update for a correspondent node via the AAA infrastructure between the home agent and the correspondent node instead of Return Routability procedure. For performance evaluation, we analyze signal message transmission costs and handover latencies during handover. We show performance improvement of the proposed scheme which reduces handover latency as 61% compared with the existing scheme.

  • The Proxy Mobile IPv6 is a network-based localized mobility management protocol. In the PMIPv6, Mobile Nodes are topologically anchored at a Local Mobility Anchor, which forwards all data packets for registered Mobile Nodes. Since all data packets destined for the Mobile Nodes a1ways traverse the Mobile Nodes's Local Mobility Anchor, the LMA might be bottleneck and the end-to-end de1ay are increased. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed an enhanced Route Optimization scheme in Multiple Local Mobility Anchors environment. In order to rapid1y detect Route Optimization, we designed Domain Information Table in Mobility Access Gateway. Furthermore, we use Correspondent Binding Cache in Local Mobility Anchor to maintain Route Optimization information during Mobile Nodes's handover. To solve packet loss and reodering problems during handover, we propose a new buffering and forwarding scheme.

  • PMIPv6 is a network-based mobility support scheme, proposed and standardized by NetLMM WG of IETF. It is proposed to solve problems of conventional mobility schemes, and to improve inefficiency of those. The standard document describes network components and detailed procedures to provide mobility to MN. But it describes only a handover procedure between MAGs, not between LMAs. In order to support seamless connectivity of MN efficiently, a handover procedure between LMAs is necessary. The proposed scheme in this paper utilizes a route optimization procedure to prevent inefficiency of inter-LMA tunneling scheme. At the same time, the proposed scheme utilizes a pre-authentication scheme to reduce handover latency. According to the result of performance evaluations, the proposed scheme greatly reduces handover latency, compared to conventional mobility support schemes.

  • In the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), the existing host-based handover scheme tends to induce large handover delays and packet loss rates. To deal with this problem, we are proposing a network-based handover scheme for HIP in the mobile networks, in which the access routers of the mobile node will establish a handover tunnel and will perform the route optimization for data transmission. We also discuss how to extend the HIP Update message to use the proposed handover scheme. From ns-2 simulations, we can see that the proposed handover scheme can significantly reduce the handover delay and packet losses during handover, as compared to the existing handover schemes.

  • In the mobile cloud computing, the mobile node should request and receive the services while being connected. In PMIPv6, all packets sent by mobile nodes or correspondent nodes are transferred through the local mobility anchor. This unnecessary detour still results in high delivery latency and significant processing cost. Several PMIPv6 route optimization schemes have been proposed to solve this issue. However, they also suffer from the high signaling costs and handover latency when determining the optimized path. We propose the route optimization handover scheme which adopts the prediction algorithm in PFMIPv6. In the proposed scheme, the new mobile access gateway establishes the bi-directional tunnel with the correspondent node's MAG using the context message when the mobile node's handover is imminent. This tunnel may eliminate the need of separate route optimization procedure. Hence, the proposed scheme can reduce the signaling cost than other conventional schemes do. Analytical performance evaluation is preformed to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The result shows that our scheme is more effective than other schemes.

  • Mobility management is one of the most important research issues in 6LoWPAN, Since the IP-WSN application domain is expanded to real-time applications such as healthcare and surveillance systems, a fast and seamless handover becomes an important criterion in 6LoWPAN. However, a draft of IETF 6LoWPAN WG for mobility support does not decrease handover delay. Although LoWMob supports a fast intra-PAN handover. it can be supported when the infrastructure node has the location information of the other nodes in the mobile node's moving direction. In this paper, we propose a fast and seamless mobility protocol to support intra-PAN handover, named intra-MARIO. In intra-MARIO, a parent node of the mobile node preconfigures its handover to the PAN when the parent node detects its movement, thereby reducing the handover delay. Since intra-MARIO also supports route optimization, the mobile node can communicate with its corresponding nodes through the optimal route. In this paper, we analysis the signaling cost and evaluates that the handover can be completed in 20ms by simulation.
