Visualizing sphere-contacting areas on automobile parts for ECE inspection

  • To satisfy safety regulations of Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the surface regions of automobile parts must have a sufficient degree of roundness if there is any chance that they could contact a sphere of 50.0 mm radius (exterior parts) or 82.5 mm radius (interior parts). In this paper, a new offset-based method is developed to automatically detect the possible sphere-contacting shape of such parts. A polyhedral model that precisely approximates the part shape is given as input, and the offset shape of the model is obtained as the Boolean union of the expanded shapes of all surface triangles. We adopt a triple-dexel representation of the 3D model to enable stable and precise Boolean union computations. To accelerate the dexel operations in these Boolean computations, a new parallel processing method with a pseudo-list structure and axis-aligned bounding box is developed. The possible sphere-contacting shape of the part surface is then extracted from the offset shape as a set of points or a set of polygons.

  • The rotation of a spindle unit must be accurate for high-quality machining and to improve the quality of the machine tools. Therefore, the proper measurement of the rotation accuracy and ensuring a proper analysis are very important. Separate processes are necessary because spindle errors and roundness errors associated with the test balls can both factor into the measured rotation error values. We used three methods to discern test ball errors and analyzed which could be deemed as the most proper technique in a test of the rotation accuracy of the main spindle of a machine tool.

  • In this study, work materials of the ree form surface shape was machined by ball end mill cutter according to the change of cutting location and depth, and the acquired data of cutting force, tool deflection and shape accuracy were analyzed. Cutting force results were obtained with tool dynamometer and tool deflection values were measured by a couple of eddy-current sensors. Shape accuracy was obtained by roundness tester and surface profile measuring machine. As inclination angle was decreased, cutting force was increased. Cutting force showed large value at $105^{\circ}$ and $150^{\circ}$. Tool deflection was less at down milling than at up milling, decreased at 45$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$, and shown large tool deflection at $150^{\circ}$. Roughness values were found to be bad in the inside of surface shape tool deflection. Surface accuracy was obtained better precision in down milling than in up milling.

  • This paper described on the effect of residual stocks in internal grinding of tungsten carbide materials in order to improve the grinding efficiency as well as grinding accuracy. Though the fundamental investigation is carried out for tungsten carbide materials using electroplated diamond wheel, the residual stock after grinding process is effective to the grinding effciiency. The obtained results are as follows: (1) Under the depth of cut(t) is constant and decreasing the workpiece velocity(Vw), the resiudal stock after grinding is increased, but the difference is little less than the difference by table speed. (2) Increasing the wheel velocity, the residual stock after grinding is decreased. Therefore in order to minimize the residual stock, the wheel velocity should be increased as far as possible. (3) The surface foughness and out-of roundness increased with depth of cut and table speed, and decreased with wheel velocity, but it may as well adopt as much as polssible under the dimensional tolerance which is required for high efficiency grinding. (4) In order to remove residual stock, the spark-out grinding shoule be done, and it also can be improved about 20 .approx. 25% throughout spark-out grinding, and the number of optimal spark-out times were within 10 times.

Anatomy of the Alar Lobule in Korean Nose (한국인 콧방울의 해부)

  • This study is to provide details of the unique anatomical features on the alar lobule region in Korean nose. We hypothesized that the anatomy of this area differs according to the shape of the alar lobule. Based on the prominence and roundness of alar lobules, they were classified into horizontal and vertical types. A total of 20 fresh cadaver noses(10 for each type) were dissected. The anatomical differences between the horizontal and vertical types were investigated by gross and histologic studies. The alar lobule is composed of three layers, i.e., external skin, muscle, and vestibular skin. Profound differences between the two alar lobule types were evident in terms of the volume of the dilator naris anterior muscle, the insertion of the dilator naris posterior muscle, and the thickness of the external skin at the lateral end of the alar circumference. The horizontal type has a greater volume of dilator naris anterior muscle, an additional insertion of the dilator naris posterior muscle, and thicker external skin at the lateral end of the alar circumference than the vertical type. The Korean nose differs anatomically and morphologically from the Caucasian nose. This study shows that there are anatomic differences between the horizontal and vertical types of alar lobules in Korean nose.

  • To establish the national standard of capacitance, four main electrodes of the cross capacitor which were evaluated to linearity and roundness less the $\pm 1 \mu m$ respectively have to be adjusted symmetrically in an inner cylinder. Four LM shafts with diameter of 5 mm were installed between main electrodes of the cross capacitor, and the electrodes were adjusted, as the first step, by means of the measured capacitance. In the second step, the symmetrical adjustment up to $\pm 1.2\mu m$ was performed by using a ball sensor, ball-type movable sensor, non-contacting capacitive sensor and upper guard sensor which were developed in this project.

  • This paper proposed on the effective cutting conditions of cage motor rotor by turning. If you want to introduce automatic manufacturing system into the cutting process of cage motor rotor, the selections of effective cutting conditions are necessary. The cutting process of cage motor rotor requires the precision and the out of roundness of cage motor rotor. The surface roughness of cutting face. it is very important factor with effect on the magnetic flux density of cage motor rotor. The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of cutting condition. upon adapting this results, we will improve the production rate in the cutting process of cage motor rotor. As a result, the selection of cutting conditions are important factors to production rate. And these are chosen by the investigations of cutting characters and surface roughness. The experimental result, showed that the increase of cutting speed caused the decrease of cutting force and the high surface integrity. The increase of feed rate and increase of depth of cut caused the increase of cutting force and surface roughness. Thus, the effective cutting conditions of cage motor rotor by turing are cutting speed 291m/min, feed rate 0.10mm/rev, depth of cut 0.05mm.

DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION OF DEFECTS ON APPLE USING MACHINE VISION

  • This study was carried out to develop tools to detect defects of apple using machine vision. For the purpose, 6 kinds of frame for color images, R, G, B, h, S, and I frame, and a frame for near infra-red images (NIR frame) were tested first to select one which is useful to segment defect areas from apple images. After then, several methods to classify kind of defect for the segmented defect areas were developed and tested. Five kinds of apple defect -bruise , decay ,fleck worm hole and scar were investigated . The results are as follows: NIR frame was selected as the best one among the 7 kinds of image frame, and R, G and I frames showed favourable result to segment areas of apple defect. Various features of the segmented defect areas were measured to classify the defect areas. Eight kids of feature of the areas-size, roundness, axes length ratio, mean and variance of pixel values, variance of real part of spectrum, mean and variance of power spectrum resulted from spacial ourier transform were observed for the segmented defect areas in the selected 4 frames. then procedures to classify defects using the features were developed for the 4 frames and tested with 75-113 defects on apples. The test resulted that NIR and I frames showed high accuracies to classify the kind of defect as 77% and 76% , respectively.

Crack Detection and Sorting of Eggs by Image Processing (영상처리에 의한 계란의 파란 검출 및 선별)

  • A computer vision system was built to generate images of a single, stationary egg. This system includes a CGD camera, a frame grabber, and incandescent back lighting system. Image processing algorithms were developed to inspect egg shell and to sort eggs. Those values of both gray level and area of dark spots in the egg image were used as criteria to detect holes in egg and those values of both area and roundness of dark spots in the egg image were used to detect cracks in egg. For a sample of 300 eggs, this system was able to correctly analyze an egg for the presence of a defect 97.5% of the time. The weights of eggs were found to be linear to both the projected area and the perimeter of eggs viewed from above. Those two values were used as criteria to sort eggs. The coefficients of determination(r$^2$) for the regression equations between weights and those two values were 0.967 and 0.972 in the two sets of experiment. Accuracies in grading were found to be 95.6% and 96.7% as compared with results from sizing by electronic weight scale.
