  • In this study, NIMAX material has been processed using the three-dimensional measuring instrument and white light interferometer. they were tested to roundness and surface roughness and results are as follows: As for a cutting characteristic, it indicated that F4 showed a lower result than 2F showed due to the high hardness of the material and showed a good result when spindle rotation speed and tool feed were low. As for the measurement of roundness through 3-Dimensional measuring machine, it indicated that 4F showed a good result like the condition of cutting component and that roundness showed a good result when spindle rotation speed of 1,700 rpm and tool feed speed of 85 mm/min were applied. As for the surface roughness of processing surface, Surface roughness showed better 4F than 2F and conditions of spindle rotation speed 1,700 rpm, tool feed rate 55 mm/min showed good results in the Ra $0.4025{\mu}m$.

  • The DC motor in a vehicle may cause noise and vibration because of high speed revolution, which can make a driver feel uncomfortable. There have been various studies attempting to solve these problems, focusing mostly on the causes of and ways to reduce noise and vibration. It is suggested that the noise in a DC motor may be primarily due to interaction between a brush and a commutator. Brush noise, the most common noise in a DC motor, results from a brush bounced from the surface of the commutator, fluctuation of the friction between the brush and the commutator, and the impact on the brush when passing over slots of the commutator. Based on the noise test, one of the most important design parameters was shown to be the roundness of the commutator. As the DC motor is used, the roundness of the commutator gets bigger with subsequent increase of the level of brush noise and vibration. There must be a threshold in order to prevent the brush noise from getting worse. Using the method of CAE is more efficient than the real test for purposes of looking for various design parameters to maintain the roundness of the commutator. In this study, the design process to reduce the brush noise is presented with the use of a computer model. The design parameters to reduce the brush noise and vibration are proposed by using FEM. The design parameters are used to reduce the noise and vibration of a DC motor and it is verified with the test results on a fan DC motor in a vehicle. This method may be applicable to various DC motor.

  • Textural analysis of gravels of raised beach (old beach) in the Weaver Peninsula, King George Island, Antarctica has been carried out as a first part study among 20 other sites surveyed in the Weaver Peninsula and Barton Peninsula, King George Island. The raised beach described as WP-5 in this paper is 3.95 m higher than the present beach in elevation. And it is described as old beach. The beach shows typical subenvironment, that is, beach berm and beach face. Mean size, mean roundness and mean sphericity of gravels from beach berm are -4.10ø, 0.44 and 0.66 respectively. However, mean size, mean roundness and mean sphericity from beach face are -4.23ø, 0.41 and 0.67 respectively. In particular, it seems to be worthy to note the differences of textural parameters between Antarctic glacio-marine beach gravels and temperate and normal marine beach gravels. Under such conception the present study wishes to show only textural parameters, i.e., size, roundness, sphericity and shape obtained from the analysis of Antarctic glacio-marine beach gravels.

  • One of the main features of Drillship or FPSO is a moonpool structure. The moonpool structures have various accuracy tolerances according to their functions and targets. This study is mainly interested in roundness of a circular moonpool structure in FPSO. Because this structure needs abrasion-resistance at which bearing of machine touches on inner wall of moonpool, we should do over-lay welding widely and deeply by using Inconel weld material. But a general over-lay can cause a severe distortion at ship block structure. If we can analyze the roundness by thermal distortion under Inconel over-lay, we can establish a special erection policy by the results. In this study, we designed stress-strain curve for strain-boundary condition analysis by an elasto-plastic material property. The results made us to decide an appropriate ship-block size and policy of crane manipulation will follow for its capacity. If a structure that needs over-lay is not large, solid elements also are not a bad choice for FEM modeling. Therefore we also developed a standard of using strain-boundary method that shell elements are used as over-lay on solid element modeling.

  • The wear debris is fall off the moving surfaces in oil-lubricated systems and its morphology is directly related to the damage and failure to the interacting surfaces. The morphology of the wear particles are therefore directly indicative of wear processes occurring in tribological system. The computer image processing and artificial neural network was applied to shape study and identify wear debris generated from the lubricated moving system. In order to describe the characteristics of various wear particles, four representative parameter (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) from computer image analysis for groups of randomly sampled wear particles, are used as inputs to the network and learned the friction condition of five values (material 3, applied load 1, sliding distance 1). It is shown that identification results depend on the ranges of these shape parameters learned. The three kinds of the wear debris had a different pattern characteristics and recognized the friction condition and materials very well by neural network. We discuss how these approach can be applied to condition diagnosis of the oil-lubricated tribological system.

  • There have been many studies on red tide due to increasing damage from red tide on fishing and aquaculture industry. However, internal study of automatic red tide image classification is not enough. Recognition of red tide algae is difficult because they do not have matching center features for recognizing algae image object. Previously studies used a few type of red tide algae for image classification. In this paper, we proposed the red tide image recognition method using semantic features of NMF and roundness of image objects.
