  • For SUAV is required to have the capacity of VTOL and fast forward flight, the SUAV development program has decided to adopt the tiltrotor mechanism which includes helicopter and turboprop mechanisms. From the engine point of view, the key engine parameters such as engine operating mechanism, engine control scheme, the dynamics characteristic of power train, engine intake/exhaust concept, and engine installation requirements should fulfill the requirements of the two different mechanisms, helicopter and turboprop. And for the maximum efficiency of the rotor, rotational speed for the two modes are 20% different, the power train shall find a way to make it so. Meeting these specific requirements for the tiltrotor mechanism, this research begins with a conventional OTS(off-the-shelf) turboshaft engine survey and minimizes engine modification to develop an economical propulsion system. The engine technical review has been performed on the basis of those requirements and capabilities.

  • This paper is proposed fuzzy neural network(FNN) and artificial neural network(ANN) based on the vector controlled induction motor drive system. The hybrid combination of fuzzy control and neural network will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also, this paper is proposed control and estimation of speed of induction motor using fuzzy and neural network. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The back propagation mechanism is easy to derive and the estimated speed tracks precisely the actual motor speed. This paper is proposed the experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the new method.

  • In this paper, a speed sensorless control for an ultrasonic motor (USM) using a neural network (NN) is presented. In the proposed method, rotor speed is estimated by a three-layer NN which adapts nonlinearities associated with load torque and motor temperature into control. The intrinsic properties of a USM, such as high torque for low speeds, high static torque, compact size, etc., offer great advantages for industrial applications. However, the speed property of a USM has strong nonlinear properties associated with motor temperature and load torque, which make accurate speed control difficult. These properties are considered in designing a control method through the application of mathematical models. In these strategies, a detailed speed model of the USM is required which makes actual applications impractical. In the proposed method, a three-layer NN estimates the speed of the USM from the drive frequency, the root mean square value of input voltage and the surface temperature of the USM, where no mechanical speed sensor is needed. The NN speed based estimator enables inclusion of variations in driving conditions due to input signals of the NN involved during the driving state of the USM. The disuse of sensors offers many advantages on both the cost and maintenance front. Moreover, the model free sensorless control method offers practical controller construction within a small number of parameters. To validate the proposed speed sensorless control method for a USM, experiments have been executed under several conditions.

  • Considering the wind power system and the rotor blades which are composed of much technology, the wind power blade would be the most dangerous part because it revolves at high speed and weighs about dozens of tons, if the accident happens. Therefore, the light weight composite materials have been replacing as substitutional materials. The object of this study is to examine the delamination and damage for CFRP/GFRP hybrid composite that is used for strength improvement of a wind power blade. The influence of the initial crack length and fiber orientation for the interlaminar delamination was exposed for the blade safety. Plain woven CFRP instead of GFRP was inserted into the layer of the box spar for improving the strength and blade life. DCB(Double Cantilever Beam) specimen was used for evaluating fracture toughness and damage evaluation of interlaminar delamination. The material used in the experiment is a commercial material known as CF 3327 EPC in plain woven carbon prepreg(Hankuk Carbon Co.) and UD glass fiber prepreg(Hyundai Fiber Co.). From the results, crack growth rate is not so different according to the variation of the initial crack length. Mode I interlamainar fracture toughness of fiber direction $0^{\circ}$ is higher than that of $45^{\circ}$. Interlaminar fracture has an effect on fiber direction and K decreased with lower value according to increasing initial crack length. Also energy release rate fracture toughness was evaluated because CFRP/GFRP hybrid composite with a different thickness is under the mixed mode loading condition. The interlaminar fracture was almost governed by mode I fracture even though the mixed mode.

  • When there is a spray flow such as from a pesticide nozzle, winds affect the droplet flow of a rotary-wing drone accompanied by a strong wake, with a severe oscillation. Especially, during forwarding flights or when winds come from the side, compare to a simple hovering flight as the droplet is in the effect of aerodynamic drag force, the effect of spraying region becomes even larger. For this reason, the spraying of pesticides using drones may cause a greater risk of scattering or a difference in droplet dispersion between locations, resulting in a decrease in efficiency. Therefore, through proper numerical modeling and its applied simulation, an indication tool is required applicable for the various flight and atmospheric conditions. In this research, we completed both experiment and numerical analysis for the strong downwash from the rotor and flight velocity of the drone by comparing the probability density function of droplet distribution to build a spraying system that can improve the efficiency when spraying droplets in the pesticide spray drone.

  • This paper describes a multi-physics analysis of a high resolution winding type resolver and rotary transformer using FEM (Finite Element Method). The rotary transformer boosts the input voltage to a high voltage which can be input into the rotor windings of the resolver. Through multi-physics models of the transformer and resolver, the characteristics of the output signals for the resolver system with high resolution can be derived. Moreover, the circuit model of the interface part between the transformer and resolver should be considered, because of the calculation of the input current to the resolver. The winding type resolver is composed of 32x and 1x stator windings for high resolution. Then, the output signals of the stator windings, which make sinusoidal SIN and COS waves with a $90^{\circ}$ phase difference, are verified.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the axial magnetic flux measurement could be used as a tool of the condition monitoring system for the induction motor and to develope the diagnostic algerian for the electric motors. The magnetic leakage flux signal is captured by the flux coil located at the end of motor without the disturbance of the operation. And the signal is analyzed both time and frequency bases to detect the failure of the motor. Specific signature can be described in time and frequency domain for each faults of the motor. The spectrum of the signal was found more useful for the monitoring purpose. The supply voltage imbalance and tin to turn failure of the stator winding could be detected by analysing the specific sidebands of the axial flux and sideband of the rotor bar pass frequency with the high resolution spectrum. The goal of this study verity that the axial flux measurement for the induction motor is a powerful tool for the diagnostic method and develope the algorithm to detect the fault.

  • This study deals with structural analysis and testing under loading conditions calculated by computational fluid dynamics for a small composite blade that is utilized in a dual rotor wind turbine system. First, the aerodynamic forces were analyzed at the rated and cutout wind speed to identify the bending moment distribution along the blade length in previous research. Then, full-scale structural tests were conducted according to IEC 61400-2 to evaluate the structural integrity of the composite blade. These results were compared with finite element analysis to identify the accuracy of the structural analysis. Based on these results, it was revealed that the existing blade has a very high safety margin. Then, the layup of the composite blade was redesigned and analyzed using finite element analysis to achieve structural integrity and economic efficiency.

  • Induction motors are critical components in industrial process. So there are many research in the condition based maintenance, online monitoring system, and fault detection. This paper presents a scheme on the detection and diagnosis of the three-phase squirrel induction motor under unbalanced voltage, broken rotor bar, and a combination of these two faults. Actually one fault happen in operation, it influence other component in motor or cause another faults. Accordingly it is useful to diagnose and detect a combination fault in induction motor as well as each fault. The proposed fault detection and diagnosis algorithm is based on the stator currents from the squirrel induction motor and simulated with the aid of Matlab Simulink.
