  • This paper introduces an enhanced condition monitoring and diagnosis system recently developed for rotating machinery. In the system, the data aquisition/monitoring signal processing, machine condition classifier, case-based reasoning and demonstration modules are effectively integrated with user-friendliness so that machine operators can easily monitor and diagnose the status of rotating machinery in operation. Some of the new features include the directional spectrum, case-based reasoning and neural network techniques. And the demonstrator modules for fault diagnosis of a Bear driving system and for basic understanding of the rotor dynamics are provided to help the potential users better understand the system.

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of airfoil on the optimum flap height using NACA0015 Wells turbine. The five double flaps which have 0.5% chord height difference were selected. A Wavier-Stokes code, CFX-TASCflow, was used to calculate the flow field of the Wells turbine. The basic feature of the Wells turbine is that even though the cyclic airflow produces oscillating axial forces on the airfoil blades, the tangential force on the rotor is always in the same direction. Geometry used to define the 3-D numerical grid is based upon that of an experimental test rig. This paper tries to analyze the optimum double flap of Wells turbine with the numerical analysis.

  • In this paper, as a part of the method improving stability, the load-flow calculation in D.C. power system and the models for stability analysis are studied with A.C-D.C. interconnected power systems transmission performed. Moreover, the theory is established in relation to each control method of D.C. power systems. Then the stability of A.C-D.C.interconnected power systems is compared and considered by the way of dividing the operating control method of the rectifier inverter converter into ACR-AVR, APR-A.gamma.R, A.alpha.R-ACR. The dynamics characteristic of terminal voltage, frequency, active-reactive power and rotor angle of the generator with disturbances and load fluctuations is considered. In addition, the characteristic of direct voltage, direct current, power and control systems. From this the comparative analysis of the direct current control method, the possibility of the stability analysis of A.C.-D.C. interconnected power system is considered. • The servo system requires faster and more accurate dynamic responses. A new technique for the position control of DC servo motors is presented in this paper. The proposed technique employs a Self Tuning Regulator Proportional Integral Derivative(STR PID) position control systems in order to improve the dynamic performance of a DC servo motor. Recursive -least -squares (RLS) method is used in order to estimate the STR PID coefficients, $K_P$, $K_I$, and $K_D$. In order to consider dynamics such as voltage, angular velocity, and rotor angle, the above method was applied position control system.

  • This paper presents a robustly adaptive flux observer for speed-sensorless induction motor control. The proposed approach employs additional robustifying signals to cope with the parametric uncertainties instead of designing an estimator, which has been normally used in power electronic drives. For that, the sliding-mode like adaptive controls are designed and their gain parameters are determined so that the observer dynamics are stable in the sense of Lyapunov, and furthermore they can guarantee the robustness against parametric uncertainties in induction motor systems. Estimated rotor speed is to be used to generate feedback control signal for the speed sensorless vector control system. To show the validity and efficiency of the proposed system, simulation results are presented.

  • A rotating rigid disk, attached on a flexible shaft or supported by a torsional spring, experiences precessional whirling due to gyroscopic moment loading. It is well known in rotor dynamics area that, as the rotational speed increases, the precessional mode of the rotating rigid disk starts splitting into two: forward and backward precessional modes. On the other hand, it is also well known in disk vibration area that a rotating flexible disk also shows another kind of mode splitting phenomenon due to the rotation, resulting in forward and backward traveling waves. When rotating multiple flexible disks are coupled in vibration with the supporting Flexible shaft, the associated mode splitting should be compatible with the two seemingly different vibration analysis methods. This paper investigates the possibility of fusing the precessional and traveling wave mode splittings so that the bending coupled disk vibrations in HDD spindle systems can be better understood.

  • Momentum flywheels are widely applied for the generation of small and precise torque for the attitude control and inertial stabilization of satellites and space stations. Due to its inherited system nonlinearity, the tracking performance of the flywheel torque/speed in dynamic/plug braking operations is limited when a conventional controller is employed. To take advantage of the well-separated two-time-scale quantities of a flywheel driving system, the singular perturbation technique is adopted to improve the torque tracking performance. In addition, the composite control law, which combines slow- and fast- dynamic portions, is derived for flywheel driving systems. Furthermore, a novel control strategy for plug braking dynamics, which considers couplings between the Buck converter and the three-phase inverter load, is designed with easy implementation. Finally, experimental results are presented to demonstrate the correctness of the analysis and the superiority of the proposed methods.
