  • This paper investigates optimum air-gap flux distribution with third harmonic rotor flux orientation adjustment for five-phase induction motor. The technique of objective is to generate a nearly rectangular air-gap flux, and it improves iron utilization under variation loading conditions. The proportional relations between third harmonic and fundamental plane currents is usually adopted in the conventional method. However, misalignment between fundamental and third harmonic component occurs with variation loading. The iron of stator teeth is saturated due to this misalignment. This problem is solved by third harmonic rotor flux orientation adjustment simultaneously, and direction and amplitude are changed with mechanical load variation. The proposed method ensures that the air-gap flux density is near rectangular for a maximum value from no load to rated load. It is confirmed that the proposed method guarantees complete both planes decoupling with third harmonic flux orientation adjustment. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated experimentally.

  • This paper describes the effects of rotor eccentricity in squirrel cage induction machines. Asymmetric electro-magnetic force caused by the frictional worn bearing, rotor misalignment and unbalanced rotor etc. generates an asymmetrical operation, vibration and electro-magnetic noise. The need for detection of these rotor eccentricities has pushed the development of monitoring methods with increasing sensitivity and noise immunity. In this paper, we focus on investigating the asymmetrical operation considering of unbalanced magnetic pull in squirrel-cage induction motor with 380 [V], 7.5 [kW], 4P, 1,768 [rpm]. The effects of the non-symmetric rotor and magnetic force are simulated by finite element method (FEM) and tested using search coils for measuring the actual air-gap flux.

  • The rotor time constant variation has a large effect on the vector controlled system of induction motor. In this paper, the algorithm which compensate the misalignment of the rotor flux vector as an error caused by incorrect rotor time constant are presented. The simulations show that the proposed algorithm suitably compensates the rotor time constant.

  • Large dynamic loads act on the rotor in rotary compressors. There are unbalance forces due to eccentric parts and gas forces induced by the pressure difference between compression and suction gases. Rotor-journal bearing system is nonlinear since the stiffness and damping coefficients of the lubricating oil film are not constant in the bearings. The system is considered as a coupled problem of flexible rotor and the journal bearings. Bearing reaction force is calculated from pressure of oil film using Reynolds equations in journal bearings. Pressure distribution in journal bearing is analyzed by finite difference method. The dynamic response of rotor and bearing characteristic are discussed when rotary compressor has a relative misalignment.

  • Rubbing and misalignment are the most usual faults that occurs in rotating machinery and with them severe effect on power plant availability. Especially blade rubbing is hard to detect on FFT spectrum using the vibration signal. In this paper, the possibility of feature analysis of vibration signal is confirmed under blade rubbing and misalignment condition. And the lab-scale rotor test device provides the blade rubbing and shaft misalignment modes. Feature selection based on GA (genetic algorithm) is processed by the extracted feature of the time domain. Then, classification of the features is analyzed by using SVM (support vector machine) which is one of the machine learning algorithm. The results of features selection based on GA compared with those based on PCA (principal component analysis). According to the results, the possibility of feature analysis is confirmed. Therefore, blade rubbing and shaft misalignment can be diagnosed by feature of vibration signal.

The need for detection of these rotor eccentricities has pushed the development of monitoring methods with increasing sensitivity and noise immunity. This paper is proposed the analysis method of the squirrel-cage induction motor driven by IGBT inverter using finite element method (FEM) and subroutine. The effect of the unbalanced magnetic pull in the inverter-fed induction motor which is in asymmetrical whirling motion is presented. The analysis results of rotor eccentricity could compare with motors which have been made normal air-gap motor and irregular air-gap motor and verify reliability. The simulation and experiment results can be useful for on-line faults detection monitoring system of induction motors.

  • The misalignment state causes some problems in operating. These problems such as vibration, noise, make the reduce wear, as well as, a stress concentration on the coupling which is the very weakness point at the morter. In order to align the shaft, the dialgage method has used as a means of solution until now. The method using a dialgage require a great deal of labour and money due to making by hand, the accurate alignment is not up to the expectation. For aligning the shaft, all the rotor must come to accord. Also, the dialgage method cannot be compared with straingage measurement method, from the viewpoint, which can gage in short time.

  • The vibration of rotor systems is caused by various factors, such as misalignment, unbalance, gear meshing, error of assembly, etc. Modal test and TDA/ODS analysis were done. The dynamic analysis of the armature was done with SAMCEF which is a commercial software for finite element and kinematic analysis. The transient response of the armature is calculated by the SAMCEF with the consideration of magnetic force and bearing stiffness, which are the essential elements for the design of high speed cutter. Main frequency of the vibration is due to the unbalance of the armature. The FEM analysis model considering unbalance and the high speed cutter have same vibration properties. The vibration sources of the high speed cutter is proved to be unbalance.
