The steady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional numerical analysis was performed to investigate the flow fields around the seabed tiller used for soil improvement in coastal fisheries and the pulling force and buoyancy generated by tiller operation. The turbulence model used in this study is a realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$. As a results, at a stationary current or a current speed of 1.2 knots, where rotor rotates in a clockwise direction, a typical vortex pair appears near the tip of the rotor except for the edge, and the strength of the vortex pair increases with the number of revolutions of the rotor. The pulling force of the tiller rotating in the counterclockwise direction increases with the number of revolutions. Also, when the current flows at 1.2 knots and the rotor rotates clockwise, the pulling force of the tiller acts on the upstream side irrespective of the number of rotations of the rotor, so that no force is applied. The buoyancy of the tiller acts on the seawater surface if the flow direction inside the rotor is the same as the direction of rotation of the rotor, regardless of the current velocity, otherwise it acts on the seabed.

This present paper leads to investigation of blade-fluid interactions of cambered blade H-Darrieus rotor having EN0005 airfoil blades using comprehensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to understand its performance in low wind streams. For several blade azimuthal angle positions, the effects of three different low wind speeds are studied regarding their influence on the blade-fluid interactions of the EN0005 blade rotor. In the prevailing studies by various researchers, such CFD analysis of H-Darrieus rotors are very less, hence it is needed to improve their steady-state performance in low wind velocities. Such a study is also important to obtain important performance insights of such thin cambered blade rotor in its complete rotational cycle. It has been seen that the vortex generated at the suction side of the EN0005 blade rolls back to its leading edge due to the camber of the blade and thus a peak velocity occurs near to the nose position of this blade at its leading edge, which leads to peak performance of this rotor. Again, in the returning phase of the blade, a secondary recirculating vortex is generated that acts on the pressure side of EN0005 blade rotor that increases the performance of this cambered EN0005 blade rotor in its downstream position as well. Here, the aerodynamic performances have been compared considering Standard k-ε and SST k-ω models to check the better suited turbulence model for the cambered EN0005 blade H-Darrieus rotor in low tip speed ratios.

Rotor system is a very important part which produce lift, thrust and control force in helicopter. Component of rotor system must have structural integrity for applied load. The estimation of structural integrity is regarded greatly as important in aerospace field. In this study, the process of structural analysis performed for bearingless main rotor system of helicopter. The composite flexbeam and torque tube of bearingless main rotor are very thick, so 3D layered soild elements of MSC.PATRAN were used to get the finite element analysis results. To estimate structural integrity, non-linear static analysis considering geometric non-linearity is performed. In addition, detailed finete element analysis and non-linear static analysis are performed to consider the stress concentration for fitting effect and contact surface. The estimation process of structural integrity for bearingless main rotor system of helicopter may help the design.
The finite element analysis for rotor bearing systems has been an essential tool for design, identification, and diagnosis of rotating machinery. Among others, the unbalance response analysis is fundamental in the vibration analysis of rotor bearing systems because rotating unbalance is recognized as a common sourve of vibration in rotating machinery. However there still remains a problem in the aspect of computational efficiency for unbalance response analysis of large rotor bearing systems. Gyroscopic terms and local bearing parameters in rotor bearing systems often make matters worse in unbalance response computation due to the complicated dynamic properties such as rotational speed dependency and/or anisotropy. The present paper proposes an efficient method for unbalance responses of multi-span rotor bearing systems. An improved substructure synthesis scheme is introduced which makes it possible to compute unbalance responses of the system by coupling unbalance responses of substructures that are of self adjoint problem with small order matrices. The present paper also suggests a scheme to easily deal with gyroscopic tems and local, coupling or bearing parameters. The proposed method causes no errors even though the computational effort is reduced drastically. The present method is demonstrated through three test examples.

This paper presents a conceptual design and analysis for a 1-kW-class high-temperature superconducting rotating machine (HTSRM) rotor. The designed prototype is a small-scale integration system of a HTSRM and a HTS contactless rotary excitation device (CRED). Technically, CRED and HTSRM are connected in the same shaft, and it effectively charges the HTS coils of the rotor field winding by pumping fluxes via a non-contact method. HTS coils in rotor pole body and toroidal HTS wire in CRED rotor are cooled and operated by liquid nitrogen in cryogen tank located in inner-most of rotor. Therefore, it is crucial to securely maintain the thermal stability of cryogenic environment inside rotor. Especially, we critically consider not only on mechanical characteristics of the rotor but also on cryogenic thermal characteristics. In this paper, we conduct two main tasks covering optimizing a conceptual design and performing operational characteristics. First, rotor parameters are conceptually designed by analytical design codes. These parameters consider to mechanical and thermal performances such as mechanical strength, mechanical rigidity, and thermal heat losses of the rotor. Second, mechanical and thermal characteristics of rotor for 1-kW-class HTSRM are analyzed to verify the feasible operation conditions. Hence, three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA) method is used to perform these analyses in ANSYS-Workbench platform.

Large dynamic loads act on the rotor in rotary compressors. There are unbalance forces due to eccentric rotation parts and gas forces induced by the pressure difference between compression and suction gases. Rotor-journal bearing system is nonlinear since the stiffness and damping coef-ficients of the lubrication oil film are not constant in the bearings. in this paper the program for predicting the behaviors of rotor-journal bearing system of rotary compressor is developed. Finite element modeling is used to analyze the flexible rotor. The numerical results are compared with experimental results.
This paper represents that parts of a large generator operating in 1000 MW are affected by centrifugal forces due to high-speed rotation in 3600 rpm and 3D FEM Analyses are required to obtained the structural reliability of the generator. From these results, one would know the weakest locations and the stress distributions. The fatigue life is calculated in order to grasp the remaining life of generator. 2D and 3D analyses are performed to calculate stresses of the generator rotor and the retaining ring. From 2D results, we find the SCF at the slot and sub-slot of the rotor. 3D analysis is applied at the end part of generator rotor, which represents complex geometry, and rotor and retaining ring shrink thermally. With these results, designers of rotor and retaining ring can compare with the results of design code and verify the stress distributions of generator rotor and retaining ring, and then calculate the remaining life from the low-cycle fatigue data.

A rotor run-up or run-down process provide more useful information for modal analysis than normal operation conditions. A traditional difficulty associated with rotor run-up or run-down analysis is the non-stationary nature of vibration data. This paper compares Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and the wavelets analysis in these non-stationary signal analyses. An Adaptive Wavelet Analysis (AWT) is proposed to analyze these signals. Although simulations and experiments in a simple rotor-bearing system show that both STFT and AWT can be used to analyze non-stationary vibration signals in rotor dynamics, proposed AWT provides better results than STFT analysis. From the amplitude-frequency curve obtained by AWT, the modal frequency and damping ratio are calculated. This paper also analyzes the characteristics of signals when the shaft touches the outer hoop in a run-up process. The AWT can give a good result in this complex dynamic analysis of the touching process.

Rotor grip is used as a component of rotor system in unmanned helicopter. Instead of usual machining, hot forging process has been considered to improve its proof stress against repeated loading conditions and crash in the farm-field. Die design and forming analysis have been performed according to the conditions such as billet volume, flash, cavity filling, and the distribution of damage during the forming by using FE analysis. In the results of analysis, the possibility of structural failure in the model has not been found because its maximum effective stress is much lower than yield strength of the titanium alloy. In the forging die design, flash has been allowed because of low production in the industrial field. Preform design was studied by using FE-analysis, and its optimal dimension was obtained in the hot forging of rotor grip with titanium alloy.

This work conducts a validation study for loads analysis of the UH-60A slowed rotor at high advance ratios. The nonlinear flexible multibody dynamics analysis code, DYMORE II, is used with a freewake model for the rotorcraft comprehensive analysis. Wind tunnel test data of airloads and structural loads of a full-scale UH-60A slowed rotor are used for this validation study. This analysis predicts well the thrust reversal phenomenon at the advance ratio of 1.0. The section airloads such as normal forces and pitching moments and the oscillatory blade structural moments in this analysis are compared well or moderately with the measured data, although the higher harmonics components of blade torsion moments are not captured well. This validation study assesses the prediction accuracy and investigates the unique aeromechanics characteristics of a slowed rotor at high advance ratio.
