노치 영역에서 유체 관성을 고려한 압력 평형형 베인 펌프의 압력 상승에 관한 연구 (A Study on the pressure Rising Considered Fluid inertia in the Notch Area of Balanced Type Vane Pump)

  • This paper reports on theoretical study of the pressure overshoot in the delivery ports and pressure rising within balanced type vane pump. Pressure overshoot occur due to the accelerated fluid through the notch, so, result in pressure ripple, flow ripple, and noise. For calculating the pressure rising and fluctuations of pressure, we have modeled mathematically used continuity equation based on compressibility and momentum equation considered fluid inertia in the notch, and analyzed simultaneously. As a results of analysis, we have found oscillation of pressure and compression chamber pressure depend on the rotational speeds, notches. Using the model, notches have been shown to be important design factor in relaxing the rapid pressure rising and reducing the amplitudes of pressure overshoot.

탠덤 디퓨저의 상대 위치에 따른 원심압축기 성능 예측 (Numerical Analysis on the Performance Prediction of a Centrifugal Compressor with Relative Positions of Tandem Diffuser Rows)

  • The performance of a centrifugal compressor composed of an impeller, tandem diffuser rows and axial guide vanes has been predicted numerically and compared with available experimental results on its design rotational speed. The pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was employed for the boundaries between rotor and stator to obtain steady state solutions. The overall characteristics showed difference according to the relative positions of tandem diffuser rows while the characteristics of impeller showed almost identical result. The numerical results agree with the measured data in respect of their tendency. It turned out that $0\%$ of relative positions is the worst case in terms of static pressure recovery and efficiency. According to the experimental results, some pressure fluctuations and malfunction of the compressor were observed for $75\%$ case. However, this numerical calculation using mixing plane method did not capture any of those phenomena. Thus, unsteady flow calculation should be performed to investigate the stability of the compressor caused by different diffuser configuration.

Optical Detection of Red Blood Cell Aggregation in a Disposable Microfluidic Channel

  • The aggregability of red blood cells (RBCs) was determined by laser backscattering light analysis in a microfluidic channel. Available techniques for RBC aggregation often adopt a rotational Couette-flow using a bob-and-cup system for disaggregating RBCs, which causes the system to be complex and expensive. A disposable microfluidic channel and vibration generating mechanism were used in the proposed new detection system for RBC aggregation. Prior to measurement, RBC aggregates in a blood sample were completely disaggregated by the application of vibration-induced shear. With the present apparatus, the aggregation indexes of RBCs can be measured easily with small quantities of a blood sample. The measurements with the present aggregometer were compared with those of LORCA and the results showed a strong correlation between them. The aggregability of the defibrinogenated blood RBCs is markedly lower than that of the normal RBCs. The noble feature of this design is the vibration-induced disaggregation mechanism, which can incorporate the disposable element that holds the blood sample.

부분분사 마이크로 축류형터빈에서의 익형각 효과에 관한 연구 (Effect of Blade Angles on a Micro Axial-Type Turbine Operated in a Low Partial Admission Rate)

  • 본 연구에 채택된 마이크로터빈은 축류형 터빈으로 2단으로 구성되어져 있으며 로터 유로에서의 평균반경이 8.4 mm이다. 이러한 소형 터빈은 마이크로 동력시스템의 드라이브로 사용되어질 수 있으며 무부하 상태에서 100,000 RPM의 회전속도에 도달한다. 하지만 낮은 부분분사에서 작동하므로 동익과 정익의 익형각에 따라 성능의 변화가 발생되어진다. 따라서 노즐, 정익, 동익의 익형각을 변경하면서 비출력과 총 비토오크를 측정하여 각각의 성능을 분석하였다. 성능실험의 결과에 의하면 동익 익형각의 변화에 따라 총 비토오크가 15%까지 변경되어졌으며 최적의 입사각은 $10.3^{\circ}$ 정도였다.

  • In these days, environmental concerns have been increased throughout the industry and community worldwide. To prevent the ozone depletion, ozone depletion potential of a refrigerant must be zero. Simultaneously, a refrigerant with low GWP (global warming potential) is very demanding to induce green house effect. Chlorine-free HFC-l34a is a refrigerant widely used for automotive air-conditioning system because its destruction potential is ecologically zero. Although HFC-l34a has no ozone depletion potential, its global warming potential is so high that it is not considered as a perfect alternative refrigerant that is acceptable for long-term use. In this paper, experimental measurement has been carried out to analyze the performance characteristics of automotive air-conditioning system using HFC-152a, which has low GWP and zero ODP. Also mixed refrigerant that is composed of HFC-152a and $CF_3$ was applied to investigate an alternative possibility for the automotive airconditioning system. As a result of this study, we could draw following conclusions; With respect to the variation of the rotational speed of compressor, outside air temperature and flow rate, the heat amount of evaporator and compressor and performance coefficient was varied.

회전컵 무화기의 미립화 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Atomization Characteristics of the Rotary Cup Atomizer)

  • Rotary atomizer is widely used in practical application ranging from combustion, cooling, spray drying, agriculture, chemical system. Rotary cup atomizer has some advantages such as extreme versatility and liquid atomization successfully varying widely in viscosity. In rotary atomization, the feed liquid is centrifugally accelerated to high velocity and the liquid extends over the rotating surface as a thin film before being discharged into an atmosphere. The degree of rotary atomization depends upon peripheral speed, feed rate, liquid properties and atomizer design. An important asset is that thickness and uniformity of the liquid sheet can readily be controlled by regulating the liquid flow rate and the rotational speed. LDPA(Laser Diffraction Particle Analyser) and image aquisition system are used to measure drop size distribution and spray pattern. The atomization characteristics of the rotary cup atomizer is investigated experimentally by varing the liquid feed rate, rotary cup speed and air velocity for atomization. As a results, the effect of air velocity on the atomization characteristics such as drop size and spray uniformity is considerably greater than variation of those with liquid feed rate.

광역상수도용 펌프의 최적결정을 위한 펌프/모터 선정 프로그램 개발 (Development of Pump/Motor Selection Program for Optimized Pump Decision of the Regional Water Supply Facilities)

  • The pump/motor selection program for optimized selection of regional water supply facilities was developed based on a flowchart compiled from basic operational data, total head requirement, initial pump/motor specification selection etc. This program was developed in Visual Basic. The program accepts, as in the flowchart, operational requirements of pumps and other system requirements, and calculates specific speed based on flow rate, total head and rotational speed. Then the calculated specific speed is used to select pump types and speed prior to determining likelihood of cavitation occurring at the calculated NPSH. Power requirement is then calculated for safe operation of pump to assist final pump selection. Test results of the program match very closely to the design values of Paldang intake pump station(3rd stage) proving that the program can be used as an effective and practical aid for designing new regional water supply systems.

증기가 분사된 축류형 터빈의 성능해석에 관한 연구 (Study on the Performance Analysis of an Axial-Type Turbine with Steam Injection)

  • Performance analysis is conducted on an axial-type turbine which is used for fire extinction by injecting water or steam into the turbine. Loss models developed by Hacker and Okapuu are applied for predicting the performance of turbine. Pressure loss generated through a turbine is converted to the thermal efficiency, and thermal and gas properties are calculated within a turbine passage. Total-to-total efficiency, total-to-static efficiency, static temperature at the exit of turbine, output power, flow coefficient, blade loading coefficient, and expansion ratio are predicted with changing the amount of injected steam and the rotational speed. The 74 kW class gas turbine developed at KIMM is chosen for performance analysis. The 74 kW class turbine consists of 1 stage like a current developing gas turbine for fire extinction. Water or steam is injected at the end of combustor, and results show that efficiency and output power are dependent on the temperature of injected water or steam and the static temperature at the exit is decreased.

  • A turbopump system composed of two pumps and one turbine is considered. The turbine composed of a nozzle and a rotor is used to drive the pumps while gas passes through the nozzle, potential energy is converted to kinematic energy, which forces the rotor blades to spin. In this study, an aerodynamic design of turbine system is investigated using compressible fluid dynamic theories with some pre-determined design requirements (i.e., pressure ratio, rotational speed, required power etc.) obtained from liquid rocket engine (L.R.E.) system design. For simplicity of turbine system, impulse-type rotor blades for open type L.R.E. have been chosen. Usually, the open-type turbine system requires low mass flow rate compared to close-type system. In this study, a partial admission nozzle Is adopted to maximize the efficiency of the open-type turbine system. A design methodology of turbine system has been introduced. Especially, partial admission nozzle has been designed by means of simple empirical correlations between efficiency and configuration of the nozzle. Finally, a turbine system design for a 10 ton thrust level of L.R.E is presented.

  • Air foil bearings have been attempted for application to industrial turbo machines, since they have several advantages over oil bearings in terms of endurance, simplicity, environment-friendliness, efficiency, sound and vibration, and small turbo machines with air foil bearings are in the market as the result. Recently, researches on widening the application spectrum of air foil bearings are in progress worldwide. In this paper, a 300 HP class turbo blower using air foil bearings is introduced. The turbo blower has a high speed PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) driving a compressor, and air flow rate is designed to be $180\;m^3/min$ at pressure ratio of 1.6. The maximum rotational speed is set to 17,000 RPM to maximize the total efficiency with the result that the weight of rotor assembly is 26kg, which is expected to be the largest turbo machine with air foil bearings ever developed in the world.
