Influence of Implant Surface Coated with pH Buffering Agent on Early Osseointegration

  • Purpose: Surface treatment with pH buffering agent has been developed to achieve higher and faster osseointegration. The aim of this study was to evaluate its influence by measuring removal torque and analyzing histological characteristics. Materials and Methods: Titanium implants with following surfaces were used in this study: sand-blasted acid-etched (SA) surface (SA group as control I group), SA surface in calcium chloride aqueous solution (CA group as control II group) and SA surface coated with pH buffering agent (pH group as test group). Removal torque test after 2 weeks and bone-to-implant contact and bone area analyses at 2 and 4 weeks were performed. Result: The rotational torque values at 2 weeks were significantly higher in pH group ($107.5{\pm}6.2Ncm$, P<0.05). The mean values of bone-to-implant contact at 2 and 4 weeks were both higher in pH group ($93.0%{\pm}6.4%$ at 2 weeks, $88.6%{\pm}5.5%$ at 4 weeks) than in SA group ($49.7%{\pm}9.7%$ at 2 weeks, $47.3%{\pm}20.1%$ at 4 weeks) and CA group ($73.7%{\pm}12.4%$ at 2 weeks, $72.5%{\pm}10.9%$ at 4 weeks) with significances (P<0.05). The means of bone area showed significantly higher numbers in pH group ($39.5%{\pm}11.3%$ at 2 weeks, $71.9%{\pm}10.9%$ at 4 weeks, P<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that surface modification with pH buffering agent improved early osseointegration with superior biomechanical property.

유한요소해석을 이용한 선박수송차량용 사이클로이드 감속기의 성능 검토 (Performance Review of a Cycloid Speed Reducer for Ship Transport Vehicles using FEM)

  • 사이클로이드 감속기는 기계의 회전수를 조절하기위한 장치이다. 사이클로이드 감속기는 큰 토크로 변환시킬 수 있는 장점이 있지만 높은 회전수 에는 적합하지 않다. 한편 200톤 하중이 가해지는 수송기기에 있어서 감속기의 사용한계속도를 찾아내기는 불가능하다. 본 연구에서는 LS-DYNA를 이용하여 마찰손실동력을 수치 해석적으로 검토하였다. 최대토크3.5ton-m에 있어서 회전수 60rpm 그리고 162rpm으로 구동하여 해석을 수행한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 60rpm회전의 경우 최대응력은 RV gear의 경우 463MPa 핀기어의 경우 507MPa이 발생하였다. 마찰손실동력은 50kW이며, 162rpm의 경우 최대응력값은 RV gear와 핀기어 각각 550MPa, 538MPa이 발생하였다. 손실동력은 175kW이 발생하여 사용이 불가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • In nature, many small insects are using jumping as a survival strategy. Among them, fleas jump in a unique method. They use an elastomer, 'Resilin', an extensor muscle and a trigger muscle. By contracting the extensor muscle, the elastic energy, that makes a flea to jump, is stored in the resilin. After storing energy, the trigger muscle begins contracting and pulling the extensor muscle. When the extensor muscle crosses the rotational joint, direction of torque generated from the extensor muscle reverses, 'torque reversal mechanism'. Simultaneously, the elastic energy stored in the resilin releases rapidly and is converted into the kinetic energy. It makes a flea to jump 150 times its body length. In this paper, miniaturized jumping robot using flea-inspired catapult mechanism is presented. This mechanism is based on the 4-bar linkage and the reversal joint and is actuated by Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) coiled springs describing the flea's muscle. The robot prototype is fabricated by SCM process using glass fiber prepregs and a sheet of polyimide film. The prototype is 20mm link length, 34mm width and 2.0g weight and can jump 103cm.

견갑면에서의 견관절 외전정도에 따른 등속성회전운동의 근력 평가 (An Evaluation for Isokinetic Strength During Shoulder Rotation Movement in the Scapular Plane with Various Abduction)

  • Glenohumeral internal and external rotation with shoulder abducted in the frontal plane often causes impingement of the supraspinatus tendon. whereas similar activity in scapular plane does not cause impingement. The Purpose of this study was to determine if assessment among the three positions as 30 degrees, 60 degrees, 90 degrees abduction in the sitting position of the scapular plane could be affected the comparison between intemal and external peak torque, total work, average power. In this study, Isokinetic shoulder rotational strength was evaluated in twenty healthy male university students, using the Cybex NORMTM System (CYBEX Division of LUMEX, Inc., Ronkonkoma, New York). Test data was gathered in the plane of the scapular, 30 degrees of horizontal flexion anterior to coronal plane, and the subjects performed the test with the arm 30, 60, and 90degrees abducted in the sitting position. also, test speed was set at deg/sec. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 7.5 for Windows software and mean and standard deviations were calculated. ANOVA was used to analyze the difference of the values in the three test positions. A paired t-test was used of examining the difference in the means peak torque between external and internal rotation. Not any significant difference was found among three abduction positions in scapular plane, even though there was a consistent pattern of greater strength in the abducted position of 60 degrees. Internal relation strength peak torque and total work were greater than those of external rotation in every test positions.

Unscented KALMAN Filtering for Spacecraft Attitude and Rate Determination Using Magnetometer

  • An Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for estimation of the attitude and rate of a spacecraft using only magnetometer vector measurement is developed. The attitude dynamics used in the estimation is the nonlinear Euler's rotational equation which is augmented with the quaternion kinematics to construct a process model. The filter is designed for small satellite in low Earth orbit, so the disturbance torques include gravity-gradient torque, magnetic disturbance torque, and aerodynamic drag torque. The magnetometer measurements are simulated based on time-varying position of the spacecraft. The filter has been tested not only in the standby mode but also in the detumbling mode. Two types of actuators have been modeled and applied in the simulation. The PD controller is used for the two types of actuators (reaction wheels and thrusters) to detumble the spacecraft. The estimation error converged to within 5 deg for attitude and 0.1 deg/s for rate respectively when the two types of actuators were used. A joint state parameter estimation has been tested and the effect of the process noise covariance on the parameter estimation has been indicated. Also, Monte-Carlo simulations have been performed to test the capability of the filter to converge with the initial conditions sampled from a uniform distribution. Finally, the UKF performance has been compared to that of the EKF and it demonstrates that UKF slightly outperforms EKF. The developed algorithm can be applied to any type of small satellites that are actuated by magnetic torquers, reaction wheels or thrusters with a capability of magnetometer vector measurements for attitude and rate estimation.

단면형 로터리경운날의 경운 특성 (Tillage Characteristics of the Single-Edged Rotary Blade)

  • The purpose of this study is to developed high-efficient rotary tillage system for a power tiller by improving the rotary blade. A kind of the rotary blade with single-edged blade(DS) was developed that requires lower tillage energy than conventional double-edged blade(CD) on the design theory for Japanese rotary blade. In order to find out the tillage characteristics between the single-edged blade and the double-edged blade for power tiller, experiments were performed in soil-bins which were filled up clay loam, loam and sandy loam, and then analyzed the effects of the factors such as soil texture, travelling speed, rotational speed, and tillage depth to each of the blades. And field tests were carried out to compare tillage performances of the two blades using rotary cultivator driven by conventional power tiller. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1) On the soil bin experiment, it was found that tillage torque of the single-edged blade was less than the ones of the double-edged blade. The decreasing ratios of maximum tillage torque of the single-edged blade to the ones of the double-edged blade were 1 to 8% at clay loam, 5 to 20% at loam and 9 to 31% at sandy loam, respectively. 2) By the field tests, that the tillage performances with the single-edged blade compared with the double-edged blade was improved about 19% in field capacity, about 34% in fuel consumption, and 12.5% in soil breaking ratio. Furthermore, the fluctuation of engine speed, the variation of exhaust gas temperature, and the amount of soil clogging on the blade and straw wound on the rotary shaft showed lower values with the developed blade than the conventional blade. So, it may be concluded that tillage performance by the developed single-edged blade was improved compared with the one by the conventional double-edged blade.

제어모멘트자이로를 장착한 위성의 기동성능 분석 (Maneuverability Analysis for Spacecraft Installed With CMGs)

  • 본 논문은 제어 모멘트 자이로를 장착한 위성의 효율적인 기동성능 분석을 위한 지표로 활용되고 있는 유효 각운동량 차트(FAM Chart)를 설계 및 분석한다. 최근 인공위성의 고기동성에 대한 요구가 증가함에 따라 위성에게 주어진 임무를 보다 효과적으로 수행하기 위하여 고 토크 발생기인 제어 모멘트 자이로(CMGs)에 대한 관심이 상승하고 있는 추세이다. 다만 CMG는 특정 방향으로 제어 토크가 발생하지 않는 특이점 문제가 존재하므로 이를 개선하기 위하여 본 논문은 지붕형 배치를 따르는 두 쌍의 제어 모멘트 자이로(TPCMGs)를 장착한 위성 시스템에 대하여 고려하였으며, 특이점 발생 가능 공간 및 구동기 제한으로 인한 토크 오류 발생 공간을 제외한 김벌 공간을 새롭게 정의하여 이에 따른 유효 각운동량 공간을 FAM 차트라 칭함으로써, 해당 공간 내의 위성 3축 파라미터들을 수학적으로 도출해낼 수 있으므로 효과적인 위성 기동성능 분석이 가능함에 의의가 있다.

전치부 하악운동양태와 과두운동 간의 관계 (RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MANDIBULAR MOVEMENTS AT INCISAL AREA AND CONDYLAR MOVEMENTS)

  • The author performed this study to investige the relationship between condylar movements recorded with Pantronic and mandibular movements at incisal area recorded with BioEGN. For this study 24 patients with Temporomandibular disorders(TMDs) and 30 dental students without any masticatory symptoms were selected as patients group and control group, respectively. The items recorded with Pantronic(Denar Corp., USA) were immediate side-shift, orbiting path, protrusive path, and PRI. BioEGN(Bioelectric-gnathography, Bioresearch Inc., USA) were sued to measure the amount of mandibular torque movement in frontal and horizontal plane and also the distance of mandibular translation at incisal area. Amount of mandibular rotational torque movement was analyzed by angle and difference between both condyles in frontal and horizontal plane. The collected data were processed with SAS program and conclusion were as follows : 1. Mean value of items recorded with Pantronic were not significantly differed between patients group and control group except the item of pantographic reproducibility index(PRI). The value of PRI was 39.5 in patients group, and 29.5 in control group. 2. The amount of mandibular torque movement was not differed tin early protrusive and early left excursion between patients group and control group, but in early right excursion, patients group showed more value than control group did. 3. The distance on sagittal plane in early eccentric movements were longer in patients group than those in control group, but the distance of maximal eccentric movements were not significantly differed between patients group and control group. 4. Items which showed significant correlation with PRI were progressive side-shift, and horizontal torque movement in early protrusion and right excursion. 5. The angle of protrusive path of affected side was greater than of non-affected side in unilaterally affected patients, but the protrusive angle of preferred chewing side was not differed from that of contralateral side in control group. 6. The amount of torque movement in early protrusion and right excursion were greater in patients with coincidence of affected side and preferred chewing side than in patients without coincidence.

Performance Evaluation of a Driving Power Transmission System for 50 kW Narrow Tractors

  • Purpose: The development of compact tractors that can be used in dry fields, greenhouses, and orchards for pest control, weeding, transportation, and harvesting is necessary. The development and performance evaluation of power transmission units are very important when it comes to tractor development. This study evaluates the performance of a driving power transmission unit of a 50 kW multi-purpose narrow tractor. Methods: The performance of the transmission and forward-reverse clutch, which are the main components of the driving power transmission unit of multi-purpose narrow tractors, was evaluated herein. The transmission performance was evaluated in terms of power transmission efficiency, noise, and axle load, while the forward-reverse clutch performance was evaluated in terms of durability. The transmission's power transmission efficiency accounts for the measurement of transmission losses, which occur in the transmission's gear, bearing, and oil seal. The motor's power was input in the transmission's input shaft. The rotational speed and torque were measured in the final output shaft. The noise was measured at each speed level after installing a microphone on the left, right, and upper sides. The axle load test was performed through a continuous equilibrium load test, in which a constant load was continuously applied. The forward-reverse clutch performance was calculated using the engine torque to axle torque ratio with the assembled engine and transmission. Results: The loss of power in the transmission efficiency test of the driving power unit was 6.0-9.7 kW based on all gear steps. This loss of horsepower was equal to 11-18% of the input power (52 kW). The transmission efficiency of the driving power unit was 81.5-89.0%. The noise of the driving power unit was 50-57 dB at 800 rpm, 70-77 dB at 1600 rpm, and 76-83 dB at 2400 rpm. The axle load test verified that the input torque and axle revolutions were constant. The results of the forward-reverse clutch performance test revealed that hydraulic pressure and torque changes were stably maintained when moving forward or backward, and its operation met the hydraulic design standards. Conclusions: When comprehensively examined, these research results were similar to the main driving power transmission systems from USA and Japan in terms of performance. Based on these results, tractor prototypes are expected to be created and supplied to farmhouses after going through sufficient in-situ adaptability tests.

표면처리가 교정용 미니 임플랜트의 식립수직력과 토크에 미치는 영향 (Influence of surface treatment on the insertion pattern of self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 유지력을 높이기 위하여 교정용 미니 임플랜트에 표면처리를 시행하되 식립 과정의 용이성에 영향을 주지 않는 표면처리 방법을 찾기 위함이다. 교정용 미니 임플랜트를 etching, resorbable blasting media (RBM), 상부 나사산 부위만 RBM 처리를 한 hybrid 등의 3가지 방법으로 표면처리한 후 machined (표면 미처리)군과 비교하였다. 주사전자현미경과 표면 거칠기 측정기로 표면 거칠기를 비교하였으며, driving torque tester를 이용해 실험용 인공골에 교정용 미니 임플랜트를 식립하여, 식립 토크(rotational torque)와 수직력(vertical loading)의 식립 패턴을 비교하였다. Machined surface군과 비교하여 acid etching군에서는 표면 거칠기(Ra 값)가 크지 않았으나 ($p$ > 0.05), RBM군이나 hybrid군에서 표면 거칠기(Ra 값)가 유의하게 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 최종 식립 토크는 모든 표면처리군에서 machined군보다 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 최대 식립수직력은 hybrid군이 machined군이나 etched군보다 유의하게 작았으며 ($p$ < 0.05), RBM군이 가장 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 교정용 미니 임플랜트의 유지력을 높이기 위하여 보철용 임플랜트와 같은 방법으로 전면 표면처리를 하면 self drilling type 고유의 골 삭제기능이 저하될 수 있다. 그러나 cutting edge 일정 부위를 제외하며 적절하게 조절된 표면처리를 하면 골 삭제 능력의 큰 저하 없이 용이한 식립이 가능할 것으로 보인다.
