An intelligent system for isomorphic transformation pattern recognition

  • To recognize isomorphic transformation patterns, such as scale-change, translation and rotation transformed patterns, is an old difficult but interesting problem. Many researches have been done with a dominant approach of normalization by many eminent pioneers. However, there seems no a perfect system which can even recognize 90 .deg.-multiple rotation isomorphic transformation patterns for real needs. Here, as a new challenge, we propose a method of how to recognize 90 .deg.-multiple rotation isomorphic and symmetry isomorphic transformation patterns.

  • In this paper, we propose a new image descriptor, that is, a rotation invariant histogram of oriented gradients (RIHOG). RIHOG overcomes a disadvantage of the histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), which is very sensitive to image rotation. The HOG only uses magnitude values of a pixel without considering neighboring pixels. The RIHOG uses the accumulated relative magnitude values of corresponding relative orientation calculated with neighboring pixels, which has an effect on reducing the sensitivity to image rotation. The performance of RIHOG is verified via the index of classification and classification of Brodatz texture data.

  • In this paper, we studied for the real-time azimuthal measurement of HMD(Head Mounted Display) using the feature points detection to control the tele-operated vision system on the mobile robot. To give the sense of presence to the tele-operator, we used a HMD to display the remote scene, measured the rotation angle of the HMD on a real time basis, and transmitted the measured rotation angles to the mobile robot controller to synchronize the pan-tilt angles of remote camera with the HMD. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm for the real-time estimation of the HMD rotation angles using feature points extraction from pc-camera image.

The Effect of Aquatic Rotation Exercise on Balance Maintenance (수중회전조절운동이 20대 여성의 균형유지에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to examine the effects of a Halliwick rotation program on improving balance. Methods: Nine healthy females were randomly assigned to a Halliwick rotation program training as an aquatic group (n=9, age=$22.5{\pm}1.3$ years) or to a control group. The aquatic group trained using a Halliwick rotation program (3 times/week, 30 min/day) for 6 weeks. Balance was measured according to stance position: Hard Plate Open Eyes (HOE), Hard Plate Close Eyes (HCE), Soft Plate Open Eyes (SOE) and Soft Plate Close Eyes (SCE). This was done before the training and 3 and 6 weeks after the training. The data were analyzed with the SPSS Win 12.0 program using repeated measure ANOVA. Results: There were significant training-induced differences in SOE and POE (p<0.05), and in SCE and PCE (p<0.05) by Toe pad. There were significant training-induced differences in SOE and POE (p<0.05) by Heel pad after the aquatic rotation exercise program. Conclusion: The Halliwick rotation program can improve balance.

Effect of 8 Direction Incline and Rotation Exercise on Pain and Dynamic Balance in the Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain (8방향 경사와 회전 운동이 만성요통환자의 통증과 동적균형에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of 8 direction incline and rotation exercise on pain and dynamic balance in the patients with chronic low back pain(CLBP). 20 patients who were diagnosed with CLBP were included for the study. 10 patients(experimental group) were treated by modality{Hot Pack(H/P), Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation(TENS), Ultra Sound(U/S)} and then performed 8 direction incline and rotation exercise. The other 10 patients(control group) were only treated by modality. The therapeutic intervention was taken three times a week for 6 weeks. Dynamic balance was assessed by Star Excursion Balance Test(SEBT) and pain was assessed by Visual Analog Scale(VAS). VAS scores of both groups were decreased. However, the experimental group was more significantly decreased than the control group. The dynamic balance of both groups was significantly increased in anterior, posterior, medial, lateral direction. But experimental group was more significantly increased than the control group. In conclusion, 8 direction incline and rotation exercise was effective on pain and dynamic balance in CLPB.

  • There is a great demand to manipulate biological cell autonomously since biologist should spend much time to obtain skillful manipulation techniques. For this purpose, we propose a cell chip to control, carry, fix and locate the cell. In this paper, we focus on the cell rotator to rotate individual biological cell based on a micro fluidics technology. The cell rotator consists of injection hole and rotation well to rotate a biological cell properly. Under the variation of flow rate in injection hole, the angular velocity of a biological cell is evaluated to find the feasibility of the proposed rotation method. As a practical experiment, Zebrafish egg is employed. Based on this research, we find the possibility of non-contact rotation way that can highly reduce the damage of the biological cell during manipulation. To realize an autonomous biological cell manipulation, a cell chip with manipulation well and micro channel in this research will be utilized effectively in near future.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was conducted to patients undergoing shoulder surgery rotator cuff tear group physical therapy to improve the patient's level of depression and any impact on the shoulder's ability to heal should learn. Method : This research participated in 20 patients four weeks from June 11, 2012 June 8 il experiment was carried out. Experimental group conducted physical therapy(n=10) and control group(n=10) was not conducted Results : A comparative analysis of experimental group and the control group in the levels of depression (BDI) was not significantly different. A comparative analysis of experimental group and the control group in the VAS was not significantly different. ROM(flexion, extension, abduction, and internal rotation) was significantly increased in the experimental group, whereas external rotation significantly did not increased. Conclusion : ROM of external rotation between the experimental and control groups, except for the change showed a statistically significant, the above findings, the level of pain and depression, there were no statistically significant differences.

  • Content-based image retrieval is the research of images from database, that are visually similar to given image examples. Gabor functions and Gabor filters are regarded as excellent methods for feature extraction and texture segmentation. However, they have a disadvantage not to perform well in case of a rotated image because of its direction-oriented filter. This paper proposes a method of extracting local texture features from blocks with central interest points detected in an image and a rotation invariant Gabor wavelet filter. We also propose a method of comparing pattern histograms of features classified by VQ (Vector Quantization) among images.

  • This paper presents design and performance improvement of a new digital tomosynthesis (DTS) system for object-detector synchronous rotation. Firstly, a new DTS system, called OSDR (Object-Detector Synchronous Rotation) is suggested and designed to acquire X-ray digital images. Secondly, the shape distortion of DTS images generated by an image intensifier is modeled. And a new synthesis algorithm, which overcomes the limitations of the existing synthesis algorithm, is suggested to improve the sharpness of the synthesized image. Also an artifact analysis of the DTS system is performed. Thirdly, some performance indices, which evaluate quantitatively performance improvement, are defined. And the experimental verification of the performance improvement is accomplished by the ODSR system newly designed. The advantages of the ODSR system are expressed quantitatively, compared with an existing system.
