Flow through a turbine flow meter is simulated by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The solution method is based on the pseudo-compressibility approach and uses an implicit-upwind differencing scheme together with the Gauss-Seidel line relaxation method. The equations are solved steadily in rotating reference frames, and the centrifugal force and the Coriolis force are added to the equation of motion. The standard $k-{\epsilon}$model is employed to evaluate turbulent viscosity. Computational results yield quantitative as well as qualitative information on the design of turbine flow meters by showing the distributions of pressure and velocity around the turbine blades.
This article presents an application of a large-scale structural mixing model(Broadwell et at. 1984) to the blowout of turbulent reacting cross flow jets. Experimental observations, therefore, aim to identify the existence of large-scale vortical structure exerting an important effect upon the flame stabilization. In the analysis of common stability curve, it is seen that the phenomenon of blowout are only related to the mixing time scale of the two flows. The most notable observation is that the blowout distance is traced at a fixed positions according to the velocity ratio at all times. Measurements of the lower blowout limits in the liftable flame are qualitatively in agreement with the blowout parameter $\xi$, proposed by Broadwell et al. Good agrement between the results calculated by a modified blowout parameter $\xi$'and the present experimental results confirms the important effect of large-scale structure in the stabilization feature of blowout.
Today, the research to examine a fact that interaction between the air and the fluid free surface affects the steady state flow and air. We proved the interaction between vortex pairs and free surface on each condition that is created by the end of delta wings. another purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of surface active material which can change the surface tension and we must consider when we refer to turbulent flow on surface tension. therefore, this research examined the growth process of vortex pairs on condition of clean, contaminated free surface and wall after we made vortex pairs through counter rotating flaps. The results of this study suggest that vortex pairs in clean free surface rise safely but the vortex pairs in contaminated free surface and rigid, no slip is made secondary vortex or rebounding. However the secondary vortex in rigid, no slip is stronger than before, and we can find the vortex shape which roll up more completely. However, these will disappear by the effect of wall.
Fan noise prediction method is presented for air conditioning, automobile and electronic cooling system applications where fan acts as an internal equipment having very complicated flow interaction with other various system components. The internal flow paths and distribution in the fan-applied systems such as computer or air conditioner are analyzed by using the FNM(flow network modeling). Fan noise prediction method comprises two models for the discrete frequency noise due to rotating steady aerodynamic lift and blade interaction and for the broadband noise due to turbulent boundary layer and wake vortex shedding. Based on the fan operation point predicted from the FNM analysis results and fan design parameters, the present far noise model predicts overall sound pressure level and spectrum. The predictions for the flow distribution, the fan operation and the noise level in air cooling system by the present method are well agreed with 3-D CFD and actual noise test results.

Curretly, the development of MEMS(Micro Electronic Mechanical System) technology awakes many research's interest for the aerodynamics. This work presents the development of a compact synthetic jet actuator for flow separation control at the flat plate. The formation and evolution of fluidic actuators based on synthetic jet technology are investigated using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Also, 2-Dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes equation solver with single partitioning method for Multi-Block grid to analyze and a modeled boundary condition in developed fo. the synthetic jet actuator. Both laminar and turbulent jets are investigated. Results show very good agreement with experimental measurements. A jet flow develops, even though no net mass flow is introduced. Pair of counter-rotating vortices are observed near the jet exit as are observed in the experiments.
Computational and experimental investigations on the three-dimensional flowfield through an automotive cooling fan are carried out in this work. Steady, incompressible, three-dimensional, turbulent flow through a rotating axial-flow fan is analyzed with Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations and standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model. The governing equations are discretized with finite-volume approximations in non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. Computational static pressures on the casing wall agree well with the experimental data which are measured in this work. And, they are sensitive to the change of tip clearance. The flowfield is not significantly affected by the thickness of the blade. The k-.omega. model gives the static pressure rise on the casing wall which is similar to that with the k-.epsilon. model.
A numerical model is employed for design of a spinner device to dry the 5-th generation LCD glass panel. The turbulent flow in a spinner is driven by rotation of a large disk and suction by the exhaust system connected to vacuum chamber, which is simulated by using the FLUENT package. Based on numerical simulation, the required capacity of exhaust system is assessed. The effects of the presence of cover on the flow characteristics are examined. A computational trouble shooting is attempted to resolve the problem of panel rising which occurred in real experiments.

The effects of casing shapes on the performance and the interaction between an impeller and a casing in a small-sized centrifugal compressor are investigated. Especially, numerical analyses are conducted for the centrifugal compressor with both a circular casing and a volute one. The optimum design for each element (i.e., impeller, diffuser and casing) is important to develop an efficient and compact compressor using alternative refrigerant as working fluids. Typical rotating speed of the compressor is in the range of 40,000∼45,000 rpm. The impeller has backswept blades due to tip clearance and a vane diffuser has wedge type. In order to predict the flow pattern inside an entire impeller, vaneless diffuser and casing, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For computations of compressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are employed. To evaluate the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure recovery and loss coefficients are obtained for various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load. The static pressure around the casing and pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor are measured for the circular casing.
This work is to observe the wake flow generated behind a ramp. We have conducted a large eddy simulation with two ramp models having different heights with two different inflow conditions. Reynolds number based on the height of the large ramp (LR) and small ramp (SR) are Reh = 2.8×104 and 1.4×104 respectively. The wake flow visualization shows the formation of streamwise counter-rotating vortices pairs at the downstream of the obstacle. These primary vortices are stretched and lifted up when moving downstream. In order to observe the effect of the inflow condition on the wake transition, two different inlet flow conditions are given on the inlet section as an inlet boundary condition. Induced counter-rotating vortices pairs due to sharp-edged triangular ramp obstacles are developed and propagated downstream. In the result, the large ramp shows a more complicated wake structure of the boundary layer than the small ramp.
