  • This study investigated the rate of setup variance by the rotating unbalance of gantry in image-guided radiation therapy. The equipments used linear accelerator(Elekta Synergy TM, UK) and a three-dimensional volume imaging mode(3D Volume View) in cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) system. 2D images obtained by rotating $360^{\circ}$and $180^{\circ}$ were reconstructed to 3D image. Catpan503 phantom and homogeneous phantom were used to measure the setup errors. Ball-bearing phantom was used to check the rotation axis of the CBCT. The volume image from CBCT using Catphan503 phantom and homogeneous phantom were analyzed and compared to images from conventional CT in the six dimensional view(X, Y, Z, Roll, Pitch, and Yaw). The variance ratio of setup error were difference in X 0.6 mm, Y 0.5 mm Z 0.5 mm when the gantry rotated $360^{\circ}$ in orthogonal coordinate. whereas rotated $180^{\circ}$, the error measured 0.9 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm in X, Y, Z respectively. In the rotating coordinates, the more increased the rotating unbalance, the more raised average ratio of setup errors. The resolution of CBCT images showed 2 level of difference in the table recommended. CBCT had a good agreement compared to each recommended values which is the mechanical safety, geometry accuracy and image quality. The rotating unbalance of gentry vary hardly in orthogonal coordinate. However, in rotating coordinate of gantry exceeded the ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ of recommended value. Therefore, when we do sophisticated radiation therapy six dimensional correction is needed.

  • For the balancing control of a one-wheel mobile robot, CMG (Control Moment Gyro) can be used as a gyroscopic actuator. Balancing control has to be done in the roll angle direction by an induced gyroscopic motion. Since the dedicated CMG cannot produce the rolling motion of the body directly, the yawing motion with the help of the frictional reaction can be used. The dynamic uncertainties including the chattering of the control input, disturbances, and vibration during the flipping control of the high rotating flywheel, however, cause ill effect on the balancing performance and even lead to the instability of the system. Fuzzy compensation is introduced as an auxiliary control method to prevent the robot from the failure due to leaning aside of the flywheel. Simulation studies are conducted to see the feasibility of the proposed control method. In addition, experimental studies are conducted for the verification of the proposed control.

  • Today, the research to examine a fact that interaction between the air and the fluid free surface affects the steady state flow and air. We proved the interaction between vortex pairs and free surface on each condition that is created by the end of delta wings. Another purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of surface active material which call change the surface tension and we must consider when we refer to turbulent flow on surface tension. Therefore, this research examined the growth process of vortex pairs on condition of clean, contaminated free surface and wall after we made vortex pairs through counter rotating flaps. The results of this study suggest that vortex pairs in clean free surface rise safely but the vortex pairs in contaminated free surface and rigid, no slip is made secondary vortex or rebounding. However the secondary vortex in rigid, no slip is stronger than before. and we can find the vortex shape which roll up more completely. However, these will disappear by the effect of wall.

  • The round bale wrappers are generally used for rice straw after the harvesting of low land rice by combine harvester. In this situation, the bale wrappers should be well adapted under the travelling over raised borders and temporary ditches in soft soil of narrow rice fields. The study was conducted to improve the performance of bale wrapper through the new design for compact size, lowered gravity center and lowered power consumption. The prototype of round bale wrapper had been designed and assembled to tractor with three point hitch mounted. The machine type is one roll driving system with one roll for rotating and one roll for wrapping. The driving torque and work performance of the machines were measured and analysed. The torque requirement of the prototype and conventional type was 6kgf-m and 12kgf-m, respectively. The prototype shaved less friction resistance between bale driving roll and round bale. and the power requirement can also be reduced from 12kgf-m in the conventional to 6kgf-m in the prototype. The work efficiency of the new bale wrapper was $45\%$ higher than the conventional wrapper, and the working cost of the prototype can be reduced $17\%$ than that of the conventional.

  • We report a midinfrared dual-field-of-view (FOV) optical system design for an airborne electro-optical targeting system. To achieve miniaturization and weight reduction of the system, it has a common aperture and fore-optics for three different spectral wavelength bands: an electro-optic (EO) band ($0.6{\sim}0.9{\mu}m$), a midinfrared (IR) band ($3.6{\sim}4.9{\mu}m$), and a designation laser wavelength ($1.064{\mu}m$). It is free to steer the line of sight by rotating the pitch and roll axes. Our design co-aligns the roll axis, and the line of sight therefore has a fixed entrance pupil position for all optical paths, unlike previously reported dual-FOV designs, which dispenses with image coregistration that is otherwise required. The fore-optics is essentially an achromatized, collimated beam reducer for all bands. Following the fore-optics, the bands are split into the dual-FOV IR path and the EO/laser path by a beam splitter. The subsequent dual-FOV IR path design consists of a zoom lens group and a relay lens group. The IR path with the fore-optics provides two stepwise FOVs ($1.50^{\circ}{\times}1.20^{\circ}$ to $5.40^{\circ}{\times}4.32^{\circ}$), due to the insertion of two Si lenses into the zoom lens group. The IR optical system is designed in such a way that the location and f-number (f/5.3) of the cold stop internally provided by the IR detector are maintained when changing the zoom. The design also satisfies several important performance requirements, including an on-axis modulation transfer function (MTF) that exceeds 10% at the Nyquist frequency of the IR detector pitch, with distortion of less than 2%.

  • An attitude controller for a 6-DOF hovering autonomous underwater vehicle (HAUV) is implemented. We add a vertical thruster, an underwater camera, a wireless communication device, and a DVL to the HAUV that was developed a year ago. The HAUV is composed of 5 thrusters, 2 servo-motors, and 4 apparatus parts. Two rotating thrusters control the surge, heave, and roll of the vehicle. The vertical thruster controls the pitch, and two horizontal thrusters control the sway and yaw of the vehicle. The HAUV’s movement in each direction is controlled by 6 PID controllers. Each PID controller controls the propulsive force and angle of a thruster. In a horizontal and vertical movement experiment, we showed the feasibility of the proposed controller by maintaining a given depth and heading angle of the HAUV.

  • $MgB_2$ superconducting sheets have been fabricated by powder rolling method using mixture of Mg and B powders. Sheet-type $MgB_2$ bulk samples of ~10 mm width and 50-100 mm long were squeezed out after compacted by two rotating rolls of 130 mm diameter with gap distance of 0.5 mm and speed of ~40 cm/min (~1 rpm). The nominal composition of Mg, which is ductile metal, was added up to 30% to facilitate forming the $MgB_2$ sheets. The annealed samples at $900^{\circ}C$ and 3 hrs showed superconducting transition temperature of ~32 K and critical current densities at zero fields were ${\sim}10^5A/cm^2$ at 5 K and ${\sim}5{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ at 20 K.

  • In order to complement the drawbacks of quartz crucible such as fragile-like break and melt-leakage through open slit nozzle, a new PFC system has been developed using a common graphite crucible and plugging system. The u melt is fed on to the rotating a roll through slit nozzle by self-gravity. The new equipment was designed and manufactured successfully. An effort for optimizing all related parameter has been made. Then using the optimized parameters about 10 meters u foil having very thin thickness, which meets the target thickness of 130 ${\mu}m$ and enough width more than 60 mm could be made. The thickness homogeneity set improved, due to the lower eddy flowing of the melt flow the self-gravity feeding system.

  • Particulate matter (PM) is one of the major indoor air pollutants especially in the subway station in Korea. In order to remove PM in the subway station, several kinds of PM removal system such as roll-filter, auto-washable air filter, demister, and electrostatic precipitator are used in the air handling unit (AHU) of subway stations. However, those systems are prone to operation and maintenance problems since the filter-regeneration unit consisting of electrical or water jet parts might malfunction due to the high load of particulates unless the filter medium is periodically replaced. In this study, the use of axial-flow cyclone was proposed for particulate filter unit in the AHU for its low operation and maintenance cost. Novel shape of axial-flow cyclone was designed by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The shape of vortex vane was optimized in terms of pressure drop and tangential velocity. In addition, CFD analysis was validated experimentally through the pressure drop measurement of mock-up model. We found that pressure drop and tangential velocity of fluid through the axia-flow cyclone was significantly affected by the rotating degree of vortex vane and the numerical prediction of pressure drop agreed well with experimental measurement.
