  • The real time IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) management is very important for large buildings and underground facilities such as subways because poor IAQ is immediately harmful to human health. Such IAQ management requires monitoring, prediction and control in an integrated and real time manner. In this paper, we present three PM10 hourly prediction models for such realtime IAQ management as both Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models. Both MLR and ANN models show good performances between 0.76 and 0.88 with respect to R (correlation coefficient) between the measured and predicted values, but the MLR models outperform the corresponding ANN models with respect to RMSE (root mean square error).

  • This study was carried out to provide the technology of silvicultural practices and management for regeneration by sprouts in the oak forests distributed on the slope. A total of 1,451 stumps were examined for the following factors relative to the occurrence and growth of the sprouts: stump height & diameter; location & quantity and root collar diameter & height of arisen sprouts. The amount of sprouts deceased or increased as the stump diameter increased. However, it tended to increase with stump height. The difference in the stump height between direction of the upwards (DUS) and downward slopes (DDS) was occurred, because oak trees were felled lower based on direction of the upward for convenience of regeneration works on the slope. The number of sprouts was higher relatively in the stumps of DDS. The rate of arisen side and root sprouts was higher in the stumps of DDS and DUS, respectively. The stump height difference was found to affect the arisen part of sprouts. As a result of comparing the sprouts growth according to the arisen part, there was no difference in the stump of DUS, but the growth of side sprouts in the stump of DDS was higher than that of the root. In order to improve the quality of oak sprouts considering the distribution characteristics of the oak forests in South Korea, it is necessary to apply the silvicultural technique, making the cutting surface parallel with the slope to reduce the stump height difference, to suppress arising side sprouts.

  • We evaluated the potentials of 10 isothiocyanates (ITCs) from cruciferous vegetables and radish root hydrolysate for inhibiting the growth of oral pathogens, with an emphasis on assessing any structure-function relationship. Structural differences in ITCs impacted their antimicrobial activities against oral pathogens differently. The indolyl ITC (indol-3-carbinol) was the most potent inhibitor of the growth of oral pathogens, followed by aromatic ITCs (benzyl ITC (BITC) and phenylethyl ITC (PEITC)) and aliphatic ITCs (erucin, iberin, and sulforaphene). Sulforaphene, which is similar in structure, but has one double bond, showed higher antimicrobial activity than sulforaphane. Erucin, which has a thiol group, showed higher antimicrobial activity than sulforaphane, which has a sulfinyl group. BITC and iberin with a short chain exhibited higher antimicrobial potential than PEITC and sulforaphane with a longer chain, respectively. ITCs have strong antimicrobial activities and may be useful in the prevention and management of dental caries.

  • Orthodontic extrusion is usually performed by means of a fixed orthodontic appliance that utilizes arch wire attached to adjacent teeth and transfers the desired force by elastic from the wire to the root. However, clinicians often encounter cases where the bonding required for tooth traction is not possible because the adjacent teeth have been restored with ceramic or veneer. The purpose of this case report is to describe a modified orthodontic extrusion appliance that is useful when conventional orthodontic treatment is not possible. The modified appliance was fabricated using an artificial tooth, clear plastic sheeting, and a braided fiber-reinforced composite strip that covered adjacent teeth without bonding. It satisfied the esthetic and functional needs of the patient and established the optimal biologic width.

  • Tooth resorption os perplexing problem for all dental practitioners. The etiology factors and diagnosis are vague, chosen treatment dose not prevent the rapid disappearance of the calcified dental tissues. Since the etiologic factors, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis differ for these various types of resorptive defects, it is important to diagnose resorption radiographically or clinicall and distinguish internal from external resorption. Following these cases are internal root resorption, external root resorption of serious complication subsequent to avulsion and traumatic injury.

  • Forecasting the daily peak load for electricity demand is an important issue for future power plants and power management. We first introduce several time series models to predict the peak load for electricity demand and then compare the performance of models under the RMSE(root mean squared error) and MAPE(mean absolute percentage error) criteria.

  • In the calendar and the advertising catalog, the surface Is usually coated by coating polypropylene film. The delamination failure of coating film depends on surface roughness and quality of the substrate paper. In this paper, the mechanisms of delamination failure between the coating film and the paper is investigated by using the root cause analysis as one of techniques of reliability evaluation. The papers used in failure analysis are three kind products made by two domestic and one foreign companies. It found that the main causes of delamination failure between the coating film and the paper were the creation of microvoids caused by shape of filler and their growth caused by contraction of paper.

  • The corporate culture contributes much to the approach to the management problems as well as to the view to see the problems in the light of the multiplying-enterprise environment. In comparision with the large size corporates, the small-medium size corporates under various disadvantage conditions increase to the high achievement through the development of corporate culture, though the period and method to root in the corporate culture differ from one another depending on the situations. The purpose of this paper is to propose the owner's intention and efforts, the development of the corporate culture helpful for the long-run achievement, the cultural network and the member's role which prove to be effective method to root in the corporate culture.

  • Fusion and gemination are developmental anomalies of teeth that may require endodontic treatment. Fusion may cause various clinical problems related to esthetics, tooth spacing, and other periodontal complications. Additional diagnostic tools are required for the diagnosis and the treatment planning of fused tooth. The present case report describes a case of unilateral fusion of a supernumerary root to an upper permanent central incisor with large periapical lesion in which a conservative approach was used without extraction of supernumerary tooth and obturated with mineral trioxide aggregate to reach a favorable outcome.

  • This study investigates, analyzes, and summarizes Dansplantation techniques and methods through practical methodology centering on fieldwork in order to present effective planting methods for large trees that have important significance. The conclusions are as follows : 1. The transplantation process of a large tree generally consists of the stages of digging up a tree, manufacturing a carrier frame, loading the tee on a vehicle, transporting, transplanting the tree, installing a strut and maintaining and managing the new transplant. In addition, planting a tree on a mounted place includes the primary procedures of trimming out the root, and preparing for transplanting the tree on a mounted place, as well as the secondary work of trimming out the root, transplanting a tree on a mounted place, maintenance and management. 2. In order to decide on a transplantation method for a large-sized tree, a structure calculation has to be performed first. That is, one must calculate the weight of the tree and the allowable stress of the strut (H-beam, etc.) fhst and then decide on the upper method through computer modeling based upon this structural calculation. 3. As a result of the analysis of a transplanted tree using the life soil method, it was confirmed that large quantities of feeder roots had developed around the root within a short time after the transplantation. The life soil method has proven to be very effective for transplantation of large-sized trees. 4. As for the production method of an H-beam strut frame, it was found that the manufacturing process and disassembly process were simple and proper; therefore, the H-beam frame is an appropriate structure to be used in the transplantation of large trees. 5. The concavo-convex method, which consists of filling the life soil in the concavo-convex area around the root, was found to be a method that promotes the growth of feeder roots within a short period of time and saves the supply of water at the same time.
