This essay attempts to read Melville's Moby-Dick as a prefiguration of American pragmatism, especially Jamesian version of it. Underlying this project is the assumption that the American Romance and James's pragmatism partake in the enduring tradition of American thoughts and imagination. Despite the commonality in their roots, the continuity between these two products of American culture has received few critical assessments. The American Romance has rarely been discussed in terms of American pragmatism in part because critics have tended to narrowly define the latter as a kind of relativistic philosophy equivalent to practical instrumentalism, political realism and romantic utilitarianism. Consequently, they have favored literary works in the realistic tradition for their textual analyses, while eschewing a more imaginative genre like the American Romance. My contention is that James's version of pragmatism is a future oriented pluralism which is unable to dispense with the power of imagination and the talent for seeing unforeseen possibilities inherent in nature and culture. James's pragmatism is in tune with the American Romance in that it savours the attractions of alternative possibilities created by the genre in which the imaginary world is imbued with the actual one. The pragmatic impulse in Moby-Dick finds its finest expression in the words and acts of Ishmael. Through this protean narrator, Melville renders the text of Moby-Dick symbolic, fragmentary and thereby pluralistic in its meaning. With his rhetoric of incompletion and by refraining from totalizing what he experiences, Ishmael shuns finality in truth and entices the reader to join his intellectual journey with a non-foundational notion of truth and meaning in view. Ishmael also envisages pragmatists' beliefs that experience is fluid in nature and the universe is in a constant state of becoming. Yet Ishmael as the narrator of Moby-Dick is more functional than foundational.

세계 각지에서 다문화로 인한 여러 가지 문제가 발생하면서 다문화주의에 대한 부정적 인식이 대두되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 다문화주의를 가치 지향적인 사조로 견지해야 하는 까닭은 다문화가 자유민주주의 시장경제 체제의 필연적인 현상이기에 분리할 수 없고 섣부른 다문화주의의 퇴조는 반인륜적 배타적 민족주의로 퇴행할 가능성이 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 사회에서 다문화주의의 가치가 왜곡되는 기저에 사회 구성원들의 인식에 영향을 미치는 담론의 요소로서 로맨스 영화의 신화가 존재한다고 가정한다. 로맨스영화의 스토리텔링 구조는 원질서사에 입각해 궁정식 사랑을 모티브로 취하며 서사 전략적 차원에서 시련으로 치환되는 다문화는 다문화주의의 의미를 왜곡시킨다. 로맨스 영화의 캐릭터는 피상적 이미지와 명시적 의미 위주로 구성되는 경향이 있는데 이 과정에서 마이너리티가 위계화 되고 주변부로 밀려난 또 다른 마이너리티는 담론에서 배제된다. 로맨스를 통해 타자에 대한 관용을 도모하려는 시도는 이항대립적 구조속에 유폐되고 종국에 상투적인 결말로 인해 와해된다.

Gloria Naylor's second novel Linden Hills (1985) explores the issues of self-exploration, empowerment, history, and memory by delineating the communal and familial tragedies and the distortion of values prevalent in a prosperous African-American urban community called Linden Hills. Drawing upon the Freud's concept of "primal scene" and "family romance," this paper aims to focus upon the Nedeed family, the founder of Linden Hills, and investigate the compelling traumatogenic force within the family, which is inseparably intertwined with the inversion of values and moral corruption permeating the entire community. The "primal crime" committed by the Nedeed ancestors serves to preserve and perpetuate a tyrannical rule by ruthless patriarchs who reign by underhanded strategies of purposefully neglecting and abusing others, including their own wives. The imprisonment, by Luther Nedeed, of his wife Willa in the family morgue epitomizes the long legacy running in the family-the oppression and burial of the pre-Oedipal, maternal history. Willa's accidental encounter, at the nadir of the family estate and her personal despair, with the faded records of the forgotten and abused Nedeed women exposes the violence-ridden ground of the family's primal scene and the absurdity of family romance the Nedeeds pursued. As the several lines of poem composed by Willie, Willa's male double, show, the hidden, forgotten history of the Nedeed women, in a sense, is the real, which cannot be assimilated to the social symbolic governed by the inhumane patriarchy of the Nedeed family and the success-oriented Linden Hills society. By portraying a catastrophic downfall of the Nedeed family and the futile outcome of its family romance, the ending of Linden Hills conveys implicitly that the contingent symbolic order and its oppressive control, however solid and invincible they may seem, can be toppled down by the real, its nameless forgotten Other.

To explore effects on each friendship, family, romance, and community in sub-variables of loneliness on academic achievement in science for Y-middle school students, multiple regression analysis is carried out by stepwise method. As the results, I found the following facts. Academic achievement in science for the students was expressed by the following equation. Academic Achievement=48.765+4.012${\times}$[Family](t=2.082, p=.039)-3.957${\times}$[Romance](t=-3.147, p=.002)+5.281${\times}$[Community](t=2.965, p=.003). And each variable value of the explanatory power affecting academic achievement in science for the students is presented in order of community (12.0%), family (6.6%), and romance (6.3%). But the friendship variable is not significant in affecting academic achievement in science.

이 연구는 익숙한 장르 문법이나 코드 활용이 자유로운 대중문화콘텐츠의 특성이 반영된 웹소설, 특히 로맨스판타지 장르의 '책빙의물'의 특성에 주목하였다. 주인공이 자신이 현실세계에서 읽은 작품 속으로 들어가는 상상력은 웹소설의 기존 장르문법을 재해석한 것으로, 이 모티프를 연구하는 것은 장르 내 상호텍스트성 검토에 유의미하다. 로맨스 판타지 장르에서 책빙의물은 일반 판타지 장르(퓨전판타지, 현대판타지 등)와 차이점을 보이는데, 장르의 젠더적 특성을 드러내는 데도 이 연구의 목적을 들 수 있다. 이 연구는 책빙의물이 기존 서사에 대한 상호텍스트적 해석에서 탄생되었으며, 따라서 차원이동, 회귀, 대체역사물과 친연성을 갖는다고 보았으며, 팬픽션의 글쓰기 규범을 참고했다고 보았다. 이를 통해 앞으로 기존 서사의 재조합과 장르 간 간섭이 지속될 것을 예측할 수 있었다. 다음으로 로맨스판타지 장르에서의 책빙의물은 주변인이 주인공이 되어 서사를 전복함에도 상당히 보수적이고 자기계발적인 논리를 드러낸다고 보았다. 등장인물들은 현실세계의 미래지식을 활용해 파멸이 예언된 생존세계에서 투쟁해야 한다. 윤리적이고 자조(self-help)적인 주체의 등장은 흥미롭지만, 한편으로 로맨스가 인물들의 생존과 성취의 한 방식이라는 점에서 보수성을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이 연구는 로맨스판타지 장르에서 상당히 빠르게 시작된 책빙의물의 특성을 검토하고 그 등장배경과 특성을 검토했다는 점에서 연구의의를 갖는다. 물리적인 작품 수합에 한계가 있고, 플랫폼이 한정되었다는 한계가 있었다. 위의 한계는 추후 등장하는 작품들을 좀 더 검토하며 보완하고자 한다.

페르소나는 다양한 연기 경험을 통해 구축된 배우의 외적 자아이자 수용자의 눈에 비친 또 다른 자화상이다. 본 연구는 '멜로 퀸'으로 불리는 톱스타 배우 손예진의 페르소나 정체성과 지배적 구성체인 코어 페르소나(CP)를 분석하고, CP가 수용자들의 작품 반응과 관계 면에서 일치하는지 검증함으로써 배우의 성장 전략에 대한 함의점을 얻기 위해 실시됐다. 관련 이론과 모델에 따라 먼저 페르소나 구성 요소를 이미지, 가시성, 성품, 일관성으로 세분화해 내용 분석 방법에 따라 국내 6대 종합 일간지의 최근 5년간 손예진 관련 분석 기사 텍스트를 표본으로 묘사 어휘를 추출·분류했다. 그 뒤 수용자의 반응, 즉 주연한 영화의 관객 수 등과 드라마의 시청점유율을 각각 장르별로 분석했다. 그 결과 손예진의 페르소나 정체성은 이미지(54.2% 멜로·로맨스 34.0%, 비(非)멜로·로맨스 20.2%), 가시성(25.6%), 일관성(13.8%), 성품(6.4%)의 비중으로, CP는 '멜로·로맨스 이미지'로 각각 도출됐다. CP를 수용자 반응과 비교 분석한 결과, 드라마에서는 멜로·로맨스 장르가 우위를 보여 양 변인 간의 정합성이 확인됐지만 영화의 경우 오히려 비멜로·로맨스가 우위를 나타내 일치하지 않았다. 이런 불일치는 드라마와 영화는 주시청층, 흥행 요인, 혼종성과 실험성 정도에서 크게 달라 비롯된 것으로 추론됐다. 따라서 연구 결과는 손예진의 경우 앞으로 드라마에선 자신의 CP를 적극 활용해도 무방하나 영화에서는 다채로운 배역에 도전해 페르소나의 스펙트럼을 넓히는 짜임새 있는 성장 전략을 구사할 필요가 있다는 점을 암시한다.

나관중의 소설 삼국지에 등장하는 인물들에 대한 인간관계 네트워크를 구축하고 분석한 결과, 실제 사회 인간관계 및 사회 네트워크의 특성과 마찬가지로 척도 없는 네트워크 및 계층적 네트워크의 특성을 보여주었다. 지금까지 대부분 네트워크에 관한 연구는 정적인 측면을 중심으로 이루어졌다. 왜냐하면, 네트워크는 고정되어 있는 것이 아니라 시간 및 공간에 따라 다양하게 변화함에도 불구하고 동적인 면을 분석하기 위한 데이터가 충분하지 않기 때문이다. 소설 삼국지는 비교적 짧은 역사 속에서 다양한 등장인물(1,119 노드)과 인물들의 이합집산에 의한 다양한 인간관계(3,604 링크) 연결망을 형성하고 있기 때문에 시간에 따른 동적 네트워크의 분석을 위한 좋은 모델이 될 것이다. 본 연구는 시대적으로 형성되는 네트워크 특성을 분석하고, 주요 등장인물들의 상관관계와 등장인물의 가중치를 분석하여 연결망의 동역학적 특성을 살펴보았다. 따라서 본 연구는 실제 인간관계 및 사회 네트워크나 생명체를 구성하고 있는 분자들의 네트워크에 관한 동역학적 특성을 분석할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

본 논문의 목적은 콘텐츠 구성의 핵심적 원리 가운데 하나인 서사의 의미에 대해 차이와 욕망의 개념을 중심으로 설명하는 것이다. 서사를 설명하는 여러 가지 관점들 가운데 차이의 개념도 매우 중요하다. 인물의 차이와 현실의 차이를 통해서 서사의 진행을 파악하는 관점들은 고전적인 미학에 속한다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 본 논문은 구조주의적인 관점에서 특히 서사의 사건과 행위의 차이가 서사가 성립될 수 있도록 하는 기본적인 요인으로 간주하였다. 또한 이러한 차이는 미디어학적인 관점과 정신분석학적인 관점에서 파악될 수 있다. 즉, 미디어의 우연성(contingency)과 정신분석학의 욕망은 서사 사건과 행위의 차이가 서사의 조건임을 입증하는 개념이라고 할 수 있다. 본 논문은 또한 최근 많은 주목을 받은 영화 <로맨스조>를 해석하면서 욕망을 증폭시키기 위한 차이의 형성이 서사에서 중요한 요인으로 작용한다는 점을 논증하고자 하였다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for cultural and artistic products such as musicals, just as for general consumer goods, through a case study on the distribution strategy for a musical title. In addition, a distribution strategy for cultural and artistic products is proposed based on the analysis of the case. Research design, data, and methodology: Qualitative research methods, such as case study research and in-depth interviews, were used in this study. Results: The case study of the Korean musical Myeongdong Romance confirmed that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for musicals, including performances at theaters, Naver TV screenings (a service linked to an Internet portal), LGU+ screenings (an IPTV and OTT media service), DVD releases, and screenings of recordings of Romance Hall performances. Conclusion: For cultural and artistic products such as musicals, distribution channels can be diversified to incorporate the simultaneous use of multiple channels. New cases involving other cultural and artistic products and services to which this distribution strategy is applicable may be identified, and the strategy may be implemented along with new technologies to reduce costs further.
