  • Datacommunications transmit the source codes that are coded in information devices, such as computer to the transmission line by means of the line coded signal. AMI method is applied to the line coding method to transmit the signal for long distance. The disadvantage of the AMI method is to loss the bit synchronization when consecutive binary bit '0' over 4ea is coming into line coder. The scrambling technique is used to overcome the problem. The HDB-3 scrambling method is used in Korea standard which standard in ITU-T. When the HDB-3 technology is used. the method should convert the consecutive bit '0' over 4ea to certain bits format. As a result, when there are many such kind of '0' bit stream in source codes, data transmission efficiency will be decreased to treat in line coder, etc. This paper is directed to study the Roman character code system in $KS{\times}1001$, Korea standard for information exchange code in datacommunication systems. Based on the study result, this paper proposed the maximum optimized Roman character code system. In the study, Character coding rule for $4{\times}4$bits and the statistical data for roman character using frequency were considered to simulate. The paper shows the result that when the proposed new roman character coding system is applied to use, the data transmission efficiency could be increased to about 134% compared to existing code system.

  • The Greek theater was the first one which was built artificially and the Roman theater was erected as creative form following the Greek theater The style of these ancient theaters has influenced modern theater. In terms of the purpose and function of the theater, the Greek was derived from religious purpose but the Roman was derived for amusement. We can observe several differences in comparing the Greek with the Roman theater. In the shape of the theater, the Greek theater was dignified and grand and had an open-air structure, but the Roman theater was splendid and ornamental and had a roof over the stage. In the character of the theater, the Greek theater was democratic but the Roman theater was partial. The Greek and Roman theaters have became one source of the modern theater as the Greek and Roman plays have became the source of the modern play, although there are several differences according to the social and dramatic characters.

  • This study investigates the garden vision of the Ancient Rome, focusing on garden literature in the Natural History by Pliny the Elder. Ancient Roman garden's types, character, and forms greatly influenced the development of later Western gardens, to which the practical and professional texts of Pliny the Elder and others contributed. This study explores the garden visions projected in these texts, with an introduction of Roman garden forms and stylistic features. The Natural History and other garden and agricultural texts written during the Ancient Roman period are characterized by their focus on practical production spaces rather than abstract nature or garden art. In the Natural History, Pliny described botanics in terms of usefulness rather than pleasure, and his discussion is premised on the practical hortus. In ancient Roman society, gardens were not only spaces for practical production and relaxation, and places to reproduce or realize the ideals of Roman rulers and intellectuals, including Pliny. They shared the episteme that sought to encompass knowledge of the entire world they ruled and, in doing so, realize their vision of the Roman Empire. Through the Natural History, Pliny sought to embrace useful knowledges of his time into the vast civilized world of the Roman Empire, and the garden was an important place to practice this ideal.

  • This study has a research objective to suggest detailed rules and principles to transcribe geographical names in English for English version electronic map service. For this, guidelines which are used in English transcription of local geographical names in Korea and English transcription situations of Korea geographical names in foreign electronic map service were examined. Examining results of current situations showed the English transcription method of home and abroad geographical names caused the chaos because it is not homogenized. In order to identify easy and preferred transcription method for foreigners among English transcription methods about the geographical names which are used together like this, the preference of English transcription methods of the geographical names was examined targeting foreigners. Survey results showed that foreigners prefer to transcribe in Roman character (Romanization) with its semantic word together than just to transcribe the Roman character. Reflecting this preference research results, our country's geographical names were classified as Natural features, Cultural features and man-made structures, and Administrative units and the detailed English transcription rules and principles of each geographical names were suggested.

  • This paper proposes the revised Roman character code system using Unicode 3.0. The background of the paper is whether the Latin character code system th using in the world in Unicode V.3 is proper or not in the side of the transmission efficiency in data communications. In data communications, when the consecutive 4 bits or 8 bits of "0" bit from the information devices input into the line coder, its consecutive "0" bits are scrambled to the predetermined bit patterns to avoid the syncronization loss. The paper was based on the statistical data for the using frequency of the alphabet letter and the proposed rule for characters coding in [1]. The paper was focused to improve of Unicode itself and UTF-8 code system. As a result of the paper, when the proposed coding systems for Latin character in Unicode 3.0 itself and UTF-8 code system, the scrambler efficiency using HDB-3 in the line coder of the data transmission system could be improved about 3645 ~ 31400% and 480 ~ 1700% respectively.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the villus distribution in the caeca of domestic geese based on the fine structure. The caeca of White Roman geese, 14-week old, were sampled and specimens were detected under photomicroscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that the villi existed at the proximal caecum. The morphologies of these villi showed finger-like, peak-like or tongue-like shapes. The heights of the villi decreased far from the proximal caecum. No villi were found in the middle and distal caecum. It was obvious that the proximal segment was the main portion for absorbing food nutrients in the caeca. The caecal content particles were small and possessed a viscid character. The large particles filtered out at the proximal caecum just like a mesh. The surface of the middle caecum exhibited parallel ridges with no villi. There were band plicae circular shapes found in the middle caecum under scanning electron microsopy.

  • The ratio of roles, involving characters created by 2D or 3D Graphic Technology, has risen within games, recent animations, movies and the educational sector. However, the "monster character" appears mainly in "Shanghai Ching" and Greek and Roman mythology. To receive worldwide accolade, it is time that we should use our games, movies and animations to present the history and spirit of Korea. I researched Korean myths so as to understand the characteristics a "Korean monster" would need to portray. This also allowed me to visualise the monster and realize the necessary manufacturing processes involved.

  • The purpose of this study was to research buying behavior and home fashion preferences based on housing size. The target consumers were Korean women, aged 20~40s who reside in the Seoul & Kyunggido areas. We distributed questionnaires to 650 women. However, only 600 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. Data analyses were conducted with SPSS program on the frequency, Chi-square test, cluster analysis, t-test and ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The considering factors for purchasing such as brand, trends coordinating existing furnishings with new products and functionality were significantly associated with housing size. The buyers who reside in bigger size homes. over 40 pyung place higher value on brand name, trends. or coordinating existing furnishing with new products than residents in smaller units. However, women who live in smaller units place higher value on functionality when purchasing home fashion products. Considering factors such as brand, trend, and materials were also significantly associated with segmented age group; 40~49 age group considered brand, trend, and materials more than 20~29 age group. The group who are highly interested in home fashion considered design/color, rand, coordination, and functionality than the group who are low interested in home fashion. 2. Residents in over 40 pyung homes buy home fashion products at department stores, while residents in less than 39 pyung homes buy them at discounted store. 3. Respondents preferred solid colors more than patterns. However, they favored character pattern for textile bedding products for their children. 4. there is also a statistical difference in preferences for types of window treatments between large ad small housing sizes. Residents living in over 40 pyung preferred tie-back/cottage curtain, while residents living in less than 29 pyung preferred Roman shade style.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the metatheatricality of Harris' plays marked by the device of 'play-within-a-play' - Androcles and the Lion, Arkansaw Bear, and Punch and Judy. In his metatheatrical plays Harris shows that characters perform for themselves and others. The framework that inner performance is going on within the outer frame play is formed on the stage, and this device reminds the audience in the seats that they are representing reality but that they are only in the middle of performing on the stage. Based on this point of view, this study explores fictionality of character, and play. In Androcles and the Lion, the most-performed children's play in America, the metatheatrical elements are shown in the style of commedia dell'arte, which attacks the rigidity of characters' identity in the Roman society. Another well-known children's play, Arkansaw Bear consists of realistic frame play and fantastic inner play in the mind of a girl, both of which function as a mirror each other and help to sustain aesthetic distance to death and reality on the stage. In Punch and Judy, the structure of frame play and inner puppet play reminds that what's going on in the play is just a fictional play and reflects history of children's puppet show. Harris' unique metatheatricality, the heightened awareness of his own artistic medium, offers children educational opportunity to learn about how a play is performed on the stage and contributes to convey mature theme through children's imaginary participation in the process of playmaking on the stage.
