When ironwork, especially steel roll coil, is transported to customers, land transportation and sea transportation are usually used. To transport steel roll coil fast and safe without damaging it, it is necessary that the steel roll coil has to be in stable condition. These days, apitong, which is all imported from overseas, is being used to support the steel roll coil, but because of apitong's rigidity, it damages the coil and when the coil is damaged, it is hard to fix. Due to the fact that recovering damage of the coil is almost impossible, we have to find the new type of dunnage that can substitute the apitong. In this paper, the arrays and the kinds of reinforcements, and rectangular type and trapezoid of dunnage will be talked about. The phenomenon of rolling and the impact when the carrier start moving and stop will be talked about as well. Therefore, we are going to develop a dunnage that does not damage ironwork and has better recovery and softness than existing apitong dunnage.

The use of a high gain flight control system to achieve high bandwidth performance increase the instability of a helicopter. To investigate these phenomena numerically, high fidelity EC155B1 helicopter model and simplified flight control system that include actuator, digital processor and noise rejection filter was developed. A study conducts an analytical investigation of roll axis stability of the helicopter model as feedback gain increases. And this study analyzes roll-rate and roll-attitude feedback gains limited by rotor flap mode. The results indicate that the phase delays caused by the filter can severely limit the usable values of the roll-rate and roll-attitude feedback gains.

In this study, a Volterra system for the variations of metacentric height (GM) in waves is employed to simulate the parametric roll phenomena of ships in head sea condition. Using the present Volterra system, the transfer function of each harmonic component in the GM variation is computed for different ship models, including mathematical models and a real containership, and the results are validated through the comparison with the values obtained using the direct calculations based on a weakly nonlinear time-domain method. Then, a semi-analytic approach employing a 1-degree of freedom equation for roll motion is developed to simulate the parametric roll motions in irregular waves. In the derived approach, the nonlinear and time-varying restoring forces in the waves are approximated using the Volterra system. Through simulations of the parametric roll for different sea states, the effects of the 1st and 2nd-order harmonic components of the variations in the occurrence and amplitude of the parametric roll motions are investigated. Because of the strong nonlinearities in the phenomena, a stochastic analysis is conducted to examine the statistical properties of the roll motions in consideration of the sensitivities and uncertainties in the computations.
Recently, the Sub-Committee on SDC (Ship Design and Construction) of IMO have discussed actively the technical issues associated with the second-generation intact stability criteria of ships. Generally, second generation intact stability criteria refer to vulnerability five modes ship stability which occurs when the ship navigating in rough seas. As waves passes the ship, dynamic roll motion phenomenon will affect ship stability that may lead to capsizing. Multi-tiered approach for second generation of intact stability criteria of IMO instruments covers apply for all ships. Each ship is checked for vulnerability to pure loss of stability, parametric roll, and broaching/surf-riding phenomena using L1(level 1) vulnerability criteria. If a possible vulnerability is detected, then the L2(level 2) criteria is used, followed by direct stability assessment, if necessary. In this study, we propose a new method to verify the criteria of the surf-riding/broaching mode of small ships. In case, L1 vulnerability criteria is not satisfied based on the relatively simple calculation using the Froude number, we presented the calculation code for the L2 criteria considering the hydrodynamics in waves to perform the more complicated calculation. Then the vulnerability criteria were reviewed based on the data for a given ship. The value of C, which is the probability of the vulnerability criteria for surf-riding/broaching, was calculated. The criteria value C is considered in new approach method using the Froude-Krylov force and the diffraction force. The result shows lower values when considering both the Froude-rylov force and the diffraction force than with only the Froude-Krylov force was considered. This difference means that when dynamic roll motion of ship, more exact wave force needs considered for second generation intact stability criteria This result will contribute to basic ship design process according to the IMO Second-Generation Intact Stability Criteria.

In this paper, the effect of Lorentz force on the stability of attitude orientation of a charged spacecraft moving in an elliptic orbit in the geomagnetic field is considered. Euler equations are used to derive the equations of attitude motion of a charged spacecraft. The equilibrium positions and its stability are investigated separately in the pitch, roll and yaw directions. In each direction, we use the Lorentz force to identify an attitude stabilization parameter. The analytical methods confirm that we can use the Lorentz force as a stabilization method. The charge-to-mass ratio is the main key of control, in addition to the components of the radius vector of the charged center of the spacecraft, relative to the center of mass of the spacecraft. The numerical results determine stable and unstable equilibrium positions. Therefore, in order to generate optimum charge, which may stabilize the attitude motion of a spacecraft, the amount of charge on the surface of spacecraft will need to be monitored for passive control.

In this paper, a design method of nonlinear autopilot for ship-to-ship missiles is proposed. Ship-to-ship missiles have strongly coupled dynamics through roll, yaw, and pitch channel in comparison with general STT type missiles. Thus it becomes difficult to employ previous control design method directly since we should find three different solutions for each control fin deflection and should verify the stability for more complicated dynamics. In this study, we first propose a control loop structure for roll, yaw, and pitch autopilot which can determine the required angles of all three control fins. For yaw and pitch autopilot design, missile model is reduced to a minimum phase model by applying a singular perturbation like technique to the yaw and pitch dynamics. Based on this model, a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear autopilot is designed. And the stability is analyzed considering roll influences on dynamic couplings of yaw and pitch channel as well as the aerodynamic couplings. Some additional issues on the autopilot implementation for these coupled missile dynamics are discussed. Lastly, 6-DOF (degree of freedom) numerical simulation results are presented to verify the proposed method.
Bi-stable structure can be stable in both its extended and coiled forms. For the un-stressed thin cylindrical shell, the strain energy expressions are deduced by using a theoretical model in terms of only two parameters. Based on the principle of minimum potential energy, the bi-stable behaviors of the cylindrical shells are investigated. The results indicate that the isotropic cylindrical shell does not have the second stable configuration and laminated cylindrical shells with symmetric or antisymmetric layup of fibers have the second stable state under some confined conditions. In the case of antisymmetric laminated cylindrical shell, the analytical expressions of the stability are derived based on the extremal principle, and the shell can achieve a compact coiled configuration without twist deformation in its second stable state. In the case of symmetric laminated cylindrical shell, the explicit solutions for the stability conditions cannot be deduced. Numerical results show that stable configuration of symmetric shell is difficult to achieve and symmetric shell has twist deformation in its second stable form. In addition, the roll-up radii of the antisymmetric laminated cylindrical shells are calculated using the finite element package ABAQUS. The results show that the value of the roll-up radii is larger from FE simulation than from theoretical analysis. By and large, the predicted roll-up radii of the cylindrical shells using ABAQUS agree well with the theoretical results.

The T-50 advanced supersonic jet trainer employs the Relaxed Static Stability (RSS) concept to improve the aerodynamic performance while the flight control system stabilizes the unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. The T-50 flight control laws employ a proportional-plus-integral type controller based on a dynamic inversion method in longitudinal axis and a proportional type controller based on a blended roll system with simple roll rate feedback and beta-betadot feedback system. These control laws are verified by flight tests with various maneuver set flight envelopes and the control laws are updated to resolve flight test issues. This paper describes several concepts of flight control laws used in T-50 to resolve those flight test issues. Control laws for solving the roll-off problem during pitch maneuver in asymmetric loading configurations, improving the departure resistance in negative angle of attack conditions and enhancing the fine tracking performance in air-to-air tracking maneuvers are described with flight test data.
In South Korea, to evaluate the rollover safety of domestic vehicles, the maximum slope angle of the vehicle is specified, which is verified by the rollover safety test of driving vehicles. However, the domestic rollover safety test is not suitable for buses, because the small amount of static stability factor (SSF) will invalidate the rollover experimental equation due to the high center of mass position of buses. To solve the above problems, a dynamic model of the bus is prepared with assumptions of mass and suspension spring properties. Subsequently, the maximum slope angle of the model was computed by using the simulation of multi-body dynamics, and the result was compared with actual test results to validate the dynamics model. Also, the rollover Fishhook (roll stability) test was conducted in the simulation for driving model. During the simulation, roll angle and roll rate were calculated to check if a rollover occurred. Through the rollover simulation of buses, the domestically regulated formula for rollover safety and the procedure of rollover test for driving vehicles are evaluated. The conclusion is that the present regulation of rollover test should be reconsidered for buses to ensure to get the valid results for rollover safety.

To have high flatness quality of hot rolled strip in the hot strip finishing mill train, a new inter-stand tension profile measuring device of segmented looper roll type(coined as Flatness Sensing Inter-stand Looper, FlatSIL) and a new flatness control system have been developed in this study. The device measures the strip tension profile across the strip width and informs the strip wave pattern to new flatness control system where work roll bending mode to relieve the strip wave is determined. The existing automatic shape control system which uses laser type shape-meter installed at the outlet of the last finishing mill stand strip tension between down coiler and last finishig mill since the latent wave concealed by the strip tension between down coiler and last finishing mill stand cannot be measured by the laser distance-meter. Thus the existing shape control system is not able to control the flatness through the full strip length. The new flatness control system, however, works for full strip length during strip rolling as far as the tension profile measuring device and work roll bender are on. With the new flatness control system, work roll bender is automatically controller to minimize the latent wave of the running strip and the flatness quality as well as strip travelling stability has been noticeably improved from strip head through body to tail.
