  • This paper presents a new methodology for business process simulation modeling and analysis based on role-oriented modeling concept. The proposed methodology allows for tracking people and their roles affected by reengineering the business process. It enables one to analyze and evaluate not only work flow, but roles that are part of the flow. A simulator based on this methodology is developed to systematically construct simulation models and conduct simulations easily and efficiently.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sex role stereotypes and delinquency, and determine if it is mediated by stigma. The data was taken from the fourth wave of the 2010 Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS), which was administered by the Korea Youth Policy Institute. The major findings are as follows: First, sex role stereotypes were found to increase stigma and delinquency. Second, the relationship between sex role stereotypes and delinquency is mediated by stigma. Third, the results revealed that there was a significant gender difference in mediating models. As for the female participants, stigma had a mediating effect in the relationship between sex role stereotyping and delinquency. In contrast, for the male participants, the mediating effect of stigma was found to be insignificant. Based on these results, this research suggested that delinquency prevention programs need improvement considering gender difference and sex role stereotypes.

  • Autophagy is critical for the maintenance of organelle function and intracellular nutrient environment. Autophagy is also involved in systemic metabolic homeostasis, and its dysregulation can lead to or accelerate the development of metabolic disorders. While the role of autophagy in the global metabolism of model organisms has been investigated mostly using site-specific genetic knockout technology, the impact of dysregulated autophagy on systemic metabolism has been unclear. Here, we review recent papers showing the role of autophagy in systemic metabolism and in the development of metabolic disorders. Also included are data suggesting the role of autophagy in human-type diabetes, which are different in several key aspects from murine models of diabetes. The results shown here support the view that autophagy modulation could be a new modality for the treatment of metabolic syndrome associated with lipid overload and human-type diabetes.

  • In an ubiquitous environment, for controlling user access according to environment of users, a number of access control models enforcing dynamic environment of users have been proposed. However, they do not support personalized environments of each user and have a run-time overhead of searching active roles. In this paper, we propose a new model, PE-RBAC, that extends the RBAC architecture by addition of a personalized environment component as a constraint to accommodate dynamic and mobile users. In this model, a dynamic role activation is presented by using a new role-to-environment structure instead of the conventional role hierarchy, which makes it efficient to find the active roles according to a user's personalized environment.

  • The teat number of a sow plays an important role for weaning pigs and has been utilized in selection of swine breeding stock. Various linear models have been employed for genetic analyses of teat number although the teat number can be considered as a count trait. Theoretically, Poisson error mixed models are more appropriate for count traits than Normal error mixed models. In this study, the two models were compared by analyzing data simulated with Poisson error. Considering the mean square errors and correlation coefficients between observed and fitted values, the Poisson generalized linear mixed model (PGLMM) fit the data better than the Normal error mixed model. Also these two models were applied to analyzing teat numbers in four breeds of swine (Landrace, Yorkshire, crossbred of Landrace and Yorkshire, crossbred of Landrace, Yorkshire, and Chinese indigenous Min pig) collected in China. However, when analyzed with the field data, the Normal error mixed model, on the contrary, fit better for all the breeds than the PGLMM. The results from both simulated and field data indicate that teat numbers of swine might not have variance equal to mean and thus not have a Poisson distribution.

  • Since UV-B radiation measuring networks have not been established, numerical models which calculate the flux from other readily available meteorological measurements may play an important role. That is, such a problem can be solved by using parameterization models such as two stream approximation, the delta-Eddington method, doubling method, and discrete ordinate method. However, most UV-B radiative transfer models have not been validated with measurements, because such models are not intended as practical computational schemes for providing surface estimates of UV-B radiation. The main concern so far has been to demonstrate model sensitivity for cloudless skies. In particular, few have been concerned with real cloud information. Clouds and aerosols have generally been incorporated as constituents of particular atmospheric layers with specified optical depths and scattering properties. The parameterization model presented here is a combination of a detailed radiative transfer algorithm for a coludless sky radiative process and a more approximate scheme to handle cloud effects. The model input data requires a daily measurement of the total ozone amount plus a daily record of the amount and type of cloud in the atmosphere. Measurements for an examination of the models at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Pusan National University have been takenfrom February, 1995. These models can be used to calculate present and future fluxes where measurements have not been taken, and construct climatologies for the period before ozone depletion began.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate an appropriate instructional model in order to remedy students' misconception. As hypotheses of this study, three instructional models, cognitive conflicting, hypothesis testing, and learning cycle models, on biological 'osmosis' concept were tested in 176 high school students. Results of the present study are as follows: 1. All groups used one of three instructional models showed a statistically significant improvement in conceptual change on the 'osmosis' concept between before and after the instruction. In addition, the three hypothesized instructional models were more effective in conceptual change than a traditional expository instruction. 2. There was a statistically significant difference among three experimental groups. Cognitive conflicting model and hypothesis testing model was more effective than learning cycle models. 3. An interviewing after instruction showed that students who had scientific concept on the 'osmosis' through the instruction could effectively apply the concept to other context more than students who had no scientific concept through instruction. The present study indicated that instructional model play an important role on students' conceptual change in science classroom. According to the result of this study, the instruction emphasizing students' active participation in class and scientific reasoning process is more appropriate to remedy misconception that the instruction using students' passive participation in class and expository teaching procedure. This study also indicated that students' concept acquired through instruction is one of important factors to apply it to other context.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the visual evaluation structure about the formal changes of streetscape by the different moving speed in two alternative control plans for the building height and the setback regulation. The virtual reality system is applied to the experimental tool. Eighty-two experimental models are made in consideration of the height and the setback of the building regulation cased by Midou-suji street in Osaka City, Japan. and ten typical models are selected by pre-experiment. Since the changes of the landscape structure consists of the height and the setback of the building, four the evaluation items are set: grade of continuity, order, openness, preference. As there are eighty-two landscape models which are too many to be applied in this experiment, ten role models are drawn out and used in this experiment. The mean difference test, discriminant analysis, and multiple linear regression methods had been used for the statistical analysis methods. The results of this study are as follows; 1) It is found out the fact of the difference evaluation structure amount experiments models. 2) From the sketch analysis and interview, it is found out difference cognition structure by the moving speed and alternatives. 3) From the discriminant and regression analysis, it is found out that the evaluation value about continuity becomes low by the moving speed change from walking speed to driving speed. We suggest that continuous experiment should be made with a variety of groups and models, and general and universal results should also be come out of the experiments above.

  • [Purpose] Exercise is thought to have a significant effect on chemotherapy, and previous studies have reported that exercise can increase patient survival. Thus, in this review, we aimed to summarize various animal models to analyze the effects of exercise on breast cancer. [Methods] We summarized types of breast cancer animal models from various reports and analyzed the effects of exercise on anti-cancer factors in breast cancer animal models. [Results] This review aimed to systematically investigate if exercise could aid in suppressing breast cancer. Our study includes (a) increase in survival rate through exercise; (b) the intensity of exercise should be consistent and increased; (c) a mechanism for inhibiting carcinogenesis through exercise; (d) effects of exercise on anti-cancer function. [Conclusion] This review suggested the necessity of a variety of animal models for preclinical studies prior to breast cancer clinical trials. It also provides evidence to support the view that exercise plays an important role in the prevention or treatment of breast cancer by influencing anticancer factors.
