  • An unsteady internal ballistic performance model was proposed to take account for the variance of local regression rate along the grain port of a hybrid rocket combustor. The characteristic parameters of hybrid rocket motor was investigated. The performance model of concern in the study was fairly comparable with the test result. The combustion coefficients and local burning characteristics of a hybrid rocket motor were evaluated. The local variation of the oxidizer mass flow rate results in the changes of local regression rate, pressure, temperature, and gas velocity to flow direction, which was analyzed quantitatively.

  • Some propellants in a liquid rocket engine are burned in the pre-burner of a staged combustion cycle engine, resulting hot gas drives the turbine. The burned gas passing through the turbine is supplied to the combustor at high temperature and pressure. The form of the gas can be fuel rich or oxidizer rich dependent upon the mixture ratio or the engine scheme. When the cycle works at oxidizer-rich condition, the metal pipes composing the engine can be ignited or even exploded by an impact of very a small particle. In this study, we developed the powder combination and processes for an anti-oxidation coating through the analysis of various coating materials.

  • To develop liquid propulsion engine, the development of combustion chamber must be preceded. For performance validation of the combustion chamber, the designed and manufactured combustion chamber should be tested in combustion chamber test facility (CCTF). The CCTF is the test facility to develop the combustor of rocket engine, which uses liquid oxygen as a oxidizer and kerosene as a fuel. Present paper introduces the detailed design results of compressed gas supply system of CCTF, which is planned to be installed at Naro Space Center.

  • Development cases of space launch vehicle upper stage engine were studied. HM-7, Vinci, LE-5, RL10 engines are representative upper stage engines of Europe, Japan, and United States. It was realized that upper stage engines were developed with more than two engine test facilities and the development period was 5 to 8 years accompanied with 10~11 engines.

  • This study suggests manufacturing and cleaning the feeding system of hydrogen peroxide to use oxidizer of liquid rocket. We established the process of cleaning and passivation in order to minimize the pollution of Hydrogen Peroxide feeding system. And, we verified stability of the manufactured feeding system by leak test & hot test.

  • Fast cook-off test with rocket motors was performed and characteristics of the results were analyzed. The material of the motor case was carbon epoxy composite. The motor was loaded with HTPE propellants to improve the insensitive munitions characteristics. In the tests, sound pressure and heat flux sensors were used to determine the category of response according to the standard. The reaction response of all of the HTPE motors tested by fast cook-off was judged as Type V burning.

  • This paper describes a general design procedure of regenerative cooling system for liquid rocket engine(LRE). From this design logic, cooling channels are designed and fabricated. The measured heat flux from firing test is similar to the heat flux predicted by design logic. Therefore, proposed design procedure of cooling channel can be applied to real LRE system. Also the result of firing test indicates that soot from combustion products have strong influence on the cooling characteristics of LRE.

  • The optimal design and combustion analysis of the gas generator for Liquid Rocket Engine (LRE) were performed. A fuel-rich gas generator in open cycle turbopump system was designed for 10ton$_{f}$ in thrust with RP-1/Lox propellant. The optimal design was done for maximizing specific impulse of main combustion chamber with constraints of combustion temperature and power matching required by turbopump system. Design variables were selected as total mass flow rate to gas generator, O/F ratio in gas generator, turbine injection angle, partial admission ratio, and turbine rotational speed. Results of optimal design show the dimension of length, diameter, and contraction ratio of gas generator. Also, the combustion test was conducted to evaluate the performance of injector and combustion chamber. And the effect of the turbulence ring was investigated on the mixing enhancement in the chamber.r.
