Rotational machines such as optical disk drives, hard disk drives, and so on are subject to periodic disturbances caused by their mechanical characteristics. In the meanwhile, it is well known that repetitive control rejects periodic disturbance effectively. This paper presents a practical application of repetitive control to the track-following servo of an optical disk drive. The repetitive control system is composed of two repetitive controllers which compensate for periodic disturbances generated by track geometry and eccentric rotation of disk and a feedback controller stabilizing the feedback loop. A robust stability for all plant uncertainties is proved using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). In the controller design, a weighting function is introduced for the feedback controller to ensure a minimum loop gain and a sufficient phase margin. The repetitive controllers and the feedback controller are designed by solving an optimization problem which can consider the robust stability condition and the system performance. The developed repetitive control system is implemented in the digital control system with a 16-bit fixed-point digital signal processor (DSP). Through simulation and experiment. The feasibility of the proposed repetitive control system is verified.

This paper is concerned with the problem of robust stabilization of uncertain single-input and single-output nonlinear systems. Based on the input/output linearization approach for nonlinear state feedback synthesis in conjunction with Lyapunov methods, a stabilizing state feedback controller is proposed. Compared with the controllers reported in the control literature, instead of uniform ultimate boudedness, the controller proposed in this paper can guarantee uniform asymptotic stability of nonlinear systems in the presence of uncertainties. The required information about uncertain dynamics in the system is only that the uncertainties are bounded in Euclidean norm by known functions of the system state.

A novel neural network model, termed the standard neural network model (SNNM), similar to the nominal model in linear robust control theory, is suggested to facilitate the synthesis of controllers for delayed (or non-delayed) nonlinear systems composed of neural networks. The model is composed of a linear dynamic system and a bounded static delayed (or non-delayed) nonlinear operator. Based on the global asymptotic stability analysis of SNNMs, Static state-feedback controller and dynamic output feedback controller are designed for the SNNMs to stabilize the closed-loop systems, respectively. The control design equations are shown to be a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which can be easily solved by various convex optimization algorithms to determine the control signals. Most neural-network-based nonlinear systems with time delays or without time delays can be transformed into the SNNMs for controller synthesis in a unified way. Two application examples are given where the SNNMs are employed to synthesize the feedback stabilizing controllers for an SISO nonlinear system modeled by the neural network, and for a chaotic neural network, respectively. Through these examples, it is demonstrated that the SNNM not only makes controller synthesis of neural-network-based systems much easier, but also provides a new approach to the synthesis of the controllers for the other type of nonlinear systems.
This paper proposes a model based trajectory tracking control scheme for under-actuated underwater robotic vehicles. The difficulty in stabilizing a non-linear system using smooth static state feedback law means that the design of a feedback controller for an under-actuated system is somewhat challenging. A necessary condition for the asymptotic stability of an under-actuated vehicle about a single equilibrium is that its gravitational field has nonzero elements corresponding to non-actuated dynamics. To overcome this condition, we propose a continuous time-varying control law based on the direct estimation of vehicle dynamic variables such as inertia, damping and Coriolis & centripetal terms. This can work satisfactorily under commonly encountered uncertainties such as an ocean current and parameter variations. The proposed control law cancels the non-linearities in the vehicle dynamics by introducing non-linear elements in the input side. Knowledge of the bounds on uncertain terms is not required and it is conceptually simple and easy to implement. The controller parameter values are designed using the Taguchi robust design approach and the control law is verified analytically to be robust under uncertainties, including external disturbances and current. A comparison of the controller performance with that of a linear proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and sliding mode controller are also provided.
In the present study, a robust controller has been designed to control force for a pneumatic driving system considering the effect of a transmission line. Transfer characteristics of pneumatic transmission line should be changed according to the velocity of the air going through the transmission line. The designed controller is composed of two parts. The one is a feedback controller, which is composed of a stabilizing filter, a compensating filter of modelling error and a nominal model of the force control system, to compensate the influence of transmission line and improve the feedback characteristics of the control system, and, the other is a feedforward controller to achieve the control performance. Control results with the designed controller show that the robustness and performance of the control system are improved compared to the control results with a fixed gain controller.
This paper describes a design and performance evaluation of robust controller which overrides unstable motion and pulls out quickly after water entry of underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft or surface ship. We use 6-DOF equation for model of motions and assume parameter uncertainty to reflect the difference of real motion from modelled motion equation. we represent a nonlinear system with uncertainty as Takagi and Sugeno's(T-S) fuzzy models and design controller stabilizing them. The fuzzy controller utilizes the concept of so-called parallel distributed compensation (PDC). Finally, we confirm stability and performance of the controller through computer simulation and hardware in the loop simulation (HILS).
In this paper, we present a robust $H^{\infty}$ controller design method for parameter uncertain time-varying systems with disturbance and that have time-varying delays in both state and control. It is found that the problem shares the same formulation with the $H^{\infty}$ control problem for systems without uncertainty. Through a certain differential Riccati inequality approach, a class of stabilizing continuous controller is proposed. For parameter uncertainties, disturbance and time varying delays, proposed controllers the plant and guarantee an $H^{\infty}$ norm bound constraint on disturbance attenuation for all admissible uncertainties. Finally a numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of the results.ts.
In this paper, a structural design method of robust motion controllers for high-accuracy positioning systems, which makes it possible to predict the performance of the whole closed-loop system, is proposed. First, a stabilizing control input is designed based on robust internal-loop compensate.(RTC) for the system in the presence of uncertainty and disturbance. Next, using the structural characteristics of the RIC, disturbance attenuation properties and the performance of the closed-loop system determined by the variation of controller gains are analyzed. Through this analysis, in some specific applications, it is shown that if the control gain of RIC is increased by N times, the magnitude of error is reduced to its 1/N. Finally, the proposed method is verified through experiments using a high-accuracy positioning system used in the semiconductor chip mounting devices.
In this paper, a variable structure dynamic output feedback controller with an transformed sliding surface is designed for the improved robust control of a uncertain system under unmatched system uncertainty, matched input matrix uncertainty, and disturbance satisfying some conditions. This paper is extended from the results of the static output feedback VSS in [9]. To effectively remove the reaching phase problems, an initial condition of the dynamic output is determined. The previous some limitations on the dynamic output feedback variable structure controller is overcome in this systematic design. A stabilizing control is designed to generate the sliding mode on the predetermined sliding surface S=0 and as a results the closed loop exponential stability is obtained and proved together with the existence condition of the sliding mode on S=0 for all unmatched system matrix uncertainties. To show the usefulness of the algorithm, a design example and computer simulations are presented.
The magnetic levitation system is utilized in the magnetic bearing of high-speed rotor because of little friction, no lubrication, no noise and so on. The magnetic levitation system need the feedback controller for the stabilization of system, and gap sensors are usually used to measure the gap. The use of sensor is troublesome such as sensor trouble, discord between the measurement point and the control point etc. This paper presents the design of robust stabilizing controller by H$_{\infty}$ control theory using the sensorless method proposed already by authors in the magnetic levitation system. And we investigated both the validity of the designed controller and the usefulness of the sensorless method proposed by authors of magnetic levitation system through results of actual experiment..
