This paper deals with a control technique of eliminating the transient vibration with respect to a waist axis of an articulated robot. This control technique is based on a model-based control in order to establish the damping effect on the driven mechanical part. The control model is composed of reduced-order electrical and mechanical parts related to the velocity control loop. The parameters of the control model can be obtained from design data or experimental data. This model estimates a load speed converted to the motor shaft. The difference between the estimated load speed and the motor speed is calculated dynamically, and it is added to the velocity command to suppress the transient vibration. This control method is applied to an articulated robot regarded as a time-invariant system. The effectiveness of the model-based control integrated into the position control loop is verified by simulations. Simulations show satisfactory control results to reduce the transient vibration at the end-effector.
This study developed a human robot mast arm, which has a structure similar to the human arm, with the objective of taking over human works. The robot arm was structured to reproduce human actions using three axes on each of the shoulder and the wrist based on mechanics, and the actuator of each axis adopted an ordinary DC motor. The servo system of the actuator is a one body type employing an amp for electric power, and it was designed to be small and lightweight for easy installation. We examined the posture control characteristics of the developed robot mast arm in order to test its interlocking, continuous motions and reliability.
This paper describes a design and manufacture of a two-axis force sensor and a single-axis force sensor for the fingers of an intelligent robot's hand. The robot's finger is composed of a two-axis force sensor, a first knuckle, a single-axis force sensor, a second knuckle, a spring, a motor of first knuckle, a motor of second knuckle, and so on. The two-axis force sensor attached to the first knuckle and the single-axis force sensor attached to the second knuckle were designed and manufactured, and the characteristics test of two sensors was carried out. As a test results, the interference error of the two-axis force sensor was less than 0.68%, the repeatability error of each sensor was less than 0.02%, and then the non-linearity was less than 0.03%. It is thought that the sensors can be used for the fingers of the intelligent robot's hand for rehabilitation exercise of finger patients.

In recent year, as the robot technology is developed, the researches on the artificial muscle actuator that enables robot to move dexterously like biological organ become active. Actuators are key technologies underpinning robotics. Breakthroughs in actuator technology, particular in terms of power-to-weight ratio, or energy-density, will have significant impacts upon the design and control of robotic system. In this paper, a new approach to design and control of shape memory alloy(SMA) actuator is presented to drive the robot hand. SMA wire is divided into many segments and their thermal states of the SMA are controlled individually in a binary manner. This control manner will reduce the hysteresis that the SMA material has and it becomes the fundamental technology to develop the anthropomorphic robot hand. In this paper, the mechanism In the digital step motor of the shape memory alloy that is driven by the segmented binary control, which is a new control technique, is studied. This SMA digital step actuator applies for the robot hand and the driving mechanism of the robot hand is investigated.
In this paper, we discuss how to design 2-wheeled mobile robot hard wares as reasonable and practical as possible. A segway type mobile robot consists of 2 wheels only, placed in parallel rather than horizon. 2-wheeled mobile robots make you overcome high cost and time consuming maintenance procedures of the robot by reducing the number of robot hardwares. The most challenging thing in a 2-wheeled mobile robot that has many more valid virtues than the traditional mobile robots is to make it balance itself whenever it stands still or goes forward. But balancing itself is not an easy matter and there are many researches and experiments on this issue. When researchers test theories on 2-wheeled mobile robots to improve its self balancing performance, they should consider how to design hard wares of that mobile robot. No matter how great those new theories are, if a testbed for those theories is not suitable, performance output would be poor and meaningless. In this point of view, to design a proper 2-wheeled mobile robot as a testbed is a very important issue with development of new theories. So we define 4 guide lines to design segway type mobile robots reasonably; about motor, battery, and MCU selection and shock-proof design with robust motor setting.
One of the important issues for structural and electrical specifications in developing a robot is to determine lengths of links and motor specifications, which need to be appropriate to the purpose of robot. These issues become more critical for a gait rehabilitation robot, since a patient wears the robot. Prior to developing an entire gait rehabilitation robot, designing of a 1DOF assistive knee joint of the robot is considered in this paper. Human gait motions were used to determine an allowable range of knee joint that was rotated with a linear type actuator (ball-screw type) and links. The lengths of each link were determined by using an optimization process, minimizing the stroke of actuator and the total energy (kinetic and potential energy). Kinetic analysis was performed in order to determine maximum rotational speed and maximum torque of the motor for tracking gait trajectory properly. The prototype of 1 DOF assistive knee joint was built and examined with a impedance controller.
In this paper, we propose a method for compliance control of a SCARA type 2-freedom direct drive(DD) manipulator. Each joint of the manipulator is driven by a travelling ultrasonic motor(USM). The travelling USM has good some characteristics over conventional servo motors such as compact size, light weight, silent motion, high torque and high speed response. By controlling the elasticity and viscosity of robot joints, a robot can work in compliance with external environment. we control the elastic coefficient and the viscous coefficient of joint by adjusting the phase difference of the motor power. And we contemplate transient response of USM with adjusting the elastic coefficient and the viscous coefficient. To use the result, we can control the robot to reach its goal with compliance motion. It remains for further research to develop the impedance control of USM.
Biped robot requires that an energy source and a control part should be installed on the body to realize active system. So, we choose the DC motor having high torque in compact size in this study. In the DC motor serve system, we choose power amplifier with analog configuration, developed the module combined the controller and the driver. We applied this module to robot actuator and studied the response characteristics in an action and a return. Main controller with serve system, loading PIC micro controller, can be load on the robot with light weight.
