  • This paper presents a motion coordination of two robot manipulators coordinating an object. To coordinate the object, a force/position control scheme in a mode of leaer/follower is devised. The dynamics of the object are incorporated into the dynamics of the leader arm, which yields a reduced order model of two arm system. In order to regulate interaction forces between two arm, the dynamics of the follower arm are expressed as force dynamic equations such that a novel direct forces between two arms and two different type of bounded input disturbances, boundedness and asymptotic stability results based on a proposed Lyapunov function are shown. Also, a sufficient condition for a stability robustness is derived based on the Lyapunov approach.

  • The problem of a rigid rod sliding on a rough horizontal surface in the plane is analyzed, which is commonly cited as an example of the inconsistency of rigid body frictional mechanics. The inconsistency is demonstrated by analyzing the normal reaction force at the contact point with the surface, and the concept of tangential collision is derived to resolve the inconsistency. Using the Poisson's hypothesis for the coefficient of restitution and Coulomb's law for the friction, the general methodology for solving the tangential collision is presented. The problem of the inconsistency generated in the sliding rod is completely resolved, building the concept of the tangential collision and adopting the theory of frictional impact. The result presented in this paper will obviate a generic obstacle to the development of simulation packages for planar rigid body mechanical systems with temporary contacts, and planning efficient motion strategies for robot manipulators.

  • Linear LQG controller has been investigated to control flexible link manipulators. The performance and complexity of these depend largely on the model upon which the controller is designed. In this study, the flexible modes of the link manipulator are considered to have uncertain parameters, which can be represented by random variable and these parameters are reflected on the weighting of performance. In this method, the exact modelling for the flexible modes is not necessary. The order of the resulting controller is much lower than the one based on a full model. Through numerical study, it is shown that the performance and the stability-robustness of the proposed controller reaches reasonably the one based on the full model.

  • This paper presents a high precision integration method for the dynamic response analysis of structures with holonomic constraints. A detail recursive scheme suitable for algebraic and differential equations (ADEs) which incorporates generalized forces is established. The matrix exponential involved in the scheme is calculated precisely using $2^N$ algorithm. The Taylor expansions of the nonlinear term concerned with state variables of the structure and the generalized constraint forces of the ADEs are derived and consequently, their particular integrals are obtained. The accuracy and effectiveness of the present method is demonstrated by two numerical examples, a plane truss with circular slot at its tip point and a slewing flexible cantilever beam which is currently interesting in optimal control of robot manipulators.

  • The resolved motion rate control (RMRC) is converting to Joint space trajectory from given Cartesian space trajectory. The RMRC requires the inverse of Jacobian matrix. Since the Jacobian matrix of the redundant robot is generally not square, the pseudo-inverse must be introduced. However the pseudo-inverse is not easy to be implemented on a digital computer in real time as well as mathematically complex. In this paper, a simple fuzzy resolved motion rate control (FRMRC) that can replace the RMRC using pseudo-inverse of Jacobian is proposed. The proposed FRMRC with appropriate fuzzy rules, membership functions and reasoning method can solve the mapping problem between the spaces without complexity. The mapped Joint space trajectory is sufficiently accurate so that it can be directly used to control redundant manipulators. Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed idea.

  • This paper prexents an adaptive control scheme which adjusts any deviations of the manipulator from a desired trajectory. The scheme combines a new adaptive control and the conventional nominal control which drives the manipulator to the neighborhood of the trajectory. The proposed adaptive control is developed based on the lineatized perturbation equations in the vicinity of the trajectory and the Lyapunov design method, which makes the perturbations exponentially decay and has less computational requirements than the existing ones.

  • A robust optimal control design is proposed in this study for rigid robotic systems under the unknown loads and the other uncertainties. The uncertainties are reflected in the performance index, where the uncertainties are bounded for the quadratic square of the states with a positive definite weighting matrix. An iterative algorithm is presented for the determination of the weighting matrix required for necessary robustness. Computer simulations have been done for a weight-lifting operation of a two-link manipulator and the simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm is very effective for a robust control of robotic systems.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive neural control method to solve this problem. It is assumed that the model uncertainties of the robots dynamics, joint flexibility, and motor dynamics are unknown. The dynamic surface design method is applied, and all uncertainties in the robot and motor dynamics are compensated by using the adaptive function approximation technique. Simulation results for three-link electrically driven flexible-joint (EDFJ) manipulators are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control system.

  • Fruit harvesting robots should have more diversity and flexibility in the working conditions and environments than industrial robots. This paper presents an efficient optimization algorithm for redundant manipulators to avoid obstacles using dynamic performance criteria, while the optimization schemes of the previous studies used the performance criteria using kinematic approach. Feasibility and effectiveness of this algorithm were tested through simulations on a 3-degrees-of-freedom manipulator made for this study. Only the position of the end-effector was controlled , which requires only three degrees of freedom. Remaining joints, except for the wrist roll joint, which does not contribute to the end-effector linear velocity, provide two degrees of redundancy. The algorithm was effective to avoid obstacles in the workspace even through the collision occurred in extended workspace, and it was found be to a useful design tool which gives more flexibility to design conditions nd to find the mechanical constraints for fruit harvesting robots.

  • In order to eliminate position errors existing at the steady state in the motion control of robotic manipulators, a new fuzzy control algorithm is proposed using three variables, position error, velocity error and integral of position errors as input variables of the fuzzy controller. Three dimensional look-up table is used toreduce the computational time in real-time control, and a technique reducing the amount of necessary memory is introduced. Simulation and experimental studies show that the position errors at the steady state are decreased more than 90% compared to those of existing fuzzy controller when the proposed fuzzy controller is applied to the 2 axis direct drive SCARA robot manipulator.
