  • This paper presents an efficient control algorithm that removes irregular burrs using vision and force sensors. In automated robotic deburring, the reference force should be accommodated to the profile of burrs in order to prevent the tool breakage. In this paper, (1) The profile of burrs is recognized by vision sensor and followed by the calculation of reference force, (2) Deburring expert's skill is transferred to robot. Finally, the performance of robot is evaluated through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents a robotic system that provides telepresence to the visually impaired by combining real-time haptic rendering with multi-modal interaction. A virtual-proxy based haptic rendering process using a RGB-D sensor is developed and integrated into a unified framework for control and feedback for the telepresence robot. We discuss the challenging problem of presenting environmental perception to a user with visual impairments and our solution for multi-modal interaction. We also explain the experimental design and protocols, and results with human subjects with and without visual impairments. Discussion on the performance of our system and our future goals are presented toward the end.

  • This paper presents a study of a position finding system for a reactor inspection robot. The position of PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor is calculated by the degree of pan-tilt and the difference in height between pan-tilt and PSD. For that, the DSP which control pan-tilt is used for precise operation and the PIC microcontroller process PSD sensor data that indicate light incident position. A user using computer can acquire the conditions of pan-tilt and PSD.

  • In this paper, we studied for the real-time azimuthal measurement of HMD(Head Mounted Display) using the feature points detection to control the tele-operated vision system on the mobile robot. To give the sense of presence to the tele-operator, we used a HMD to display the remote scene, measured the rotation angle of the HMD on a real time basis, and transmitted the measured rotation angles to the mobile robot controller to synchronize the pan-tilt angles of remote camera with the HMD. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm for the real-time estimation of the HMD rotation angles using feature points extraction from pc-camera image.

  • This paper aims to derive a mathematical model of the dynamics of handling tasks in field robot which stable grasping and manipulates a rigid object with some dexterity. Firstly, a set of differential equation describing dynamics of the manipulators and object together with geometric constraint of tight area-contacts is formulated by Lagrange equation. Secondly, problems of controlling both the internal force and the rotation angle of the grasped object under the constraints of area-contacts of tight area-contacts are discussed. The effect of geometric constraints of area-contacts on motion of the overall system is analyzed and a method of computer simulation for overall system of differential-algebraic equations is presented. Thirdly, simulation results are shown and the effects of geometric constraints of area-contact is discussed.

  • In this study, we tried to investigate the impedance characteristic of human arm in a cooperative task. Human arm was moved in a desired trajectory. The motion was actuated by a 1 degree-of-freedom robot system. As the muscle is mechanically analogous to a spring-damper system, a second-order equation was considered as the model for arm dynamics. In the model, inertia, stiffness and damping factor were considered. The impedance parameter was estimated from the position and torque data obtained from the experiment and based on the "Estimation of Parametric Model". It was found that the inertia is almost constant over the operational time. The damping factor and stiffness were high...

  • In this paper we deal with a method of controlling PUMA 560 robot manipulator using a newly developed optical proximity sensor and the PDP-11/44 computer. The sensor output is different somewhat depending on an color of the object. The range of sensing vary from 38.4mm to 109.5mm for a real object, 39mm to 111.65mm for yellow, and 40.55mm to 107.25mm for blue. When an obstacle is encountered on the path of end-effector the system acknowledger immediatly the existence of the obstacle : and holds the motion of arm at a given distance. And also the system is capable of making the end effector avoid the obstacle automatically and keep on its motion.

  • Backlash between meshing gear teeth causes impact, tracking error and undesired vibrations. It is usually minimized by precision gear, spring-loaded anti-backlash gears and precise mechanical adjustment. Although these techniques can help to reduce the backlash gap, its cost is relatively high and performance is limited. And the classic controller is insufficient to control the dynamic system with nonlinearity. For these reason, a fuzzy controller is proposed to compensate the backlash effect at a robot system. The input variables are position error and change in error. The output variable can be defined by input voltage of motor. The performance of a fuzzy controller is verified by comparing with a PID controller. The results show that the undesired vibration is suppressed. And then diminishing the position error is observed.
