Characteristics of Expanded-CLMS Algorithm for Performance Improvement in ANC Systems for Road Noise Calming (도로소음 정온화를 위한 ANC시스템에서 성능개선을 위한 Expanded-CLMS 알고리즘의 특성)

  • Noise problem that occurs on the road is raising a lot of problems in the economic, social and environmental aspects. The active noise control (ANC) systems based on the filtered-X least mean square(FxLMS) algorithm have a problem with compensating the acoustic feedback of secondary route. However, newly proposed correlation-LMS(CLMS) and expanded CLMS algorithms have slightly much calculation and are minutely behind performance, these have a advantage not in measuring transfer function onerously so that we can easily adapt these in real time. The CLMS and expanded CLMS algorithm was developed to improve the real-time implementation performance under the variable input noise such as road noise environment. In this paper, we compared and analyzed their performance. From the results of the Matlab simulation for an ANC system, it is shown that expanded CLMS algorithms are more convergence speed and keep the desirable performance even in the input of road noise situation.

Colour Effect on the Loudness Perception of Road Traffic Noise (색채가 소음의 라우드니스 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to offer psychological stability and pleasure by reducing noise perception using appropriate visual information which fit to the situation and useful data for the soundscape design. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) In the Loudness evaluation of the visual information with green colored scenary showed lower evaluation rather than the other colors. 2) With the Green and Blue colored scenary with road traffic and shopping street alongside the road, lower perception of road traffic noise was showed. 3) With the White and Red scenary higher evaluation was showed than the original sound, but with the Green colored scenary lower evaluation was showed than the standard sound.

A Case Study on Noise Reduction Effect of Two-layer Porous Asphalt Pavement in an Urban Area (도심지 내 복층 저소음포장 설치에 따른 소음저감 사례연구)

  • PURPOSES : In this study, noise reduction effect of a two-layer porous asphalt pavement was investigated through site measurement and computer simulation. METHODS : To examine noise reduction effect, a 3 km long quiet pavement was installed by removing previous normal pavement, which had a rather low porosity. The studied site was a high-rise apartment building surrounded by the quiet pavement and Seoul ring road with heavy traffic volume, indicating relatively high background noise. RESULTS : The measurement result before and after installing the quiet pavement showed a noise reduction effect of 4.3 dB(A) at a distance of 7.5 m from the road. After validating the accuracy of simulation using SoundPLAN, the reduction in SPL(sound pressure level) at the facades by the quiet pavement was predicted by considering five different road conditions generating traffic noise from each road or in the combination of the quiet pavement and Seoul ring road. In the case of no noise from Seoul ring road, noise reduction at the facades was 4.2 dB(A) on average for 702 housing units. With background noise from Seoul ring road, however, the average SPL decreased to 2.0 dB(A). Regarding subjective response of noise, the number of housing units with a noise reduction of over 3 dB(A) was 229 out of 706 units (approximately 32%). For 77 housing units, the noise reduction was between 1~3 dB(A), while it was less than 1 dB(A) for 400 housing units. CONCLUSIONS : The overall result indicates that the quiet pavement is useful to reduce noise evenly at low and high floors compared to noise barriers, especially in the urban situation where background noise is low.

  • When performing the tunnel excavation blasting, the lower road structure can cause the damage of the structure caused by blasting vibration. In this case the existing structurel meet all of the static and the dynamic stability. But in the domestic management of building structures is presented vibration and is the only criteria, and the criteria for major civil engineering structures insufficient research situation. This study examined the influence of the road structure according to the blast vibration by utilizing the numerical analysis.

  • Noise maps are produced according to 'The Method of making a Noise Map' in order to noise control efficiently, and prediction model to predict road traffic noise which may apply to Korean situation, include CRTN, RLS 90, NMPB, Nord 2000 and ASJ 2003. Of them, ASJ 2003, Japan's prediction model has not been verified for the application to Korean situation according to the classification of vehicle. In addition, ASJ 2003 was revised to ASJ 2008 recently, a classification for motorcycle was added. This study attempts to check the classification of vehicle in ASJ 2008 and 'The Method of making a Noise Map' to confirm the suitability of the application of them to Korean situation.

Prediction of the Effect of Quiet Pavement on Reducing Barrier Height (저소음 포장도로 시공에 따른 방음벽 높이 저감효과 예측)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the quiet pavement on reducing a barrier height by using a prediction tool called SoundPLAN. METHODS : Firstly, the prediction was carried out to evaluate the difference in the maximum noise level at a building facade between the normal and the quiet pavements without a barrier. After calculating the noise reduction effect by the quiet pavement, a comparable barrier height to obtain the same noise reduction effect with it was predicted according to designable factors including road-building distance(10 m, 20 m, 40 m) and road-barrier distance(5 m, 10 m, 20 m, 30 m). RESULTS : The result showed that within the considered designable factors, the maximum barrier height was 37 m, 52 m, and 55 m to have the same noise reduction effect by the quiet pavement reducing 1 dBA, 3 dBA, and 5 dBA, respectively. It was evaluated that the barrier height increased with the increase of the road-building and road-barrier distances. To simulate the real situation in urban areas and to evaluate the combined effect of the normal/quiet pavement and barrier, the barrier height was fixed as 6 m. It was predicted that the noise level would reduce to as low as 0.2 dBA by the combination of normal pavement and barrier. On the other hand, the combination of the quiet pavement and barrier reduced 1.2 dBA, 3.2 dBA, and 5.2 dBA, respectively, for quiet pavement reducing 1 dBA, 3 dBA, and 5 dBA. CONCLUSIONS : A guideline needs to be suggested to select appropriate noise abatement schemes by considering factors such as the roadbuilding and road-barrier distances.

  • In recent years, road cutting work has been frequently performed for the repair of old road pavement and the development of underground space. However, the existing pavement cutting machine in Korea generates a lot of noise and dust. In this study, it was found out that the pavement cutting machine that cuts off noise and sucks cutting dust is used in overseas. Therefore, in this study, the concept of eco - friendly pavement cutter suitable for domestic situation is derived. The results will be used in prototype modeling and experimentation.

However, it has shortcoming for assessing the number of people exposed, or the number of dwellings affected to any relevant limit values of noise level in certain areas. In this study, so called over-ride value noise mapping is Proposed to make up for the shortcoming by using over-ride function of object-oriented programming and it is to show the guard of the area where it is satisfied the standard of option, or it is not satisfactory. Over-ride value noise map data is combined with topography layer, population and house statistics, and GIS space statistical analysis. The over-ride value noise mapping can also be applied to make the road traffic noise map, the railroad noise map, the aircraft noise map, and the industrial site noise map. This can express noise damage information more exactly.

Comparison between Indoor Noise Level and Subjective Response for Transportation Noise - Focusing on the Aircraft, Road traffic and Railway Noise (교통소음으로 인한 실내소음레벨과 주관반응 분석 - 항공기, 도로교통 및 철도소음을 중심으로)

  • A series of research to seek for the relationship between subjective responses and noise level for transportation noise have been proceeded, and their results showed similar for some cases and different for some other cases as well, which is considered due to the various conditions such as the way of survey, different scale applied, and country etc. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sound level and subjective response for the different kinds of transportation noise. The noises recorded in real situation were played to thirty subjects with fourty nine adjectives. The percentage of people annoyed(% PA) and the percentage of people highly annoyed(% HA) were calculated from the subjective results and compared how many percent of people are annoyed and highly annoyed for the same sound level. As a result of calculating the average, the aircraft noise was highest and the white noise lowest. The relationship between window TL and average point was well correlated except the aircraft noise which was scattered because of high sound level at specific frequency and low TL at corresponding frequency. This means that appropriate rating method for airborne sound transmission should be sought for to evaluate outdoor noise which has different frequency characteristics. The Boltzmann equation for % PA and % HA was applied to predict the sound level corresponding to the percentage. It is concluded that the aircraft noise and road traffic noise have almost same response and the railway noise was same with white noise, used for the reference noise, annoyed lower than other noises about by 3 dB.
