Independent Object based Situation Awareness for Autonomous Driving in On-Road Environment (도로 환경에서 자율주행을 위한 독립 관찰자 기반 주행 상황 인지 방법)

  • This paper proposes a situation awareness method based on data fusion and independent objects for autonomous driving in on-road environment. The proposed method, designed to achieve an accurate analysis of driving situations in on-road environment, executes preprocessing tasks that include coordinate transformations, data filtering, and data fusion and independent object based situation assessment to evaluate the collision risks of driving situations and calculate a desired velocity. The method was implemented in an open-source robot operating system called ROS and tested on a closed road with other vehicles. It performed successfully in several scenarios similar to a real road environment.

  • This paper proposes autonomous speed control strategy for an Electric Vehicle on urban road. SNU campus road is used to reperesent urban road situation. Motor efficiency of driving on campus circulation road can be improved by controlling velocity properly. Given information of campus road, especially slope of road, acceleration is selected from candidate, considering consumed power, human factor and driving time. To apply urban situation, preceding vehicle is also considered. With preceding vehicle, acceleration is defined according to clearance and relative velocity. Acceleration is bounded in normal range. Proposed acceleration control method is activated with proper velocity range for campus circulation road. With acceleration control, motor efficiency becomes better than driving with constant vehicle. To evaluate the performance of proposed acceleration controller, simulation study is conducted via MATLAB.

  • In this paper, we apply sliding control law to a nonlinear electro-hydraulic suspension system. The force the actuator must track is determined by the skyhook control law and the desired force value varies according to the road situation. The road frequencies can inform us of the current road situation. Detecting the road frequencies, we use the Fourier Transform.

  • The variable message sign (VMS) is equipment to improve the efficiency of traffic flow and safety of travel by providing real-time information to road users on traffic, road, weather situation, and traffic control due to construction. The information messages of the letter-based VMS taking up most of the VMS on the general national highways consist of section, travel time in sections, and road control situation. This study devised an improvement plan centered on road users, not road managers-centered existing message-based VMS through an analysis of road users' preference targeting the letter-based VMS operated in the general national highways in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. By presenting the measure for system improvement through which information on unexpected situations that road users prefer the most can be quickly and efficiently provided, this study aims to improve the efficiency of road user-centered VMS traffic information.

  • Currently, self-driving vehicles are on the verge of commercialization after testing. However, even though autonomous vehicles have not been fully commercialized, 81 accidents have occurred, and the driving method of vehicles to avoid accidents relies heavily on LiDAR. In order for the currently commercialized 3-level autonomous vehicle to develop into a 4-level autonomous vehicle, more information must be collected than previously collected information. Therefore, this paper proposes a Driving Situation Judgment System (DSJS) that accurately calculates the crisis situation the vehicle is in by useing the roughness of the road and the state of the passengers of surrounding vehicles including road information and weather information collected from existing autonomous vehicles. As a result of DSJS's PDM experiment, PDM was able to classify passengers 15.52% more accurately on average than the existing vehicle's passenger recognition system. This study can be a basic research to achieve the 4th level autonomous vehicle by collecting more various types than the data collected by the existing 3rd level autonomous vehicle.

  • This study is intended to propose the environment friendly lighting which can be excluded the element of obtrusive light(glare, spill light) and to make the sight environment of the external and internal road more comfortable as newly approaching the lower positioned lighting from the current high pole lighting. Taking account of the current situation of putting the stress on the road sight scene. It is proposed the study focused on the aesthetic design for playing a role of scenery. For this, it is searched used situation of the low light at interior of the country and abroad and tried to find the improvement. Also it is tried find out how to raise the effectiveness. And throughout the site inspection and the data searching about the road facility of a road to be installed the low height lighting, it is suggested the standard of the lighting installation and the direction for the future on the light design and development of the low height lighting which is suitable for the domestic situation.

The Belt and Road Initiative in Lebanon: A Promising Initiative in a Complex Society

  • The study aims to investigate Lebanese-Chinese relations within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Lebanon formally joined the effort in 2017; this paper emphasizes Lebanon's geostrategic importance. The paper presents an assessment of the investment risks in Lebanon, which is considered an economically unstable country with a volatile security situation, with many internal and external political hurdles. The paper refers to the obstacles and challenges that the Chinese investor may face in Lebanese society. The study employs qualitative descriptive analysis to address the status of Chinese investment in Lebanon and the consequences of this partnership; the paper examines previous research related to the Belt and Road Initiative and the Lebanese political, security, and economic situation literature. Due to the deteriorating security situation, external intervention, and the economic crisis, the results reveal that Lebanon is not a top investment priority for China, which is a big impediment to China entering into economic cooperation with Lebanon. The findings of this study suggest that the Lebanese government should adopt an anti-corruption policy to build confidence for the Chinese investor, reduce unnecessary public spending, and hold a national dialogue to build confidence among the Lebanese parties.

  • Antilock brake system(ABS) prevent the wheels of road vehicle from locking up and skidding so that the braking force is from static friction instead of kinetic friction. Therefore ABS helps drivers maintain steering control during breaking situation particularly at an emergency stopping situation.   • The purpose of this study is to investigate installation status of information facilities and condition of walking road influencing to psychological safety of walking tourists. For this purpose, four roads for walking tour are selected; the course no. 16 of Jeju Olle Trail, Sarabong Byeoldobong walkway in Jeju and the course no. 8 of Bougil, Gyeongpo Lake walkway in Gangneung. Facilities installed on roads for walking tour are classified into four facilities; safety facility, information facility, amenity facility, local cultural facility. In order to consider installation status of information facilities and condition of walking road influencing to psychological safety of walking tourist, a field experiment was conduced focusing on the course no. 16 of Jeju Olle Trail. Thirteen cases were happened as confusing situation while walking tour. Of the 13 cases, the situation of being lost and wandering on the trail accounted for six cases. In contrast to the expectation that the situation of being lost and wandering would occur only at a crossroads, it is not that such situation took place at specific places like a crossroads or where direction signs were inaccurate. Walking tourists of this field experiment also confronted situations of having lost confidence about continuing the ongoing direction, of having anxiety over walking a walking trail, of feeling discomfort caused by walking and of being offended by uncomfortable or messy areas of walking trial. These confusing situations are happened inappropriate installation of direction sign, so direction sign is needed to install more carefully and detailed.

  • Noise problem that occurs on the road is raising a lot of problems in the economic, social and environmental aspects. The active noise control (ANC) systems based on the filtered-X least mean square(FxLMS) algorithm have a problem with compensating the acoustic feedback of secondary route. However, newly proposed correlation-LMS(CLMS) and expanded CLMS algorithms have slightly much calculation and are minutely behind performance, these have a advantage not in measuring transfer function onerously so that we can easily adapt these in real time. The CLMS and expanded CLMS algorithm was developed to improve the real-time implementation performance under the variable input noise such as road noise environment. In this paper, we compared and analyzed their performance. From the results of the Matlab simulation for an ANC system, it is shown that expanded CLMS algorithms are more convergence speed and keep the desirable performance even in the input of road noise situation.
