Riverbed change is greatly influenced by artificial factors such as dam construction, gravel collection, and river improvement. This study simulated a long-term bed change based on the GSTARS3 model using actual data from the area downstream of the Geum River Daecheong Dam and compared the estimation with a section of the actual measurement. As a result, it was found that the section of the actual measurement was far lower than the result of the simulation in terms of long-term bed change. While the area downstream of Daecheong Dam displayed approximately an average of 2.29 m of streambed degradation on average while the upper stream area showed approximately 0.63 m of bed degradation over 24 years. In the simulation of the area downstream of Daecheong Dam based on the GSTARS3 model, similar bed degradation was observed. However, a great difference was detected between the result and the actual measurement. According to the cause analysis, the riverbed in the area downstream of Daecheong Dam has continuously degraded due to the dam construction and mass collection of gravel. The mass collection of gravel was the main cause of riverbed change. It was found that about 76% of all riverbed degradation was caused by the mass collection of gravel.
This study analyzed the characteristic of basic river structure, a flood level, the tree planting recommendation and syn thetic design, in order to establish a basic plan for preparing a natural practical area of environmental ecosystem at Bukchun and its surroundings. It was also investigated based on the opinion of citizens, geographical condition and the equipment/utilization examination of Bukchun which were included ecological circumstances, and thus provided a composite item for managing the natural river. This study also considered the development of the river in terms of culture, environment and ecology concept. The results were summarized as followed. Bukchun showed that the speed of a funning fluid is very fast on a period of flood. but very slow in a period of water shortage about 0.02 m/s. To prevent the speed change of a running fluid by a steep slope in a riverbed, there established Dongchun sluice gates under a bridge, including three sluice gates under a bridge, but there occurred extremely a riverbed erosion and corrosion section. The result of comparison between real flood degree and prediction flood data, there should perform a countermeasure the riverbed structure regulation of this area. Also, it was needed an exhaustive flood management in summer. According to the Bukchun and Hyungsangang riverbed investigation, there were needed preparation for natural/practical area and ecology Park development in the future. This study was investigated tree Planting/flower/blossom around the Bukchun and its surroundings. It was recommended willow, Italian poplar, bamboos and cherry blossoms in the Hyungsangang and Bukchun. There exist together historical space, environment space iud have enough possibility both natural learning space and civil rest space. And, it is possible to compose ecology natural learning and experimental area.
This study examined the effects of riverbed slope and roughness coefficient on flood level and flow velocity. A numerical experiment was conducted by installing HEC-RAS in the valley of a sub-basin in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. For each basin, three slopes of riverbeds (slopes-15.0%, 5.0%, and 1.0%) were chosen with different characteristics, and four coefficients of roughness were applied to each slope to parameterize the flow. Flow velocity and flood level were intensively investigated. It was found that in the cases of 15.0% and 5.0%, where the riverbed slopes are steep, the slope dominates the change in flow velocity and flood level, while in the case of 1%, where the riverbed slope is small, the change in flow velocity and flood level caused by changes in roughness coefficient is insignificant. Usually, the riverbed slope is large in the valley part of the watershed, so in this case, the slope will play a dominant role in the results of flow velocity and flood level when designing water-related structures.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of riverbed variation due to the sediment protection weir located on the estuary of the main stream of Taehwa river using I-D finite difference model, HEC-6 model, and the followings are the results of estimating sediment transport rate, amount of scour or deposition, and accumulated amount of deposit according to before and after of the sediment protection weir removal with various flow rates in the channel. Ackers-White transport function produced the greatest sediment transport rate while Meyer-Peter showed the smallest sediment transport rate at the most down stream area of the watershed through the sediment transport rate analyses for various flow rates according to the existence or nonexistence of the sediment protection weir. Toffaleti's and Colby transport function were closest to the average value, and the difference among the results of the sediment transport functions showed up to 8~9 times. Duboy's transport function produced the greatest riverbed variation while Toffaleti's showed the smallest variation through the riverbed variation analyses according to the existence or nonexistence of the sediment protection weir. Yang's was closest to the average value, and the difference among the results of the riverbed variation analyses ranged from 1.4 times to 11 times. It is thought that a sediment transport function must be selected very carefully with respect to the criteria of sediment yield estimation because the analysis results of the sediment transport rate and riverbed variation according to flow rates showed significant differences among the sediment transport functions, and the differences of sediment transport rate and riverbed variation according to the various sediment transport functions decreased as the flow rate increased.
Multi-functional weirs has been installed in four rivers are hydraulic structures across the river. The structures were divided into movable and fixed weirs. Hence, riverbed-level variation and sediment transport can be varied due to water gate operation. In this study, the long-term riverbed-level variation of Geum river basin due to water gate operation of multi-functional weirs was studied. Result of this study shows that the variation of thalweg elevation was greater than the variation of annual average riverbed elevation due to multi-functional weirs construction and water gate operation. Maximum riverbed degradation of thalweg elevation that occurred was 2.79m and riverbed aggradation was 1.90m. Maximum riverbed degradation of the annual average riverbed elevation that occurred was 2.16m and riverbed aggradation was 1.24m. Analysis result of flood stage by the variation of riverbed-level shows that flood stages were increased in majorities area. The maximum increase in the value of flood stage was 2.23m. For this reason, flood stages can be greater than the freeboard of the levees. Therefore, we should consider the water gate operation of multi-functional weirs when planning and managing sediment in the river. We are expecting to use the result of this study in river planning for river management and selecting the river regime.
The riverbed areas have exposed to various natural disasters and the private use by neighboring residents have caused many problems. The research objectives are to survey the actual situation of riverbed areas in order to prevent landscape damage and private use. Drone and photogrammetry, orthophoto, DSM(Digital Surface Model), digital topographic map and cadastral information have been integrated by GIS technology. The flood and disaster vulnerable area has been surveyed and the land use and private use has been analyzed using cadastral information. The research results show that the analyzed data can be used for providing foundation data for management of river and also can be used for surveying actual situation of private use on the riverbed areas.
The Gobiobotia naktongensis is a species endemic to Korea, and it has recently been designated as a class I endangered species of freshwater fish. Naeseong Stream, one of the tributaries of the Nakdong River, where the Gobiobotia naktongensis was first discovered, provided an optimal habitat for the Gobiobotia naktongensis in the past with fine sand beds and riffle. Currently, due to the construction of Yeongju Dam and the excessive dredging of river channels by the local government, the riverbed armoring in the downstream area of the dam is undergoing rapid changes, and as a result, the habitat environment of the Gobiobotia naktongensis is deteriorating. In this study, the variations of the habitat suitability of the Gobiobotia naktongensis due to the change in the riverbed grain size of the Naeseong Stream were analyzed based on the WUA (weight usable area) using the physical habitat model, River2D. The study domain is the reach from Seoktap Bridge to Hoeryong Bridge downstream of Yeongju Dam. The change in riverbed grain size was analyzed using D50 acquired in 2010 and 2020, respectively. The substrate grain size of Naeseong Stream in 2020 was thicker than that in 2010, and the riverbed coarsening phenomenon was evident overall. As a result of the River2D analysis, the area in which the Gobiobotia naktongensis could inhabit was only about 0.75% in 2010 compared to the entire area of the flow, and even this decreased to 0.55% in 2020 due to riverbed armoring.
The hydraulic-geometrica1 relations between the riverbed slope and water discharge and other hydraulic variables in some selected alluvial rivels in Korea have been investigated. The rivers from which the data relevant to this study were collected are mainly the first tributaries, considered to be mostly in the equilibrium state, of the 10 major rivers in Korea. The investigating methods adopted in this study are similar to the one suggested by Leopold and Maddock and the one suggested by Garde. All of 18 rivers their drainage areas of which range between 100-2,000 $\textrm{km}^2$ were considered and the changes in riverbed slope, drainage area, bed material size along the downstream river distance were measured. It is found in this study that the change in the riverbed slope, S, along the downstream can be expressed in terms of the coefficient, $\beta$, expressing the change in the drainage area along the downstream and the drainage area, A, by an empirical relation as 0.0063 0.0063 S = $S_{ 0}$$A_{0}$$^{-------- +0.51}$A-$^{-------- -0.51}$. $\beta$$\beta$ According to this relation, the riverbed slope of the river reaches investigated in this study appear to be proportional to the -0.6th power of the drainage area. This result is consistent with the previous ones obtained by Hack.k.

In advanced countries, state-of-the-art temperature monitoring technique is widely used for effective use of geothermal resources. But these kind of modern tools such as Thermal Line Sensor has not been applied to find geothermal characteristics of alluvium and riverbed in domestic area. In this research, state-of-the-art thermal line temperature sensor monitoring was introduced. And long term field test using this type of sensor was performed to find geothermal characteristics of alluvium and riverbed and evaluate the availability for heat energy source. As a result, temperature monitoring technique through thermal line sensor was very effective to obtain basic geothermal information of alluvium deposit and riverbed. Also, it was found that the groundwater temperature phase showed its potential of utilization as a energy source of heat pump. It is estimated that further study shows a specific corelation between temperature monitoring data and its availability as a energy source.
This study investigated longitudinal changes in riverbed materials properties and temporal alteration of river channel geomorphology in the Geum River basin, where two multipurpose dams(Yongdam Dam and Daecheong Dam) were built in upstream area. We carried out grain size distribution analyses and measured soil organic matter contents of riverbed materials taken at the upper and lower sites of the two large dams. We also estimated the channel width, bar area and vegetation encroachment using the oldest map and aerial photographs taken before and after the construction of the dams. The results can contribute to increasing understandings of dam induced habitat alteration in river ecosystem.
