HDM-2D(Song.

  • In this study, the 1D apparent shear stress model for vegetated compound open-channel flows was suggested. To consider the effect of momentum exchange between main channel and floodplain, the eddy viscosity concept was used in the present model. The interfacial eddy viscosity in the interface of main channel and floodplain was determined from the 3D Reynolds stress model. The evaluated interfacial eddy viscosity appears to be good agreement with those proposed previously. To investigate the effect of interfacial eddy viscosity, sensitive analysis was carried out. the computed backwater profiles are nearly identical with respect to the value of the interfacial eddy viscosity. However, the discharge conveyed by the floodplain changes is proportional to the interfacial eddy viscosity. Finally, the changes of the interfacial eddy viscosity due to the vegetation density and vegetation height were examined. The computed results of interfacial eddy viscosity are in proportion to the vegetation density and vegetation height, and the interfacial eddy viscosity has a range of $(2-5)\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$.

  • To investigate the effect of freshwater discharge on the seawater circulation in the semi-closed harbor, a 3-D hydrodynamic model was applied to the International Ferry Terminal (IFT). The model run is conducted for 45 days (from May 15 to June 30, 2020), and the reproducibility of the model for time-spatial variability of current velocity and salinity was verified by comparison with model results and observation data. There are two sources of freshwater towards inside of the IFT: Han River and water reservoir located in the eastern part of IFT. In residual current velocity results, the two-layer circulation (the seaward flow near surface and the landward flow near bottom)derived from the horizontal salinity gradient in only considering the discharge from a Han River is more developed than that considering both the Han River and water reservoir. This suggests that the impact of freshwater from the reservoir is greater in the IFT areas than that from a Han River. Additionally, the two-layer circulation is stronger in the IFT located in southern part than Incheon South Port located in northern part. This process is formed by the interaction between tidal current propagating into the port and freshwater discharge from a water reservoir, and flow with a low salinity (near 0 psu) is delivered into the IFT. This low salinity distribution reinforces the horizontal stratification in front of the IFT, and maintains a two-layer circulation. Therefore, local sources of freshwater input are considered to estimate for mass transport process associated with the seawater circulation within the harbor and It is necessary to perform a numerical model according to the real-time freshwater flow rate discharged.

  • To predict Daphnia secondary productivity along a trophic gradient indexed as total phosphorus (TP) concentration, we estimated energy transfer efficiencies from food quality for Daphnia such as eicosa-pentaenoic acid (EPA) or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) content. Eleven flow-through Daphnia magna growth experiments were conducted with seston from 9 lakes, ponds and river waters. Primary productivities were estimated from food supply rates in the flow-through experiments, producing energy transfer efficiencies from seston to D. magna. We found DHA content was the best predictor of energy transfer efficiencies among the essential fatty acids. An asymptotic saturation model explained 79.6% of the variability In energy transfer efficiencies. Based on empirical data in this study and empirical models from literature, we predict that Daphnia productivity would peak in mesotrophic systems by decreasing food quality and Increasing food quantity along trophic gradient.

  • In this study, specific pollutant releases during the Asian monsoon season were estimated and the information was applied to the non-point pollutant sources management from two forested watersheds of the Soyang Lake. The two watersheds are part of the 2,703 km2 Soyang Lake watershed in the northern region of the Han River. The outlets of the two watersheds were respectively analyzed for continuous water quality concentration and for discharge during various single rainfall events. Statistical power function methods are utilized to compare stream discharge and pollutant flux release during the study period. Based on the monitoring data during the study period, the specific load flux method using simulated discharge was conducted and validated in the two watersheds. The model predictions corresponded well with the measured and calculated pollutant releases. The modeling approach taken in this study was found to be applicable for the two forested watersheds.

  • Recent climage changes have resulted in increases in rainfall intensity and flood frequency as well as the risk of flood damage due to typhoons during the summer season. Water-friendly facilities such as ecological parks and sports facilities have been established on floodplains of rivers since the river improvement project was implemented and increases in the flood levels of rivers due to typhoons can lead to direct flood damage to such facilities. To analyze the hydraulic influence of these water-friendly facilities on floodplains or to evaluate their stability, numerical analysis should be performed in advance. In addition, it is crucial to address the drying and wetting processes generated by water level fluctuations. This study uses a Nays2D model, which analyzes drying and wetting, to examine its applicability to simple terrain in which such fluctuations occur and to natural rivers in which drying occurs. The results of applying this model to sites of actual typhoon events are compared with values measured at water level observatories. Through this comparison, it is determined that values of coefficient of determination ($R^2$), mean absolute error (MAE), and root-mean-square error (RMSE) are 0.988, 0.208, and 0.239, respectively, thus showing a statistically high correlation. In addition, the results are used to calculate flood risk indices for evaluation of such risk for water-friendly facilities constructed on floodplains.

  • In this paper, the WSANN(Water Stage Analysis with Neural Network) model was presented so as to predict flood water stage at Jindong which has been the major stream gauging station in Nakdong river basin. The WSANN model used the improved backpropagation training algorithm which was complemented by the momentum method, improvement of initial condition and adaptive-learning rate and the data which were used for this study were classified into training and testing data sets. An empirical equation was derived to determine optimal hidden layer node between the hidden layer node and threshold iteration number. And, the calibration of the WSANN model was performed by the four training data sets. As a result of calibration, the WSANN22 and WSANN32 model were selected for the optimal models which would be used for model verification. The model verification was carried out so as to evaluate model fitness with the two-untrained testing data sets. And, flood water stages were reasonably predicted through the results of statistical analysis. As results of this study, further research activities are needed for the construction of a real-time warning of the impending flood and for the control of flood water stage with neural network method in river basin. basin.

  • The assessment of seismic behavior and seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar concrete gravity dam constructed on Sakarya River in Türkiye is the main focus of this paper. For this purpose, the impact of sediment domain, ageing of concrete material under the impact of chemical and mechanical actions, and dam-water-sediment interaction are included in the two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model developed in FORTRAN 90 environment. In the FE model, the dam and age dependent sediment domains are modeled by solid elements, while reservoir domain is modeled by Lagrangian fluid elements. The radiation of reflected waves to the unbounded water domain is modeled by infinite Lagrangian fluid elements, while unbounded sediment domain is modeled by infinite solid elements. The coupled system was assumed to be under the simultaneous impact of Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) ingredients of 1976 Koyna earthquake and the coupled system was analyzed in Laplace domain by direct method. Due to the deterioration of the concrete, the H and V displacement responses together with the fundamental period of the body, elongate throughout the lifetime and this reduce the seismic safety of the dam. It was deduced that the ageing dam body will not experience major damages under the Koyna earthquake both at the earlier and later ages. Furthermore, at the heel of the dam, the hydrodynamic pressure responses are decreased by rising the sediment domain depth.

  • Nowadays, the world has suffered by natural disaster of climate change due to global warming. Korea has also faced with similar situation. To prevent these natural disaster, Four Major River Management has conducted. One of conducted content in Four Major River Management is the levee maintenance which classified into fill-up the inland, levee of reinforcement and so on. These maintenances may make the characteristics of groundwater flow change and affect to the levee safety (piping phenomenon). Therefore, analysis on groundwater fluctuation according to level of riverside and inland should be required. This study focus on levee of Hoe stream, which is connected to Nakdong river, and piping safety factor in the levee analyzed by using pore water pressure. Besides, groundwater fluctuation, which is depended on level of riverside and inland, is simulated by using the SEEP/W (2D ground water model). This simulation considered steady flow and unsteady flow. As a result, piping safety factor increased due to rising the inland level. Piping safety factor of riverside was effected by only river water level. Therefore, external levee factor considering inland level raising and suitable control of river water level is need to increase piping safety factor.

  • Unconsolidated and permeable alluvial deposit composed of sand and gravel is distributed along the fluvial plain at the Iryong study area. Previous studies on the area show that a single alluvial well can produce at least 1,650m3d-1 of bank infilterated shallow groundwater(BIGW) from the deposit. This study is aimed to evaluate and simulate the influence that seasonal variation of water levels and temperatures of the river have an effect on those of BIGW under the pumping condition and also to compare seasonal variation of COPs when indirectly pumped BIGW or directly pumped surface water are used for a water to water heat pump system as an heat source and sink using 3 D flow and heat transport model of Feflow. The result shows that the magnitude influenced to water level of BIGW by fluctuation of river water level in summer and winter is about 48% and 75% of Nakdong river water level separately. Seasonal change of river water temperature is about $23.7^{\circ}C$, on other hand that of BIGW is only $3.8^{\circ}C$. The seasonal temperatures of BIGW are ranged from minimum $14.5^{\circ}C$ in cold winter(January) and maximum $18.3^{\circ}C$ in hot summer(July). It stands for that BIGW is a good source of heat energy for heating and cooling system owing to maintaining quite similar temperature($16^{\circ}C$) of background shallow groundwater. Average COPh in winter time and COPc in summer time of BIGW and surface water are estimated about 3.95, 3.5, and about 6.16 and 4.81 respectively. It clearly indicates that coefficient of performance of heat pump system using BIGW are higher than 12.9% in winter time and 28.1% in summer time in comparision with those of surface water.
