  • In this paper, it is attempted to derive the minimum torque as the optimal value on each joint, which is applied during a PTP-motion in the range of working area of a supposed industrial robot. The rupposed industrial robot consits of 3-R joints prepared on three links, The optimizational analysis is performed by the formulation of a variational calculus process due to Rayleigh-Ritz method. That is, the torques of the inverse dynamic problem on joints in a arbitrary positions are computed by a generalized inertia matrix method.

  • Reduction scheme is remarkably useful in the case requiring the repeated calculation procedure. Recently, the efficiency of the reduction scheme has been improved by combining scheme of sub-domain method. But, when the global domain is partitioned into a few sub-domains, sub-domains without constraints can be produced. it is needed to extract the ritz vector from each sub-domain to construct the reduced system of each sub-domain. it is easy to extract the ritz vector from sub-domain with constraint. on the other hand, pseudo inverse method should be employed to extract the ritz vector from sub-domain without constraint. generally, the pseudo inverse takes a large number of computing time to obtain a reduced system of a sub-domain without boundary condition. This trouble can be overcome by the reduced pseudo inverse scheme which proposed in this study. This scheme is based on the static condensation that is not related with selection of the primary degrees of freedom. Numerical examples demonstrate that present method saves computational cost effectively and predicts the accurate eigenvalues.

  • This paper deals with a theoretical method to calculate natural frequencies of a fixed-free rectangular tank partially in contact with an outer water gap. Orthogonal polynomials satisfying the boundary conditions of the tank are used as admissible functions in the Rayleigh-Ritz method. A quarter model of the liquid-coupled system is constructed and it is simplified to a line supported flat plate in contact with the liquid. The liquid displacement potential functions satisfying the Laplace equation and water boundary conditions are derived, and the finite Fourier transform is accomplished in conjunction with the compatibility requirement along the contacting interfaces between the tank and water. An eigenvalue problem is derived so that the natural frequencies of the wet rectangular tank can be extracted. The predictions from the proposed analytical method show good agreement with the finite element analysis results.

  • The characteristics of smart skin for wireless LAN system under compression load are investigated. The smart skin structure is composed of 3 layers of face material and 2 layers of core material. Theoretical formula for determining buckling load is derived by Rayleigh-Ritz method and compared with experimental result. The maximum length of specimen that buckling does not occur is determined by assuming that the compression load is sustained by only face material. In the experiment, if buckling occurs obviously then it follows the theoretical result well. In the process of buckling, the load supporting capability and the antenna property such as radiation pattern and reflection coefficient were examined.

  • Sandwich plate is consisted of equal two isotropic, thin, stiff and strong sheets of dense material separated symmetrically by an isotropic thick layer which may be much less stiff and strong. This study analyzed the dependency of the natural frequencies and mode shapes of sandwich plates on material properties, thicknesses of faces and cores, and various boundary conditions using Rayleigh-Ritz method. E-glass Woven Roving and another two kinds of materials were selected as a face, P.V.C. and another kinds of materials were selected as a core. Natural frequencies and mode shapes obtained by Rayleigh-Ritz method were compared with F.E.M. solutions using ADINA program.

  • While the vibration of circular plates were considered by many researchers, rather less attention is given to elliptical plates. In the present paper, the Rayleigh-Ritz mothod is used to obtain an eigenvalue equation for the free flexural vibration of thin elliptical plates having the classical free, simply suported or clmped boundary condition. Circular plates are included as a special case of the elliptical plates. Products of simple polynomials are used as the admissible functions and a recurrence relationship facilitates the evaluation of the necessary integrals. The analysis is developed for rectilinear orthotropic plates but the numerical results are given for isotropic plates with various aspect ratios.

  • An analytical method for the free vibration of a flexible rectangular plate in contact with water is developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The plate clamped along the edges is partially contacted with water at both sides. It is assumed that the contained water is incompressible and inviscid. The wet mode shape of the plate is assumed as a combination of the dry mode shapes of a clamped beam. The liquid motion is described by using the liquid displacement potential and determined by using the compatibility conditions along the liquid interface with the plate. Minimizing the Rayleigh quotient based on the energy conservation gives an eigenvalue problem. It is found that the theoretical results can predict excellently the fluid-coupled natural frequencies comparing with the finite element analysis result.

  • The Ritz method Is applied In a three-dimensional (3-D) analysis to obtain accurate frequencies for thick. linearly tapered. annular plates. The method is formulated for annular plates haying any combination of free or fixed boundaries at both Inner and outer edges. Admissible functions for the three displacement components are chosen as trigonometric functions in the circumferential co-ordinate. and a1gebraic polynomials in the radial and thickness co-ordinates. Upper bound convergence of the non-dimensional frequencies to the exact values within at least four significant figures is demonstrated. Comparisons of results for annular plates with linearly varying thickness are made with ones obtained by others using 2-D classical thin place theory. Extensive and accurate ( four significant figures ) frequencies are presented 7or completely free. thick, linearly tapered annular plates haying ratios of average place thickness to difference between outer radius (a) and inner radius (b) radios (h$_{m}$/L) of 0.1 and 0.2 for b/L=0.2 and 0.5. All 3-D modes are included in the analyses : e.g., flexural, thickness-shear. In-plane stretching, and torsional. Because frequency data liven is exact 7o a\ulcorner least four digits. It is benchmark data against which the results from other methods (e.g.. 2-D 7hick plate theory, finite element methods. finite difference methods) and may be compared. Throughout this work, Poisson\`s ratio $\upsilon$ is fixed at 0.3 for numerical calculations.s.
