The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of sensation seeking and socialization on the risk taking behavior of adolescents. The subjects were 460 3rd year high school adolescents (272 boys and 188 girls) in Seoul, Korea. Data were collected through questionnaires, including the Arnett Inventory of Sensation Seeking (1994) a socialization scale (mother's parenting style, parent's open communication and relationship with friends), and a risk taking scale devised by the researcher. The results showed that both the degree of sensation seeking and the socialization process influenced risk taking behaviors in both males and females. The effect of sensation seeking on risk taking behavior was mediated by the degree of communication with fathers for male but not for female adolescents. For males, sensation seeking directly and indirectly influenced risk taking behaviors through closeness with risk taking friends. For females, sensation seeking did not directly influence risk taking behavior but had an indirect influence through closeness with risk taking friends. Implications were discussed in terms of sensation seeking and socialization.

Objectives Risk taking has been implicated in the development of various psychiatric disorders. Previous studies have indicated that risk taking behavior is associated with high levels of impulsiveness. Risk taking entail uncertain situation that outcome probability is unknown. This study tested impulsivity, intolerance of uncertainty and risk taking behavior. Methods A total of 73 participants completed a test battery comprised of the UPPS-P scale as a psychometric measurement of five dimensions of impulsivity, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, and Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART) as a behavioral measure of risk taking. The Pearson correlation analysis was used. Results The sensation seeking factor was positively correlated with BART measure (r = 0.27, p = 0.02). Specifically, the relationship between sensation seeking and BART was significant in females. Conclusions Among the five factors of UPPS-P, only the sensation seeking factor predicts risk taking propensity.
The purpose of this study is to examine the prevalence and correlates of three types of risk-taking behavior among high school students in Korea in a cross-sectional national sample. A sample of 636 male and 622 female high school students is analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Three types of risk-taking behavior are examined: drinking alcohol, smoking, and premarital sex. The results are as follows: Forty-three percent of students in the sample have ever drunk alcohol, 32% have ever smoked, 11% have experience premarital sex. Risk-taking behavior is more prevalent among boys than among girls. Boys and girls in Seoul are much more likely to have experienced three types of risk-taking behavior. Not having two parents in the family and having lived away from immediate family increase the likelihood of some risk-taking behavior. Students who have a friend with premarital sexual experience are much more likely to have experienced premarital sex themselves. Among sexually active students, having multiple sexual partners is common and prevalence of condom use is low. Reproductive health education at school has no effect on students' sexual behavior. The prevalence of risk-taking behavior among adolescent in Korea is likely to rise in the future. Substantial proportion of adolescents are exposed to the risks of STDs and substantial proportion of adolescent girls risk premarital pregnancy. Current health education programs are inadequate in protecting students from risk-taking behavior. Students whose families do not include both parents and students who live away from their immediate families need special programs to protect them from risk-taking behavior.
In study I, Domain-Specific Risk Taking Scale(DOSPERT) was translated into Korean and was validated that it had 6 factors structure and showed adequate reliability and validity, using the data had been collected from 438 participants. In study 2, two research problems were examined using the data had been collected from 497 participants who were different from study I. First, the mediation effect of sensation seeking and perceived benefit on the relationship between narcissism and risk-taking were examined. Using path analysis, it found that sensation seeking and perceived benefit mediated the relationship between NPI narcissism and risk-taking fully, and between PNI narcissism and risk-taking partially. Seceond, the moderate effect of contingencies of self-worth(CSW) on the relationship between perceived benefit-risk and risk-taking was examined. Using multi-group analysis, it found that virtue CSW moderated the relationship between perceived benefit-risk and total risk-taking, various CSWs moderated the relationships between perceived benefit-risk and 6 sub domains of risk-taking. These results were compared with previous studies of risk-taking and discussed the relevance of the narcissistic type.

This study analyzes taxi driver's risk-taking propensity with respect to risk-taking behaviour and traffic locus of control. In order to explore the traffic risk-taking, we present a predictive model by structural analysis of driver's risk-taking propensity. By applying this model to survey data from taxi drivers, we can observe that driver's risk-taking propensity has a significant impact on the traffic violation intention, and the higher perception of law and the lower lack of law-abiding drivers have, the more they tend to violate. Second, we test using multivariate analysis if the level of risk-taking propensity differs by the locus of control( external or internal). Drivers of external control shows higher risk-taking level compared to those of internal control so that the risk-taking propensity shows difference according to the locus of control for the responsibility of traffic accidents. The structural equation model of our study yielded ${\chi}^2$ = 279.7, ${\chi}^2$/df = 1.55, RMSEA = 0.44, GFI = 0.911, TLI = 0.916, CFI = 0.929.
In the cut-throat competitive environment of business, large-scale IS investment is becoming inevitable strategic necessity for gaining competitive advantage. However. it bears great deal of risk over all the associated processes so that the investment decisions need to be taken in a greatly careful manner. Nonetheless, Korean organizations are prominently showing risk taking behaviors regarding major is investment, in terms of system downsizing. Although decision theory argues decision makers' rational choice of options through the assessment of risk and benefit, the notable trend toward system downsizing in Korea defies common understandings on IS project risk. Furthermore, it encourages us to investigate many impenetrable characteristics underlying organizational risk taking decisions with IS investment. We found out that there is Significant effect of IS decision makers' risk propensity when they make system downsizing decisions. Moreover. we Identified that IS decision makers do not get a strong pressure of cost savings and have tendencies to mimic competitor's decisions.
This study aims to empirically verify that the effect of investor protection on risk taking may differ according to growth opportunities. Furthermore, this paper intends to verify the hypothesis that the impact of risk taking upon corporate value will also be influenced by growth opportunities. The results of the analysis show that firms with high growth opportunities demonstrate greater risk taking as investor protection gets stronger while the degree of investor protection has little or no impact on their risk taking in case of firms suffering a lack of growth opportunities. In addition, risk taking has a statistically significant positive impact on improving corporate value for firms with sufficient growth opportunities, in contrast the impact is little or none when firms lack growth opportunities.
Using flight simulator tasks with 48 air force cadets, this research examined the effects of pilots' flight skill and self-esteem on risk-taking behavior in the context of social comparison with their cohorts. Flight skill and self-esteem were assessed for individual cadets and three conditions of social comparison (upward-, downward-, and no-comparison) were devised. Flight simulator situations inappropriate for further approach or landing were designed to assess pilots' risk-taking behavior. Weather conditions in the simulator were inadequate to make a landing and the recommended strategy was to break off the approach and attempt a go-around. In this experiment, pilots' risk taking was measured in terms of their approach altitudes; the lower approach altitudes indicative of the higher risk-taking. Our results showed interaction effects of flight skill, self-esteem, and social comparison on risk-taking behaviors. For pilots who were either high or low in both self-esteem and flight skill, social comparison had no effect on risk-taking behavior. However, pilots with high self-esteem but low flight skill showed more risk-taking behaviors in social comparison conditions. And, pilots with low self-esteem but high flight skill showed risk-aversive behaviors in the downward-comparison condition.
According to previous literature, love involves a feeling of emotional bonds, attachment, and commitment to a specific target from a long-term perspective. In contrast, lust is defined as a sexual desire to engage in sexual activities from a short-term perspective. This research investigates the influence of feelings of love or lust on consumers' long-term benefit-seeking and risk-taking behaviors. Study 1 examined whether consumers' long-term benefit-seeking behaviors depend on feelings of love or lust. As a result, consumers who experienced feelings of love were more likely to prefer products that provide long-term benefits (e.g., a hybrid car) than those who experienced feelings of lust. Study 2 investigated consumers' risk-taking behaviors, depending on feelings of love or lust. The results showed that consumers in the lust condition were more willing to take a risk (e.g., a trip to a hazardous area) than those in the love condition. Taken together, this research demonstrates that consumers' long-term benefit-seeking and risk-taking behaviors depend on feelings of love or lust. Practical and theoretical implications are further discussed.

In order to analyze the influence of career self-efficacy on risk taking level in university students, career self-efficacy which becomes the basis of active occupational exploration was classified into four items including self evaluation, goal setting, occupational information and problem solving. Risk taking level was divided into three items of occupational selection, monetary management and human relation. 450 surveys were distributed to four-year university students in Seoul, capital area and rural area for three weeks from November 26 until December 17, 2011, among which 402 surveys were accepted as effective study subjects. Among items of career self-efficacy, most significant influence on self evaluation was shown in group with high risk taking level in monetary management, and problem solving had most significant influence in groups with high risk taking level in occupational selection and human relation. As a result, occupational information was found to have negative (-) influence on all items of risk taking level, with increasing degree of influence on occupational information for subjects showing lower degree of risk taking level. This study provides detailed analysis on individual's work task called risk taking level based on different occupational types, offering new verification of career self-efficacy as the most fundamental element of occupational exploration to university students looking for employment.
