  • We propose a novel ring structure based on the stadium-shaped ring resonator (SSRR) with dual photonic crystal microcavity (DPCM) for biosensor and analyzed the sensing characteristics. The Q-factor of the photonic crystal microcavity (PCM) can be significantly enhanced when the PCM or DPCM has the same resonance condition as the SSRR. The simulation results show that the Q-factor of the SRR with DPCM was increased by three times in comparison with single PCM structure. We also defined a mutual interference between two PCMs. Assuming a detectable spectral resolution of 10 picometers, a refractive index resolution of $3.03\times10-5$ can be measured on the SSRR-DPCM.

  • Ring networks are very commonly exploited among local area and metropolitan area networks (LAN/MAN), whereas cells or small fixed-size packets are widely used in synchronized ring networks. In this paper, we present an analytical method for evaluating the delay-throughput performance of a MAC protocol with multiple self-tokens in a slotted ring network under uniform traffic. In our analysis, we introduce the stationary probability, which indicates the number of packets in a node. Also, it is assumed that each node has a sufficiently large amount of self-tokens, and a slotted ring has the symmetry. The analytical results with respect to delay-throughput performance have similar values to computer simulated ones. Furthermore, in order to achieve fair access under non-uniform traffic, we propose an adaptive MAC protocol, where the number of self-tokens in a node dynamically varies, based on the number of packets transmitted within a specified period. In the proposed protocol, when the number of packets transmitted by a node within a specified period is larger than a specified threshold, the node decreases the number of self-tokens in a per-node distributed method. That results in creating free slots in the ring, thus all nodes can obtain an equal opportunity to transmit into the ring. Performance results obtained by computer simulation show that our proposed protocol can maintain throughput fairness under non-uniform traffic.

  • The process design for large-scale ring rolling of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was performed by calculation method, processing map approach and FEM simulation. The ring rolling design includes geometry design and optimization of process variables. The calculation method was used to make geometry design such as initial billet and blank sizes, and final rolled ring shape. A commercial FEM code, SHAPE-RR was used to simulate the effect of process variables in ring rolling on the distribution of the internal state variables such as strain, strain rate and temperature. In order to predict the forming defects during ring rolling and the formation of over-heating above $\beta$-transus temperature due to deformation heating, the process-map approach based on Ziegler's instability criterion was used with FEM simulation. Finally, an optimum process design to obtain sound Ti-6Al-4V rings without forming defects was suggested through combined approach of Ziegler's instability map and FEM simulation results.

  • In this paper, we numerically study both band-pass and band-stop plasmonic filters based on Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) waveguides and circular ring resonators. The band-pass filter consists of two MIM waveguides coupled to each other by a circular ring resonator. The band-stop filter is made up of an MIM waveguide coupled laterally to a circular ring resonator. The propagating modes of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) are studied in these structures. By substituting a portion of the ring core with air, while the outer dimensions of the ring resonator are kept constant, we illustrate the possibility of red-shift in resonant wavelengths in order to tune the resonance modes of the proposed filters. This feature is useful for integrated circuits in which we have limitations on the outer dimensions of the filter structure and it is not possible to enlarge the dimension of the ring resonator to reach to longer resonant wavelengths. The results are obtained by a 2D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The introduced structures have potential applications in plasmonic integrated circuits and can be simply fabricated.

  • In this paper, we present an experimental investigation of the frequency characteristics and a visual inspection of an oxidizer pump with a modified rear-floating ring seal for a 7-tonf turbopump. An oxidizer pump typically operates at high rotational speeds and under cryogenic conditions. Despite its low hydraulic efficiency, the floating ring seal is frequently employed as a leakage control solution for turbomachinery because it effectively reduces abrasion by friction. When the oxidizer pump starts up, the floating ring moves excursively but locks up stably against the pump casing when the contact pressure increases. The compressive force on the floating ring depends on the hydrodynamic forces induced by the flow through the floating ring. This force is controlled by the nose position of the floating ring. Based on a validation test for a 7-tonf turbopump with two types of floating rings, we concluded that the floating ring with a small diameter nose can move easily with a low contact pressure in the cooling path. This leads to instability of the pressure fluctuation around the floating ring. In contrast, a floating ring with a large diameter nose has a high contact pressure and attaches strongly to the casing, which causes wear and frictional oxidation between the contact surfaces of the impeller and the floating ring.

  • A ring resonator based band-pass filter enabling enhanced sideband suppression was proposed and demonstrated. It is composed of a single-ring based-pass section combined with a band-rejection section based on two different coupled rings. As for the achieved device performance, bandwidth was reduced from 98 MHz to 48 MHz by about 51% with no remarkable excessive insertion loss as expected. And the quality factor of the device was increased by about 105%.

  • The multiprocessor system suffers interconnection network contension while exploiting the program's parallelism. A CC-NUMA system based on point-to-point link ring structure is one of the scalable architectures that expand the system bandwidth the number of processors/nodes increases. The dual-ring system is a simple solution to enhance the system performance and scalability by duplicating the links. In ring-based systems, an unbalanced transaction among links makes a hot spot on the interconnection network. In this situation, total system performance and scalability are bound by the hot spot of the links In this paper, I propose a dual-link CC-NUMA system, which alleviates the concentration of transactions among the links. By the simulation results, the proposed system significantly outperforms the single-ring and bidirection dual-ring systems. In addition, the proposed system show better distribution of transactions among the links that achieves an extended scalability.

  • A vacuum chamber temperature control system of Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) storage ring is a subsystem upgraded PAL control system, which is based upon Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) [1]. There are two control components, data acquisition system (SA120 data logger), development control system IOC (Input/Output Controller) at the storage ring of PAL. There are 240 vacuum chamber at the storage ring. It was a very important problem to solve how to monitor such a large number of vacuum chamber temperature distributed around the ring. The IOC connect MODBUS/JBUS field network to asynchronous serial ports for communication with serial device. It can simultaneously control up to 4 data acquisition systems. Upon receiving a command from a IOC running under Windows2k through the network, the IOC communicate through the slave serial interface ports to SA120. We added some software components on the top of EPICS toolkit. The design of the vacuum control system is discussed. This paper describes the development vacuum chamber temperature control system and how the design of this system.

  • The in-situ stresses of concrete are an essential index for assessing the safety performance of concrete structures. Conventional methods for pore pressure release often face challenges in selecting drilling ring parameters, uncontrollable stress release, and unstable detection accuracy. In this paper, the parameters affecting the results of the concrete ring hole stress release method are cross-combined, and finite elements are used to simulate the combined parameters and extract the stress release values to establish a training set. The GridSearchCV function is utilized to determine the optimal hyperparameters. The mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and coefficient of determination (R2) are used as evaluation indexes to train the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) algorithm, and the other three common algorithms are compared. The RMSE of the GBDT algorithm for the test set is 4.499, and the R2 of the GBDT algorithm for the test set is 0.962, which is 9.66% higher than the R2 of the best-performing comparison algorithm. The model generated by the GBDT algorithm can accurately calculate the concrete in-situ stresses based on the drilling ring parameters and the corresponding stress release values and has a high accuracy and generalization ability.
