  • In this paper, a dual-band Koch Snowflake antenna is proposed for wireless communication systems. Fractal geometry, CPW-feed and stepped ground planes are used to improve the impedance bandwidth. By properly introducing a hexagonal split-ring slot to radiating element, a lower frequency band is generated. The proposed structure is fabricated and tested. Experiment results exhibit dual-band of 0.73-0.98 GHZ and 1.6-3.1 GHz which makes this antenna suitable candidate for GSM900, GSM1800, UTMS2100, Wi-Fi 2400 and LTE2600 bands. In addition, a good radiation pattern, a satisfactory peak gain and a radiation efficiency, which reaches 95%, are achieved.

  • In this paper, a monopole type antenna applicable to WLAN and WiMAX standard frequency bands is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna is designed to have rectangular ring and rectangular patch based on microstrip feeding for triple band characteristics and inserted two stub in the top of the rectangular ring patch to enhance impedance bandwidth characteristics. The proposed antenna has $18.0mm(2W_1+W_2){\times}33.0mm(L_7+L_8+L_9)$ on a dielectric substrate of $27.0mm(W_1){\times}44mm(L_1){\times}1.0mm$ size. From the fabrication and measurement results, impedance bandwidths of 660MHz (2,08 to 2.74GHz) for 2.4/2.5MHz band, 488MHz (3.40 to 3.88GHz) for 3.5MHz band, and 2,180MHz (4.61 to 6.79GHz) for 5,000MHz band were obtained based on the impedance bandwidth. The proposed antenna also obtained the measured gain and radiation pattern in the anechoic chamber.

  • In this paper, the dual band circular polarization patch antenna was designed by using band rejection characteristics of CSRR structure for geostationary satellites. A quadrangular CSRR structure was etched on the ground at the rear of the patch antenna's feed to obtain band rejection characteristics in between the receiving frequency band(1525~1559MHz) and transmission band(1626.5~1660.5MHz), and the corner of the patch antenna was truncated to enable circular polarization. It was confirmed that the resonant frequency of the patch antenna differs according to the size anc location of the CSRR and cirular polarization characteristics with simulation and measurement results. Measurement results shows the gain of about 0.2dB and 1.5dB in the TX and RX band.

  • For precise GNSS applications, the antenna phase center correction (PCC) is absolutely required. The PCC magnitude can reach the centimeter level with the antenna structure. In the present study, we first investigate the phase center offset (PCO) and phase center variation (PCO) of three different antenna models in two different reference frames, IGS08/igs08.atx and IGS14/igs14.atx. Clear L1 and L2 PCO differences were found between IGS08 and IGS14. In addition, the PCV showed characteristics that is dependent upon the signal direction (azimuth and elevation angle). The remarkable thing is that the changes of a Dorne Margolin choke-ring antenna model (AOAD/MT DOME) was very small in two reference frames. In order to analyze changes in positions according to different reference systems, GNSS data obtained from DAEJ, SUWN, and TSKB stations were processed by the precise point positioning (PPP) method. We suggest that an antenna PCO/PCV can affect the precise GNSS positioning on the order of several millimeters in two different reference frames.

  • We designed a biconical antenna with sleeve baluns that exhibited an improved radiation pattern from 3-40 GHz. In the antenna, the edges of the ring of the upper cone are blended to a cylinder. Sleeve baluns operating at specific frequencies are connected to the antenna to minimize leakage currents on the surface of the feeding coaxial cable. The radiation pattern was improved with the sleeve baluns, and the angular 3-dB beamwidth ranged from 67.1-101.1° over 3-40 GHz, which is much broader than the 21-99° of the conventional antenna.

  • In this paper, we considered a design method of a circular polarization (CP) antenna for UHF (ultra high frequency) RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) readers. The antenna is a dual-fed circular microstrip patch which produces right-handed CP. Quadrature hybrid coupler is used for dual feeding. The outputs of the coupler and circular patch are connected through copper wires, and the inductive reactance produced by the connecting wires is compensated by a ring-shaped slot inserted inside the circular patch. The effects of the geometrical parameters of the proposed antenna on the antenna performance are examined, and the parameters are adjusted to be suitable for the operation in North American UHF RFID band (902-928 MHz), which includes domestic UHF RFID band. The antenna is fabricated, and the experiment results reveal a frequency band of 854-993 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2. The fabricated antenna is connected to a commercial RFID reader, and it showed a good performance of tag identification.

  • In this paper, we design a 2.4 GHz bio-radar system that can detect human heartbeat and respiration signals with small size and improved noise performance using single circular-polarized antenna and phase-locked loop. The demonstrated bio-radar system consists of single circular-polarized antenna with $90^{\circ}$ hybrid, low-noise amplifier, power amplifier, voltage-controlled oscillator with phase-locked loop circuits, quadrature demodulator and analog circuits. To realize compact size, the printed annular ring stacked microstrip antenna is integrated on the transceiver circuits, so its dimension is just $40\times40mm^2$. Also, to improve signal-to-noise-ratio performance by phase noise due to transmitter leakage signal, the phase-locked loop circuit is used. The measured results show that the heart rate and respiration accuracy was found to be very high for the distance of 50 cm without the additional digital signal processing.

  • In this paper, a compact antenna is designed for the UWB lower half-band WVAN Gbps data-rate transceiver. The proposed antenna broadens the bandwidth less than -10 dB by placing the ring stubs and an open stub on the rectangular monopole above the partial ground and creating multiple resonant current paths. The designed antenna goes through the electromagnetic simulation and is fabricated and the implemented antenna has the characteristics of the return loss lower than -10 dB, the antenna gain greater than 5 dBi, and the efficiency over 80 % in the UWB lower half-band ranging from 3.197 GHz to 4.732 GHz. Therefore, it is thought that the proposed antenna is suitable for the size-reduced and excellently performing wireless communication transceiver.

  • In this paper, a novel ultra wide band(UWB) antenna with tri-band notch capability is proposed. The proposed antenna can reject WiMAX(3.3~3.7 GHz), WLAN IEEE 802.11a/n(5.15~5.825 GHz), and ITU(8.025~8.4 GHz) bands. Band rejection capability is achieved only split ring resonators(SRRs) and complementary SRRs(CSRRs). The SRR under the radiating patch, the CSRR loaded on the radiating patch, and the CSRRs on the ground of the CPW feeding reject the WiMAX, WLAN, and ITU bands, respectively. The simulation and measurement results demonstrate the performances of the proposed antenna.

  • This paper proposes a novel reconfigurable microstrip antenna based on alternating a perturbation structure to achieve circular polarization diversity. The proposed antenna consists of an annular ring microstrip radiator for simultaneously loading stub and slot perturbations which support right- and left-handed circular polarization senses and two PIN diodes for choosing the operating polarization sense. By controlling the states of two PIN diodes between perturbing slot and stub at one diagonal corner of the radiator, reconfigurable circular polarization senses of the proposed antenna are successfully obtained and alternated. The proposed antenna has been theoretically analyzed and experimentally demonstrated at 2.4 GHz of S-band for satellite communication system. The simulation and measurement results of the proposed antenna show in good agreement with the reflection coefficients, axial-ratios, realized antenna gains, and radiation patterns.
