Analysis of the Bottom Groove in L-shaped Profile Ring Rolling (L형상 프로파일 링롤링 공정의 하부면 그루브 결함 분석)

  • The profile ring rolling process can realize various ring shapes unlike conventional rectangular cross-sectional ring products. In this paper, the defective groove in the bottom surface of L-shaped ring products was analyzed. Grooves are generated by non-uniform external forces due to profile main roll and initial blank shape. Process parameters such as the motion of dies and working temperature were determined. Mechanism of groove formation was analyzed by FE simulation on the basis of local external forces acting on the blank. Analysis results were similar to the groove actually occurring in the production line. Based on results of the analysis, two solutions were proposed for the groove. The position of the base plate supporting the blank was adjusted and edge length of the main roll was extended to suppress growth of grooves. It has been verified that groove was improved by applying two proposed methods in the shop-floor.

  • This paper presents a comparative analysis on step and the touch voltages generated by either a sine and a ring wave voltage generator; this analysis was done as a basic study in order to develop a small and lightweight ground meter. A ring wave generator using pulsed power technology was fabricated; an experimental grounding system specified in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards 80 and 81 was installed. The step and the touch voltages, which were measured using comparable a sine and a ring waves in terms of magnitude and frequency, were equal. Using pulsed power technology, the weight of the fabricated ring wave generator could be reduced to one-fifth of that of a sine wave generator. Consequently, if a ground meter adopts the ring wave instead of a sine wave, it will be possible to reduce the weight of a ground meter and improve the efficiency of measurement.

  • To analyze the relationship between climatic factors (mean monthly temperature and total precipitation) and tree-ring growths of Pinus densiflora S. et Z. from National Parks (according to region) of the Korea, 20 trees were sampled from 13 National Parks. Only trees that were successfully cross-dated were used for dendrochronological analysis, and at least 11 trees were included. The tree-ring chronology of Mt. Bukhan (covering the shortest period of 1917 - 2016 [100 years]) was assessed, as well as that of Mt. Seorak (covering the longest period of 1687 - 2017 [331 years]). After cross-dating, each ring width series was double-standardized by first fitting a logarithmic curve and then a 50-year cubic spline. The relationships between climate and tree-ring growth were calculated with response function analysis. The results show a significant positive correlation between a given year's February-March temperature, May precipitation levels, and tree-ring growth. It indicates that a higher temperature in early spring and precipitation before cambium activity are important for radial growths of Pinus densiflora in the Korea.

  • Frictional performance of ring pack in internal engine is investigated by varying spatial dimensions of ring pack and operating speed. This investigation is performed with commercial software by Ricardo Consultant Engineers, Inc. which is now in wofdwide use in automobile industries. Among the ring performances, blow-by rate, axial ring motions and frictional behaviors of top and second rings are studies in our work.

  • The resilient packet ring (RPR) is a data optimized ring network, where one of the key issues is on load balancing for competing streams of elastic traffic. This paper suggests three efficient traffic loading algorithms on the RPR. For the algorithms, we evaluate their efficiency via analysis or simulation.

  • In this research, stress components and principal stresses of O-ring under internal pressure and under uniform squeeze rate were obtained from the stress freezing method of photoelastic experiment and photoelastic experimental Hybrid method for 3-dimensional problems. The obtaining processes of those were introduced. It was certified that the processes of those are effective for the 3-dimensional stress analysis of structures. Stress freezing method, the obtaining processes of those and photoelastic experimental hybrid method were effectively applied to the stress analysis of O-ring made from rubber that under uniform deformation and internal pressure. Stress components and principal stress of Oring under uniform squeeze rate and under internal pressure were analyzed.

  • In this study, the importance of failure analysis on large ring forged products was assessed and the process and methodology were introduced. Failure analysis case study of the large ring forged steel product with approximately 10 mm long internal crack found by non-destructive test (NDT) was presented. The micrographic and fractographic observations and the verifying tests were conducted on the cracked specimen to identify the possible metallurgical reason for the defects, and the metallurgical aspects of internal crack formation were discussed.

  • This paper presents the deformation characteristics of cam ring in a balanced type vane pump. Cam ring is operated in the high-pressure condition. Therefore the local deformation of cam ring affects the characteristics of compression, vane motion and noise and vibration. We analyzed the deformation of cam ring for the three types by using the finite element method. The deformed shape of cam ring and the effects of deformation on the compression are presented. As a result of analysis, we know that the right hole of the cam ring has advantage for reducing the pressure overshoot.

  • A friction tester to measure friction force generated at the interface between the piston ring and the cylinder liner was developed. Modified piston ring is bar-shaped and 100mm long. Surface of the modified piston ring is machined by the profile grinding machine to be formed as a shape of an arc of a circle. Measured data are treated as mean effective friction force and power loss. From this test it can be confirmed that friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is decreased and power loss is increased with increasing velocity. And it is known that region of mixed lubrication is broader than estimated with theoretical analysis. it is expected that this tester can be used as the optimization tool of the surface shape of the piston ring at the first stage of development of the piston rings.

  • In this study, the ring tensile test at high temperature was suggested to evaluate the hoop tensile properties of small tube such as the cladding in the nuclear reactor Using the Arsene's ring model, the ring tensile test was performed and the test data were calibrated. From the result of the ring test with strain gauge and the numerical analysis with 1/8 model, LCRR(load-displacement conversion relationship of ring specimen) was determined. We could obtain the hoop tensile properties by means of applying the LCRR to the calibrated data of the ring tensile test. A few difference was observed in view of the shape of fractured surface and the fracture mechanism between at the high temperature and at the room temperature.
