  • Objectives: The main purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of treatment with Hominis Placental pharmacopuncture (HPP) for 32 patients with hemifacial spasm. Methods: We treated facial spasm patients with acupuncture and HPP at Sabaek (ST2), Seung-eup (ST1), Gwallyeo (SI18), Chanjuk (BL2), Sajukgong (TE23), Hagwan (ST7), Hyeopgeo (ST6), Jichang (ST4), Wan-gol (SI4) and Yepung (TE17), and we investigated the effect by using Scott's scale. The data were analyzed by using the SPSS/10.0 for windows program with descriptive statistics, the paired t-test, and the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. Results: After treatment, the grade of the spasm's intensity based on Scott's description were decreased significantly. About 72% of the patients felt that the combination treatment had produced excellent results. Conclusion: These data suggested that HPP can be useful for treating facial spasm patients.

  • Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) has been considered as a low grade tumor of adolescents and young adults. Although this tumor often shows cystic component, the hemorrhage within the cyst is extremely rare. The authors report a rare case of cystic PXA with a hemorrhage within the cyst and the mural nodule in the left frontal lobe. A 64-year-old male presented with a week history of the right side hemiparesis. After gross total resection of the tumor, the patient was fully recovered from neurological deficit. It is suggested that this typically benign tumor could be presented with hemorrhage, causing a rapid neurological deterioration. Prompt surgical intervention, especially total removal of the tumor can provide an excellent functional recovery.

  • Even though intracerebral hematoma (ICH) due to ruptured cerebral aneurysm has been treated by aneurysm clipping at the same time of removal of ICH through craniotomy, such management strategy is controversial in an aged patients with poor clinical grade. In this regards, stereotactic aspiration of hematoma following coil embolization can be an alternative treatment modality. Thus, the authors report a case of an aged patient who underwent stereotactic aspiration of ICH following coil embolization for the ruptured aneurysm with a brief review of literature.

  • A pulmonary actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative disease which leads to abscess formation and fibrosis it was caused by aspiration of contaminated material from to mouth or oropharynx. Recently pulmonary actinomycosis is very rare by widespread use of antibiotics. Clinically, patients with pulmonary actinomycosis initially experience nonproductive coughing and low grade fever, but pulmonary complaints can be minimal. We report a case of pulmonary actinomycosis associated with hemoptysis which was confirmed by lobectomy with a review of literature.

  • Hamangiopericytoma, first described by Stout & Murray in 1942, is a rare vascular tumor composed of spindle-shaped or rounded cells proliferating around endothelial lined capillaries. These proliferating cells were belived to arise from the pericytes of Zimmerman. Histologically, this tumor demonstrates great variability and clinical course cannot be predicted from the histological appearance. Head and Neck hemangiopericytoma appears to have a lower grade malignancy with frequent local recurrency and metastasis, therefore, aggressive surgical therapy should be the treatment of choice. We experienced a case of hemangiopericytoma occurred in the right skull base at submastoideal and suboccipital area presenting as neck mass in upper occipital triangle in a 42 years old female patient and we report it with a review of literatures.

  • Thirty Patients with loco-regional recurrence following curative surgery for adenocarcinoma of the rectum were retrospectively evaluated to determine factors influencing survival and the efficacy of radiation therapy. In this review of 30 patients undergoing radiation therapy, more than 50 percent(17/30) had definite symptomatic and objective response. Ninety percent of patients(27/30) received significant palliation. Over all 2 year survival rate was $7.4\%$ and their median survival was 13.0 months. Grade of response and Sex were statistically related to survival.

  • Parachordoma is a very rare, slow-growing, and low-grade malignant tumor that occurs in the extremities and trunk. The differential diagnosis includes extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma and chordoma in the histologic finding. Thus, histologic findings with immunohistochemistry may be helpful in distinguishing parachordoma from extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma and chordoma. I report with a brief review of literatures one case of parachordoma of the chest wall which was successfully treated by en-bloc resection and chest wall reconstruction using 2 mm Gore-Tex$^{\circledR}$ soft tissue patch and free from recurrence for 16 months.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument which measures children's stress coping behaviors. The first 89 items were selected based on a literture review and a pilot study of 129 children with open questions. The final 75 items were selected using the data from subjects of 500 4th-5th and 6th grade children living in Seoul. The main study was conducted on March 5-10 1997. The data were analysis by frequencies percentages factor analysis and Cronbach's a. The resulting nine catagorical factors of 75 items in strument for children's stress coping behaviors were as fallows: positive revaluation of the situation emotional aggression problem-facing behavior information search for problem-solving emotion-vonvering behavior avoidance seeking spiritual support physical seperation for emotional relaxation emotional expression, The 9-factor 75-item scale explains 60.9% of children's stress coping behaviors and its value of Cronbach's a is 9.5.

  • Neck pain is an extremely common symptom with a variety of potential etiologies. A significant number of patients are turning to complementary and alternative medicine therapies. In particular, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation techniques are discussed. "Low quality evidence", as per the GRADE system criteria used by the Cochrane Review, supports the beneficial effects of these treatments Complications are generally benign and self-limited although occasional catastrophic consequences have been documented. Medical practitioners should familiarize themselves and their patients with the risks and benefits of complementary and alternative medicine in order to make informed decisions.
