  • Questionnaire survey from 101 visitors and 77 specialists was carried out to establish the management plan on landscapes of the artificial structure constructed in valley within Bughansan National Park. When comparison was made between ground sill work structure and valley landscape, visitor group responded to the highest scores in valley landscape after planting of vine species in the bottom of the constructure, while specialist group responded to valley landscape after the removal of the constructure. When it made a comparison between revetment work constructure and valley landscape, visitor group responded to highest scores in valley landscape after planting of vine species in the top of the constructure, while specialist group responded to valley landscape after replacing concrete revetment by stone revetment constructure. When it made a comparison between fall work constructure and valley landscape, both groups responded to the highest scores in valley landscape after the removal of the constructure. According to the valley landscape analysis, artificial constructures built in water channel should be matched to adjacent landscape with the removal of concrete constructure. The slope of water channel should be considered to build fall work constructure.

  • Recently, the lateral displacement of the passive piles which installed under the revetment on soft ground is very important during the land reclamation work along the coastal line. The revetment on the soft clay develops the lateral displacement of the ground when the revetment loading is exceeded a certain limit. The lateral displacement of ground causes an excessive deformation of under structure itself and develops lateral earth pressure against the pile foundation as well. Especially passive piles subjected to lateral earth pressures are likely to have excessive horizontal displacement and large bending moment, which induces structural failure of pile foundation and harmful effects on superstructure. The subject of study is to investigate the later displacement of pile foundation during the construction of container terminal at the south port of Incheon. Actual field measurement data and finite element method(FEM) by AFFIMEX Ver 3.4 were used to analyze the displacement of pile and the vertical settlement of soft ground. This analysis was carried out at each sequence of construction work.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of revegetation technique for water attacking point using waterlogged prevention frame revetment. In this study, we evaluate frame revetment stability, water quality, plant growth and ecological and envirnomental changes in Mooshim streamside landscape. The results are as follows; 1) The waterlogged prevention frame revetment appeared to be stable despite of two big floods. The materials used for the revetment were not eroded on the water attacking point. Thus, we confirmed the effect of scour prevention of the frame work. 2) The effects of the frame revetment on the water quality appeared to be good for the surrounding environment. Dissolved Oxygen(DO) was higher about $0.4{\sim}0.6mg/{\ell}$ at the frame revetment than that of the main stream flow. pH value was lower about 0.4~0.5. Electric Conductivity(EC) showed lower about $0.8{\sim}1.1{\mu}s/cm$. at submersion prevent frame than the low-flow of the stream. Turbidity was lower about $0.6{\sim}1.2mg/{\ell}$. 3) As the effects on ecological and environmental conditions, we discovered a number of carassius auratus and Zacco platypus in the frame revetment area. Also, sympetrum balteata, coenagrionidae was observed frequently. 4) The plant growth did not appear to tumble or wither despite of two big floods. The visual rating of plant growth was evaluated as medium (around 5 point) 5) The landscape analysis derived four factors(i.e. the harmony, the variation, the flexibility and the provincial characteristics) from the factor analysis.

  • The bank revetment work which is conducted on the slope of river bank to protect against flowing water as a geotechnical structure has been applied as an average value of critical tractive force based on domestic and international standard design. Currently, an appropriate evaluation is needed for the hydraulic stability and geotechnical behavior analysis of bank revetments because of the effects of climate change and ambiguous design criterion. This study has compared the critical tractive forces of soil improvement material and conventional materials used for the bank revetment work. Through various experiments, the shear strength of mixtures with soil improvement material was investigated by curing time and mixture ratio. It was found that the critical tractive force of the mixture obtained from a scour test is suitable to the reinforcement of the slope of river bank which has problems such as seepage erosion and scour.

  • The aim of this report is to analyze the Occurring rate of damage at each region of head works and to clear its damaged mechanism, centering around the destroyed situations of head works along both Musim and Bochong Rivers suffered from the storm flood occurred on July 22, 1980. The results obtained from the investigation of 25 head works taken for samples are summarized as follows. 1. The occurring rate of damage at each region of head works showed the largest number of 100 percentage in the revetment and protected riverbed work respectively, in the order of the next largest number, 68 percentage in weir body, 56 percentage in apron and 36 percentage in bank. 2. The destructive damage of revetment influenced largely on sweeping bank away, and destructive sufferings of weir body and protected bed work affected on the destructi on of apron, otherwise the destructive sufferings of apron reversely also acted on the- destruction of weirbody and protected bed work. In other hand, partial damage of weir body at the side of revetment is largely influenced by destructive sweeping away of bank. 3. It was showed that the destructive phenomena of weir body occurred largely at the part of concentrated flow and also had a deep relation with scoring by concentrated flow around upstream foundation of weir. 4. The suffered region of revetment is the down stream part just near weir body and the degree of damage is more severe at the curved part of bank that center of flow is concentrated.

  • This study is aimed at typifying the crossing structure and inquiring into the characteristics of vegetation distribution by type targeting Dorimcheon(stream), Banghakcheon(stream), Seongnaecheon(stream) and some sections of Yangjaecheon(stream) in Seoul through the establishment of basic data for restoring vegetation in urban stream. This research classified the crossing structure into 56 slope types and 31 vertical types in combination with the three items, such as bank slope(vertical style, slope style) of bank, absence or presence of waterside, and revetment structure. This research derived nine slope types including SB1 (revetment of low water level-revetment with vegetation, and revetment of high water level-nature riverside) including SG5(revetment of low water-concrete, and revetment of high water level-riprap work), and three vertical types, such as VH4(bank revetment-wet masonry), and VH7(bank revetment - concrete )from the target survey areas. Among these, both revetment of low water level and high water level were found to be distributed on the longest section as the type of SG7 and VG7 structured in concrete. As a result of inquiry and analysis of micro topography structure and vegetation structure of eight major types, this research could find out the influence of crossing structure on plant vegetation according to the characteristic by typified item, but there appeared no distinct characteristic of vegetation distribution by crossing structure.

  • Recently, the lateral displacement of the passive piles which are installed under the revetment on the soft ground is very important during the land reclamation work along the coastal line. The revetment on the soft clay develops the lateral displacement of ground when the revetment loading exceeds a certain limit. The lateral displacement of ground causes an excessive deformation of underground structure itself and develops lateral earth pressure against the pile foundation. The subject of study is to investigate the lateral displacement of pile foundation during the construction of container terminal at the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ port in Incheon. The displacement of pile and the vertical settlement were measured in the field and finite element method(FEM) analysis for each construction sequence was performed using AFFIMEX(Ver 3.4). From the comparison of the results from field measurement and the finite element analysis, the settlement of the reventment has already occurred at the time of field measurements. Since then, the noticeable lateral displacement of piles and settlement were occurred during the filling of dredged soil inside the revetment dredging and reclaiming work. After completing filling, the lateral displacement and field settlement were reduced remarkably. Generally, the results from the finite element analysis show larger than those from the measurement.

  • This study for development of close-to nature revetment techniques is conducted to rehabilitate disturbed stream ecosystem. For this objective, the experimental reach as on-site dimonstrated research was set up in Hakyoul, the Yangjaech'on from Oct. 1995 to Nov. 1996. Special emphasis on the developing process of the design of revetments was given to geomorphic character of 3 types of low flow channel bank: point bar, attack point and shallow bay. Each revetment was developed with the consideration on revegetation of emergent plants. And designed techniques were applied to the experimental reach, and were evaluated with monitoring for 1 year. As a result of the process, the experiment suggested ecological alternatives to enhance technical feasibility and to replace the conventional river-work.

  • In this work, wave run-up heights and resultant wave forces on a vertical revetment due to tsunami (solitary wave) are investigated numerically using a numerical wave tank model called CADMAS-SURF (CDIT, 2001. Research and Development of Numerical Wave Channel (CADMAS-SURF). CDIT library, No. 12, Japan.), which is based on a 2-D Navier-Stokes solver, coupled to a volume of fluid (VOF) method. The third order approximate solution (Fenton, 1972. A ninth-order solution for the solitary wave. J. of Fluid Mech., Vol. 53, No.2, pp.257-271) is used to generate solitary waves and implemented in original CADMAS-SURF code. Numerical results of the wave profiles and forces are in good agreements with available experimental data. Using the numerical results, the regression curves determined from the least-square analysis are proposed, which can be used to determine the maximum wave run-up height and force on a vertical revetment due to tsunami. In addition, the capability of CADMAS-SURF is demonstrated for tsunami wave forces acting on an onshore structure using various configuration computations including the variations of the crown heights of the vertical wall and the position of the onshore structure. Based on the numerical results such as water level, velocity field and wave force, the direct effects of tsunami on an onshore structure are discussed.

  • Recently, several construction projects have been built to create residential area, industrial complex and agricultural land on reclaimed on- and offshore regions. Estimating the quantity of filling materials during reclamation is the most curcial factor of the total construction cost of reclamation project. However, the estimation of loss ratio, defined as the ratio of loss amount to overall dumped amount, mostly depends on the empirical methods and formulae based on the material characteristics due to the lack of sufficient literature about the loss ratio according to hydraulic conditions. In this studies the loss ratio of materials considering flow conditions and material characteristics were examined through hydraulic experiments. A series of hydraulic experiments was conducted using five different hydraulic conditions and two types of materials such as sand and anthracite in a horizontal rectangular flume ($13.0m{\times}5.0m{\times}0.10m$), in which a round type revetment was installed. It is found that the loss ratio generally tends to increase with increasing the particle Froude number regardless of the types of materials. Also, when the flow velocity(u) becomes higher than the critical flow velocity ($u_c$), the loss ratios of sand and anthracite are dramtically increased up to 7.4% and 24.4%, respectively. As a future work, more specific mean velocities will be considered to figure out the loss ratio and more accurate estimation of amount of filling materials will be possible to present with confidence.
