Optical Characteristics of Sheetless LCD Backlight Using Micro Reverse-pyramid Array (Micro Reverse-pyramid Array를 이용한 일체형 Sheetless LCD Backlight의 광학적 특성)

  • The structure of an LCD backlight unit (BLU) was simplified by installing a micro reverse-pyramid array (MRPA) or a micro reverse-cone array (MRCA) on the top surface of the light guide panel (LGP) in order to eliminate the conventional diffuser sheet and the prism sheet. The optimum conditions of the MRPA and the MRCA in the new light guide panel were obtained through optical simulation. The change of the luminance and view angle that depend on the side angle, the height, and the length at the top of the MRPA and MRCA were studied. The optimized side angle and the view angle of the MRPA and MRCA were 59 and 57 degrees for the side angles and 68 and 64 degrees for the view angles, respectively.

  • The hologram pyramid is an application of floating holograms, allowing the observer to see three-dimensional holograms from various angles without wearing wearable devices. Due to the low cost and ease of manufacturing, it has been used in a wide variety of fields as diverse as education, prototyping, showcase, and etc. But, when the observer looks at the hologram from the place where each side of the hologram pyramid is connected, the hologram looks cut and distorted. Also, the observer can see the only hologram of angles viewed head-on from each side. In this paper, we propose a method of generating a hologram image corresponding to the observer's gaze angle by tracking the observer's position and conducting reverse distortion. It provide a hologram of the angle viewed by the observer without cutting and distortion. In addition, the existing method and the proposed method were applied and compared in the hologram pyramid.

  • Reverse Design(RD) plays an important role in simulation engineering, such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and Virtual Engineering and Design. RD becomes much more valuable when there is no shape data of the practical models for CFD grid generations. In this study, two-camera based rapid prototyping(RP) system is proposed. 3D-PTV based measurement algorithm was adopted. The developed system was applied to reconstruct three-dimensional data of a human face, a motorcycle model, a cylindrical body and a triangular pyramid.

  • As the risk of lung cancer has increased, early-stage detection and treatment of cancers have received a lot of attention. Among various medical imaging approaches, computer tomography (CT) has been widely utilized to examine the size and growth rate of lung nodules. However, the process of manual examination is a time-consuming task, and it causes physical and mental fatigue for medical professionals. Recently, many computer-aided diagnostic methods have been proposed to reduce the workload of medical professionals. In recent studies, encoder-decoder architectures have shown reliable performances in medical image segmentation, and it is adopted to predict lesion candidates. However, localizing nodules in lung CT images is a challenging problem due to the extremely small sizes and unstructured shapes of nodules. To solve these problems, we utilize atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) to minimize the loss of information for a general U-Net baseline model to extract rich representations from various receptive fields. Moreover, we propose mixed-up attention mechanism of reverse, boundary and convolutional block attention module (CBAM) to improve the accuracy of segmentation small scale of various shapes. The performance of the proposed model is compared with several previous attention mechanisms on the LIDC-IDRI dataset, and experimental results demonstrate that reverse, boundary, and CBAM (RB-CBAM) are effective in the segmentation of small nodules.

Design, Fabrication and Evaluation of Diamond Tip Chips for Reverse Tip Sample Scanning Probe Microscope Applications (탐침과 시편의 위치를 역전시킨 주사 탐침 현미경용 다이아몬드 탐침의 제작 및 평가)

  • Scanning probe microscopy (SPM) has become an indispensable tool in efforts to develop the next generation of nanoelectronic devices, given its achievable nanometer spatial resolution and highly versatile ability to measure a variety of properties. Recently a new scanning probe microscope was developed to overcome the tip degradation problem of the classic SPM. The main advantage of this new method, called Reverse tip sample (RTS) SPM, is that a single tip can be replaced by a chip containing hundreds to thousands of tips. Generally for use in RTS SPM, pyramid-shaped diamond tips are made by molding on a silicon substrate. Combining RTS SPM with Scanning spreading resistance microscopy (SSRM) using the diamond tip offers the potential to perform 3D profiling of semiconductor materials. However, damage frequently occurs to the completed tips because of the complex manufacturing process. In this work, we design, fabricate, and evaluate an RTS tip chip prototype to simplify the complex manufacturing process, prevent tip damage, and shorten manufacturing time.

Investigation on management conditions for vermicomposting of night soil in Field at N Sewage Water plant (N하수처리장 정화조.분뇨케익의 재활용을 위한 지렁이 사육 조건검토)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the expandibility of sludge treatment by earthworm through real scale experiment and the optimum counter-plan for organic sludge treatment. For the purposes, sludge removal efficienciesof night-soil using earthworm and it's behavior according to the transplanting methods of the earthworm on non-cover worm bed or in the green house worm bed were compared. Sludge uptake rates on non-cover worm bed for 6 months were $0.27{\sim}0.33ton/m^2$ and the excrement of earthworm yields $0.15ton/m^2$(44.1~46.7% of raw night soil sludge dosage). These results were not much different from the worm bed in the green house. The average and maximum earthworm density were about $6.5kg/m^2$ and $7kg/m^2$ respectively on the non-cover worm bed. The density of the worm bed was comparatively higher in spring and fall terms but lower in summer. The amount of old earthworm was much plenty than young earthworm on the non-cover worm bed, resulting in reverse distribution type of pyramid. From the experiments on non-cover worm bed(7,000 pyeong)and in the green house worm bed(1,200 pyeong), it was concluded that landfill and transporting cost could be reduced when the earthworm was applied for the night-soil sludge treatment. Profits from the excrement sale of earthworm was 9,600,000 won. Through this study, it was founded that earthworm treatment method for organic sludge are much more environmentally sound than landfill treatment.
