Outline of Domain Theory As a New Approach to Software Reuse (S/W 재사용을 위한 새로운 접근법으로서의 Domain Theory의 개요)

  • Over the years, several different approaches have been proposed to enhance the practice of software reuse. These approaches vary in reuse abstraction levels or application domains they focus on. However, it seems that they do not adequately meet the needs of software designers in planning and managing reuse. One reason may be the lack of conceptually well-established framework supporting work domain analysis and modeling. As a new viable solution to this problem, Sutcliffe and his colleagues developed Domain Theory , which is introduced in this paper. Utilizing multidisciplinary perspective, such as cognitive psychology, management science, human-computer interaction, and software engineering. it provides a schematic framework that defines a comprehensive library of generic and reusable models of domain knowledge in terms of generic tasks and meta-domains. It also provides useful methods and guidelines for software reuse, emphasizing the concept of abstraction process in a designer s mind. This paper firstly gives a brief overview of fundamentals of software reuse. Next, it explains the foundation of domain theory and discusses its applicability to software reuse. In particular, the taxonomy of meta-domains and the types of generic tasks are described in more detail. Finally, the future research framework, which primarily addresses the problem of how to apply the domain theory to various work domains, is proposed.

  • Currently interests of embedded software in various areas such as automotive field, ship field, robot field is increasing according to expand market of embedded systems. Various researches such as embedded operating systems, embedded software modeling technique, embedded software testing, and so on are going in progress. However systematic engineering approach in embedded system development is poor because embedded areas focus on hardware parts until now. Furthermore, framework-based de sign technique considering reusability is not reflected in embedded system development. Those development results in many of dead codes scattered in system, and results in poor reusability of system. This paper suggests a framework of embedded system for reusability and a static meta-model for reuse framework. Proposed meta-model expresses not only the structure of reuse framework, but also allows a designer to extend and design easily models of embedded system based on reuse framework according to various embedded system types.

  • Research and development(R&D) activities consist of analytical survey and state-of-the-art report writing for technical information. As R & D activities become more concrete, it often happens that they refer to related technical documents that were created in previous steps or created in previous similar projects. This paper proposes a research-task based reuse recommendation framework(RTRF), which is a reuse recommendation system that enables researchers to efficiently reuse the existing artifacts. In addition to the existing keyword-based retrieval and reuse, the proposed framework also provides reusable information that researchers may need by recommending reusable artifacts based on task similarity; other developers who have a similar task to the researcher's work can recommend reusable documents. A case study was performed to show the researchers' efficiency in the process of writing the technology trend report by reusing existing documents. When reuse is performed using RTRF, it can be seen that documents of different stages or other research fields are reused more frequently than when RTRF is not used. The RTRF may contribute to the efficient reuse of the desired artifacts among huge amount of R&D documents stored in the repository.

  • Typical multi-tier client/server architecture includes various and complex objects scattered around the network. Those objects must be clearly identified and designed. Then, their interface must be well-defined so that the integration can be done without major difficulties. This paper presents an application framework to increase reuse and to accomplish architectural simplicity in information systems development. Each component of the architecture is identified and designed. The proposed architecture of the application framework provides the fundamental structure for developing individual functions of an information system. Resulting architectural simplicity achieves effective and efficient maintenance throughout the lifecycle of the information systems. Although the framework aims at the reuse within a project, the productivity of information systems development across projects will be greatly improved eventually. Cases are discussed to evaluate the practicality of the architecture presented.

  • Many companies are investing in the development of the PDM(Prodct Data Management) system to improve the productivities of manufacturing since people believe that PDM technology can give a new solution from planning to development. As the requirements of PDM grows, so many industries sped their own budget on developing common requirements and functionalities. In this paper, we describe the framework for a PDM application to promote reuse in a PDM system development area. However, developing the framework is not easy. In this paper, the current state and results of our development are described: 1) the phases of developing our framework, 2) abstruction strategies, 3) programing model based on repository. Although frameworks improve software reuse, frameworks are so large and complex that application developers require to understand framework in order to customize the framework. To support the customization of framework, development environment is developed, also.

  • Both Optimization and Reuse Technology are considered as core technologies handling the values of products in embedded software. Framework technology is a typical type of optimization and reuse technology. When we develop software based on framework, The effect of reusability as well as development productivity can be improved. However, currently the form of framework-based development is very poor in embedded software development. Furthermore, because framework development is also beginning stage in embedded software development, there are questions whether developing framework can bring reusability effect. In this paper, we propose metrics measuring reusability of framework which is designed for improving reusability of embedded software. As as result of applying proposed metrics into real design cases, we can obtain more effective results in framework-based design than existing design.

  • There is no guideline or standard for the specification of the open-source-framework-based Spring AOP, and it causes confusion in development and maintenance. Moreover, the inconsistency between the existing MVC model, the AOP model that is used for Struts framework and the UML diagram makes the aspect reuse more difficult. In this study, a widened existing method was proposed so that Aspect, Pointcut and Advice could be expressed by either UML or XML to ensure that the Spring AOP can accept the combined use of the existing MVC model and the AOP model, which is used for Struts framework. Relationship was defined so that the mutual conversion could be possible with the proposed expression method, and the realization of simple development and maintenance was verified via the examples of mutual conversion. In addition, a packaging method to efficiently reuse aspect was proposed, and the possibility of reuse was verified.

  • We propose the software framework construction method that increases reusability through use case extraction and structuring of software system's dynamic behavior of which identifying behavior patterns from software domain models. Most behavior models do not provide a consistent modeling technique for harmonizing user's heterogeneous requirements, and not yet prepared to a detailed optimizing technique for redevelopment and maintenance. Therefore, we need a software reuse framework to support consistency and reusability of existing development models using use cases with functional characteristics. a lattice model is used to this approach for structuring use cases, and the reuse process that can be driven to reusable components is introduced in this paper,.

  • Developers can reuse not only class code but also wide range of knowledge on domain by reusing framework. Existing Object-Oriented Methodology and Catalysis Methodology were presented when redefining component in the course of redesigning framework. However, existing methodologies have weakness that entire process is waterfall mode or design of interface lays too much stress on implementation stage. So, this thesis will present Component-Oriented Methodology for the reuse of framework, and construct the environment for framework and domain development. That is, domain is analyzed by input of domain knowledge on real world to create software based on component, and hotspot is identified through analyzed information, and refactoring by putting additional information on users and developers. After that, I will create domain framework and application framework depending on domain. In this Component-Oriented Methodology, information is searched, understood and extracted or composite through component library storage internally. Then this information is classified into the information on component, and used as additional information in redesigning. With this, developer can obtain reusability, easiness and portability by constructing infrastructure environment that allows to register, update and delete component through Component Management System(CMS) under he development environment which can be easily applied to his own application using framework component, in this thesis, CoRBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) environment.

A Study on the Housewives' Clothing Behavior for the Environmental Protection (주부들의 환경보전을 위한 의생활행동)

  • The purposes of this study were to deter-mine the dimensions of the housewives' cloth-ing behavior for the environmental protection and the identify the effective variables. The results of this study was intended to provide fundamental material for the establishment of clothing behavior guidelines for the environmental protection. This study was conducted by reference analysis and empirical study. To develop theoreti-cal framework study. To develop theoreti-cal framework of dimensions of environmental protection behavior, references concerned were analyzed. The results of reference analy-sis showed that the dimensions of environmental protection bahavior were resource and energy saving, sold waste reduction, resource reuse or recycle, and green product purchase. The dimensions of housewives' clothing behavior for environmental protection were identified by use of self-administered questionnaires. The results of enpirical study showed that the dimensions of clothing behavior for the environmental protection wre clothing resource reuse or recycle, clothing management resource saving, clothing consumption resource saving, green product purchase, and clothing management resource saving was the highest and that of resource reuse or recycle was the lowest. Environmental consciousness, taking environmental education or not, residing place, clothing seperate-collectiong at residing place were effective variables on clothing behavior for environmental protection.
