Resolving the Ambigities in World Sense by using Automatic Keyword Network in Information Retrieval (정보검색에서의 어의 중의성 해소를 위한 자동 키워드망의 이용)

  • The automatic indexing is a compulsory part for the text retrieval system. However it is impossible to rank the appropriate texts at top. Furthermore, it is more difficult to prevent to rank the inappropriate texts having homonyms at top by only the automatic indexing. In this paper, we proposed the two-level retrieval system to enhance the retrieval efficiency, in which Automatic Keyword Network (AKN) is used at the second-level process. The firsHevel search is carried out with an inverted index file generated by the automatic indexing. On the other hand the second-level search exploits AKN based on the degree of asslxiation between terms. We have developed several formulas for rearranging the rank of texts at second-level search, and evaluated the performance of the effects of them on resolving the word sense ambiguities.

Performance Evaluation on Structure-based Retrievals of XML Documents (XML 문서의 구조기반 검색성능 평가)

  • In extension to our previous study, we develop metadata that specify elements' structural orders, to increase the efficiency level of XML document's retrieval process. Then, we proposed a structure-based indexing model. We expect the model to generate a more efficient retrieval process of horizontally and vertically related elements. To evaluate the model's performance level, we developed an experimental prototype and conducted an experiment on an XML corpus. On average, descendant, ancestor and sibling retrievals were approximately twelve percent faster than the ETID model. And retrievals specifying structural orders of particular element types were approximately twenty-five percent faster than the ETID model. In conclusion, metadata, such as Etype, Asso and Lsso, may make a meaningful contribution to retrieval processes that specify elements' order.

  • Most of information in Web2.0 is constructed by users and can be classified by tags which are also constructed and added by users. However, as we known, referring by the related works such as automatic tagging techniques and tag cloud's construction techniques, the research to be classified information and resources by tags effectively is to be given users which is still up to the mark. In this paper, we propose and implement a clustering system that does mapping each other according to relationships of the resource's tags collected from Web and then makes the mapping result into clusters to retrieve images. Tn addition, we analyze our system's efficiency by comparing our proposed system's image retrieval result with the image retrieval results searched by Flickr website.

  • We have proposed a composite feature measure which combines the color and shape features of an image for image retrieval. We improved the performance of retrieval based on the efficient color quantization using the Lloyd-Max quanizer and on the Histogram matrix matching method which considers the spatial correlation of quantized color group. We also supplemented the color information using shape information with the Improved Moment Invarlants. We have tested our technique on Image database consisting of 200 actual trademark images. Our experimental results showed that our approach improved the performance compared to the previous method under the various situations such as rotation images, translation images, noise added images, gamma corrected images and so on.   • In this work, we present a novel fountain code-based hybrid P2P storage system that combines cloud storage with P2P storage. The proposed hybrid storage system minimizes data transmission time while guaranteeing high data retrieval and data privacy. In order to guarantee data privacy and storage efficiency, the user transmits encoded data after performing fountain code-based encoding. Also, the proposed algorithm guarantees the user's data retrieval by storing the data while considering each peer's survival probability. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm enables fast completion of the upload transmission while satisfying the required data retrieval and supporting the privacy of user data under the system parameters.

  • This research is to develop product retrieval system through simplified communication by applying intelligent agent technology based on automatically created domain ontology to present solution on problems with e-commerce system which searches in the web documents with a simple keyword. Ontology development extracts representative term based on classification information of international product classification code(UNSPSC) and jewelry websites that is applied to analogy relationship thesaurus to establish standardized ontology. The intelligent agent technology is applied to retrieval stage to support efficiency of information collection for users by designing and developing e-commerce system supported with semantic web. Moreover, it designs user profile to personalized search environment and provide personalized retrieval agent and retrieval environment with inference function to make available with fast information collection and accurate information search.

  • Internet users are often frustrated when they try to find“right”piece of information quickly. The reason is that the discovery of available and quality based-resources becomes more difficult to end users while the Internet continues to expand rapidly. Not only incorrect keywords and query expression but word sense ambiguation are the cause of dropping-off in efficiency on Internet search.   • An image retrieval system based on image content is a key issue for building and managing large multimedia database, such as art galleries and museums, trademarks and copyrights, and picture archiving and communication system. Therefore, the interest on the subject of content-based image retrieval has been greatly increased for the last few years. This paper proposes a feature-based image retrieval technique which uses a compound feature vector representing both of color and shape of an image. Color information for the feature vector is obtained using the algebraic moment of each pixel of an image based on the property of regional color distribution. Shape information for the feature vector is obtained using the Improved Moment Invariant(IMI) which reduces the quantity of computation and increases retrieval efficiency. In the preprocessing phase for extracting shape feature, we transform a color image into a gray image. Since we make use of the modified DCT algorithm, it is implemented easily and can extract contour in real time. As an experiment, we have compared our method with previous methods using a database consisting of 150 automobile images, and the results of the experiment have shown that our method has the better performance on retrieval effectiveness.

  • Recently, even if a lot of visual feature representations have been studied and systems have been built, there is a limit to existing content-based image retrieval mechanism in its availability. One of the limits is the gap between a user's high-level concepts and a system's low-level features. And human beings' subjectivity in perceiving similarity is excluded. Therefore, correct visual information delivery and a method that can retrieve the data efficiently are required. Relevance feedback can increase the efficiency of image retrieval because it responds of a user's information needs in multimedia retrieval. This paper proposes an efficient CBIR introducing positive and negative relevance feedback with threshold value and pre-fetching to improve the performance of conventional relevance feedback mechanisms. With this Proposed feedback strategy, we implement an image retrieval system that improves the conventional retrieval system.

  • Video retrieval and indexing are performed by comparing feature similarities between key frames in shot after detecting a scene change and extracting key frames from the shot. Typical image features such as color, shape, and texture are used in content-based video and image retrieval. Many approaches for integrating these features have been studied. However, the issue of these approaches is how to appropriately assign weighting of key frame features at query time. Therefore, we propose a new video retrieval method using adaptively weighted image features. We performed computer simulations in test databases which consist of various kinds of key frames. The experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than previous works in respect to several performance evaluations such as precision vs. recall, retrieval efficiency, and ranking measure.
