퇴직한 남편과 그 부인의 탄력성과 적응분석 (Resilience and Adjustment of Retired Husbands and Wives)

  • This study examined the effect of resilience on the adjustment of retired husbands and their wives. Data was collected from 174 retired husbands and their wives in the Seoul metropolitan area. Collected data were analyzed by mean score, percentile, paired-t tests and regression analyses. The major findings were as follows : 1. There was no significant difference in the adjustments between retired husbands and their wives. 2. Individual resilience, family resilience and social resilience had a strong impact on the adjustment of retired husbands and their wives. Self-esteem, acceptance of retirement, communication between the couple, family cohesion, and retirement policy had a significantly positive impact on the husbands' adjustment. 3. As for the adjustment of the wives, self-esteem, communication between the couple, family cohesion, acceptance of husbands' retirement and religious activity had a significantly positive impact. In summary, this study shows the importance of resilience in the adjustment of retired husbands and their wives.

실버타운선호도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 - 관여도를 중심으로 - (Preferences for Retirement Communities and Consumer Involvement)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the impacts of consumers' demographic characteristics on their involvement in retired communities, under the assumption that consumers' involvement in retired communities would be a preceding factor of the consumers' preferences for retired communities. One of the major findings of this study was that there were statistically significant differences in the involvement in retired communities by several demographic variables such as age, gender, level of education, income, total family asset, consumer values, and pursuit of happiness. Second, such involvement was strongly correlated with consumer preferences. Third, the community management styles, such as sales and rental conditions, significantly influenced consumers' level of preference. The results from this study could provide useful information not only for understanding the residents of retired communities, buffer enhancing the welfare of residents of retired communities.

  • This study analyzes the impacts of household work participation and shared activities between couples on marital relationship and depression among retired men and women with retired husbands. To investigate this, a survey of 367 married people is conducted on retired men and women with retired husbands. The influencing factors on the marital relationship of retired men are found to be couples' shared activities, gender role attitudes, and subjective health status. The marital relationship of women with retired husbands is influenced by shared activities by couples, the division of domestic labor, and gender role attitudes. The factors affecting retired men's depression are shared activities by couples, perceived health status, type of jobs before retirement, and age. Women's depression is related to household income, shared activities by couples, husbands' jobs before retirement, subjective health status, and division of household labor.

남성퇴직자의 적응에 영향을 미치는 변인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Affected Variables to the Adjustment of Retired Men)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the protective factors that strengthen the adaptation ability by analyzing individual, family, and social activities variables which impact on the adjustment of retired men. The sample for final data analysis was 233 questionnaires completed by retired men aged from 45 to 65 years living in Seoul and the Metropolitan area. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS/WIN which included Frequencies, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1. The degree of the retired men's adaptation was 3.22 out of 5. 2. The retired men's adaptation was affected by the variables in the following order: marital satisfaction, economic life satisfaction, acceptance for retirement, recreational facilities satisfaction, recognition for retirement, and cohesion. These variables explained 65.3% of the retired men's adaptation to life. The findings of this study could be utilized as basic data for developing educational programs and guiding policy-making to help retired men achieve development.

은퇴노인가계의 경제구조 분석 (The Economic Status of Retired Elderly Households)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the economic status of retired elderly households. This study especially looked for the differences in the economic status among retired elderly households and the level of subjective financial strain. The data were drawn from the data of 2000 Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS) conducted by the Korea Labor Institute. The major findings are as follows: 1) The levels of income in the retired households were found to be lower than those of the employed elderly households, and the transfer income took the biggest portion out of 5 income types reflecting high economic dependency. 2) The levels of expenditure were found to be similar to the minimum living cost, and the food cost at home was 41.9% of the expenditure. 3) About 40% and 27.3% of households reported that they felt financial strain due to food expenditures at home and health care respectively. 4) Ninety percent of all assets were found to be real estate, reflecting the lack of asset liquidity. Further, retired elderly households were classified as 'not at all strained financially', 'moderate', 'seriously strained', and 'extremely strained' groups according to their subjective assessment. The last two groups showed the lower level of income and expenditures than the first two groups. In particular, 26.5% of retired elderly households belonged to 'extremely strained' group and showed very serious economic problems.

A Study on Influence of Physical Preparation for Later Life on Social Relationship after Retirement: Focusing on Moderating Effect of Leisure Life

  • Purpose - This study is to verify the mediating effect of voluntariness in retirement and the moderating effects of leisure life to examine which parts of later life preparations have influence on the retired life. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, the 6th Korean Retirement and Income Study was conducted on 5,254 members of households with householders over the age of 50. To examine the relationship between later life preparation and retired life, this study used personal data based on the serial number of the household members. Results - First, physical preparation for later life had a positive influence on retired life satisfaction among retirement satisfaction. People showed higher retired life satisfaction. Secondly, physical preparation for later life had a positive influence on satisfaction over relationship after retirement among retirement satisfaction. People showed higher satisfaction over relationship after retirement when they were more physically prepared for later life. Conclusions - In particular, leisure life had a mediating effect for the influence of physical preparation for later life on the retired life. Also, leisure life and physical preparation for later life showed a close influencing relationship. People showed active leisure life and higher retired life satisfaction when they were more physically prepared for later life.

  • 제대군인의 취업률이 증가하지 못하는 원인은 글로벌 경제 위기의 여파로 전반적인 사회의 고용불안정성에 기인한 것으로 앞으로도 수년 동안 제대군인의 고용환경에 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다. 군은 지난 20여 년간 제대군인 취업률 향상을 위해 노력함에도 불구하고 이와 같은 결과가 나타난 것은 전직지원과 관련한 교육지원정책의 보완이 필요한 것으로 판단되고, 이를 위해 국내 전직지원교육과 외국의 교육 실태를 조사하고 발전방향을 제시한다.

Factors Influencing the Consumption Expenditures of Retired Elderly Households: Focused on the Factor of Wealth Components

  • The purpose of this study is to take a new look at factors affecting the spending of retired elderly households by identifying the effects of different types of wealth components, along with socio-demographic factors, on current consumption. A tobit linear regression model was utilized to estimate parameters in the consumption functions. Data was drawn from the 1990 Consumer Expenditure Survey, Interview Survey in the United States.Total consumption and various consumption categories were the most responsive to changes in annual income flow and the least responsive to changes in property assets. The four wealth components differed in their influence on consumption categories among retired elderly households. In addition, age, residential area, household type, and education were found to be significant factors affecting total consumption and consumption categories of the retired elderly.

미국 은퇴가계의 경제적 복지에 관한연구 (The Economic Well-Being of Retired Households in the United States)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the economic well-being of households whose heads were retired in 1989 utilizing the combined income and net worth measyre of economic well-being which was adjusted for households size and composition. The data came from the 1989 Survey of Consumer Finances. The results showed that (1) the economic well-being of retired households was 87% of the average economic well-being of total households in the United States (2) there were considerable differences in the economic well-being among retired households and (3)race, sex, age of head had significant direct and/or indirect effects on the economic well-being of retired households. Education and income of longest job were significant intervening variables whereas the duration of longest job was not. On the basis of the results implications for public policy and future research were made.
