Lifetime Estimation for Mixed Replacement Grouped Data in Competing Failures Model

  • The estimation of mean lifetimes in presence of interval censoring with mixed replacement procedure is examined when the distributions of lifetimes are exponential. It is assumed that, due to physical restrictions and/or economic constraints, the number of failures is investigated only at several inspection times during the lifetime test; thus there is interval censoring. The maximum likelihood estimator is found in an implicit form. The Cramor-Rao lower bound, which is the asymptotic variance of the estimator, is derived. The estimation of mean lifetimes for competing failures model has been expanded.

  • Catalytic Combustion used to be applied to specific conditions because of the characteristics different from flame combustion. However, many researches are focused on widening the applicant range of catalytic combustion with the competences of catalytic combustion. The development of many catalytic combustion appliances is one of the trials to overcome the restrictions of reaction and maximize the merits. In this research, past developments of appliances are depicted and new conceptual system will be introduced - sequential system. Sequential catalytic combustion system is composed of units - existing catalytic heat exchangers. This system is performed with parallel in composition and serially in operation. First, the burden of the preheating can be dramatically reduced. Second, stable operation control is expected. Lastly, Capacity expansion is flexible.

  • Recent development cases of transportation utilities using tunnelling method in metropolitan sites have been increased due to the heavily complex environments and restrictions of construction works. The progress of tunnel design and construction to be supported by the tunnel analysis and measurement techniques using computers have increased adoptions of large section tunnels. In this paper, many factors to be considered in designing large section tunnels are discussed and the case of the construction of the subway station tunnel which is recently completed is introduced. This tunnel has a width of 24 m, a height of 16 m, and a excavation section area of 366 ㎡.

저신장 소아를 위한 성장호르몬 치료 (Short Stature and Growth Hormone Therapy)

  • Normal growth and development is of prime concern during childhood. The treatment of children with growth hormone deficiency has been revolutionized by growth hormone therapy. An improved height outcome with a final height within the target height range has been achieved. However, close follow-up with regular clinical and laboratory monitoring is essential for achieving the desirable height outcome. The theoretical unlimited supply of growth hormone has led to its wide spread use in a variety of disorders other than a growth hormone deficiency. Initially used in children with Turner syndrome, growth hormone is now used to treat chronic renal failure, an idiopathic short stature and intrauterine growth restrictions in addition to a wide array of newly emerging indications. This review summarizes the basics for a proper growth assessment, the differentiation of normal and abnormal growth causes of a short stature, and the indications for growth hormone treatment.

A Stock Pre-positioning Model to Maximize the Total Expected Relief Demand of Disaster Areas

  • Stock pre-positioning is one of the most important decisions for preparing the stage of emergency logistics planning. In this paper, a mixed integer model for stock pre-positioning is derived to support an emergency disaster relief response against the event of earthquake. A maximum response time limit, budget availability, multiple item types, and capacity restrictions are considered. In the model, the decision of the distribution centers to cover a disaster area and the amount of supplies to be stocked in each distribution center are simultaneously determined to maximize the total expected relief demand of the disaster areas covered by the existing distribution centers. The proposed model is applied to a real case with 33 disaster areas and 16 distribution centers in Indonesia. Several sensitivity analyses are conducted to estimate the fluctuation on the emergency stock pre-positioning planning by changing the maximum response time and budgets.

  • General location aware systems are only applied to indoor and outdoor environments using more than three transmitters to estimate a fixed object location. Those kinds of systems have environmental restrictions that require an already established infrastructure. To solve this problem, an Object Location Estimation (OLE) algorithm based on PTP (Point To Point) communication has been proposed. However, the problem with this method is that deduction of performance parameters is not enough and location estimation is very difficult because of unknown restriction conditions. From experimental tests in this research, we determined that the performance parameters for restriction conditions are a maximum transmission distance of CSS communication and an optimum moving distance interval between personal locations. In this paper, a system applied OLE algorithm based on PTP communication is implemented using a CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) communication module. A maximum transmission distance for CSS communication and an optimum moving distance interval between personal locations are then deducted and studied to estimate a fixed object location for generalization.

Faster Ate Pairing Computation over Pairing-Friendly Ellipitic Curves Using GLV Decomposition

  • The preexisting pairings ate, $ate_i$, R-ate, and optimal-ate use q-expansion, where q is the size of the defining field for the elliptic curves. Elliptic curves with small embedding degrees only allow a few of these pairings. In such cases, efficiently computable endomorphisms can be used, as in [11] and [12]. They used the endomorphisms that have characteristic polynomials with very small coefficients, which led to some restrictions in finding various pairing-friendly curves. To construct more pairing-friendly curves, we consider ${\mu}$-expansion using the Gallant-Lambert-Vanstone (GLV) decomposition method, where ${\mu}$ is an arbitrary integer. We illustrate some pairing-friendly curves that provide more efficient pairing from the ${\mu}$-expansion than from the ate pairing. The proposed method can achieve timing results at least 20% faster than the ate pairing.

Whitetopping 포장재의 시험포설 및 시공품질에 대한 평가연구 (A Study on the quality of High Early Strength Concrete as Whitetopping Materials)

  • In road pavements, it is known that cement concrete pavement has superior durability. But in repairing pavement, cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixed concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We developed special cement developing 1 day strength of over 30.0N/$mm^2$ to open the road within 1 day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour so that it can be used as ready mixed concrete. We performed experimental overlay construction with concrete and evaluated the properties of the fresh and hardened concrete. The flexural strength was over 5.0N/$mm^2$ and the compressive strength was over 30N/$mm^2$ at 1 day. So it is thought that the road can be open to traffic within 1 day after placement.

  • As the deposits of natural sands have slowly been depleted, it has resulted in an increase in manufactured fine aggregate (MFA). Standard specifications for fine aggregate for concrete contained in KS F 2558 permit a maximum of 7 percent finer than the No. 200 sieve (75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). Since the production process for MFA normally generates 10 to 20 percent of micro fines-which is defined as aggregates passing the No. 200 sieve (75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)-more than permitted by specifications, Excess fines must be removed by screening and/or washing operations. The amount of by-products will continue to grow as production increases with environmental discharge restrictions. This fundamental study focuses on experimental research for the adequacy of use of micro fines included in crushed aggregate using methylene blue test. Total of 63 types of sands from seven different rocks were tested. Based on the test results, the methylene blue test was turned out to be a good indicator of the quality of micro fines for concrete and a supplementary article and an amendment of the KS standard were recommended.

  • In this research report, we are presenting several optimization models for cognitive systems by using stimulus-response matrix (S-R Matrix). Stimulus-response matrices are widely used for tabulating results from various experiments and cognition systems design in which the recognition and confusability of stimuli. This paper is relevant to analyze the optimization/mathematical programming models. The weakness and restrictions of the existing models are resolved by generalization considering average confusion of each subset of stimuli. Also, clustering strategies are used in the extended model to obtain centers of cluster in terms of minimal confusion as well as the character of each cluster.
