  • An expert drawbead model is developed for the finite element analysis of stamping processes. The expert model calculates drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnings with the forming condi-tions and drawbead size. The drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnings of a circular draw-bead and stepped drawbead are computed by mathematical models and corrected by the multiple lin-ear regression method based on experimental measurements. The squared drawbead preventing the sheet from drawing-in inside die cavity is assumed to have a very huge drawbead restraining force and no pre-strain just after drawbead. The combined beads are considered as a combination of basic draw-beads such as circular a drawbead stepped drawbead and squared drawbead so that the drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnigs are basically sum of those of basic drawbeads.

  • Braces are one of the retrofitting systems of structure under earthquake loading. Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are one of the very efficient braces for lateral loads. One of the key needs for a desirable and acceptable behavior of buckling-restraining brace members under intensive loading is that it prevents total buckling until the bracing member tolerates enough plastic deformation and ductility. This paper presents the results of a set of analysis by finite element method on buckling restrained braces in which the filler materials within the restraining member have been removed. These braces contain core as the conventional BRBs, but they have a different buckling restrained system. The purpose of this analysis is conducting a parametric study on various empty spaces between core and restraining member, the effect of friction between core and restraining member and applying initial deformation to brace system to investigate the global buckling behavior of these braces. The results of analysis indicate that the flexural stiffness of restraining member, regardless of the amount of empty space, can influence the global buckling behavior of brace significantly.

  • Experimental programs were accomplished to improve and evaluate the structural performance of test specimens, such as the hysteretic behavior, the maximum horizontal strength, crack propagation of and ductility etc. Test variables are restraining factors of frame, with or without masonry infilled wall, and masonry method Six reinforced concrete rigid frame and masonry infilled wall were tested and constructed in one-third scale size under vertical and cyclic loads simultaneously. Based on the test results, the following conclusions can be made. For masonry infilled wall with restraining factors of frame, maximum horizontal capacities were increased by 1.91~2.24 times in comparision with that of rigid frame. For masonry infilled wall with restraining factors of frame(IFWB-l~3), cumulated energy dissipation capacities wear increased by 1.35~l.60 times in comparision with that of masonry infilled wall(IFB-1) at final stage of testing.

  • drawbead expert models are developed for calculating drawbead restraining force and drawbead-exit thinnings which are boundary conditions in FEM stamping simulation employing the linear multiple regression method by which the deviation of drawing characteristics between drawing test and mathematical model is minimized. In order to show the efficiency and accuracy of an expert drawbead model a finite element simulation of auto-body panel stamping is carried out. The finite element simulation shows that the expert drawbead model provides the accurate solution guarantees the stable convergence and the merit in the computation time.

  • The behavior of a new Three-Tube Buckling-Restrained Brace (TTBRB) with circumference pre-stress (${\sigma}_{{\theta},pre}$) in core tube are investigated through a verified finite element model. The TTBRB is composed of one core tube and two restraining tubes. The core tube is in the middle to provide the axial stiffness, to carry the axial load and to dissipate the earthquake energy. The two restraining tubes are at inside and outside of the core tube, respectively, to restrain the global and local buckling of the core tube. Based on the yield criteria of fringe fiber, a design method for restraining tubes is proposed. The applicability of the proposed design equations are verified by TTBRBs with different radius-thickness ratios, with different gap widths between core tube and restraining tubs, and with different levels of ${\sigma}_{{\theta},pre}$. The outer and inner tubes will restrain the deformation of the core tube in radius direction, which causes circumference stress (${\sigma}_{\theta}$) in the core tube. Together with the ${\sigma}_{{\theta},pre}$ in the core tube that is applied through interference fit of the three tubes, the yield strength of the core tube in the axial direction is improved from 160 MPa to 235 MPa. Effects of gap width between the core tube and restraining tubes, and ${\sigma}_{{\theta},pre}$ on hysteretic behavior of TTBRBs are presented. Analysis results showed that the gap width and the ${\sigma}_{{\theta},pre}$ can significantly affect the hysteretic behavior of a TTBRB.

  • During the past few decades, several composite steel-concrete structural systems have been used and the demand of SRC (Steel Reinforced Concrete) structure increases on the construction of coping structures. But drying shrinking of concrete which is not uniform and the additional restraining effects of encased steel in concrete may cause the crack which leads to harmful damage to structure. In this study, specimens were made to show the restraining effects of embeded-steel in concrete and the differential drying shrinkage strains at various position of concrete were measured and analysed by Compensation Line Method. The results showed that there were remarkable difference in the drying shrinkage according to 속 depth of the concrete, and the tensile stress of the concrete near to encased steel showed the significant amount of stress contrary to 속 specimen which has no embeded-steel.

  • In the sheet metal forming process, the drawbead is used to control the flow of material during the forming process. The drawbead provides proper restraining force to the material and prevents defects such as wrinkling or breakage. For these reasons, many studies for designing the effective drawbead have been conducted. In this paper, the influence of the number of drawbead during the blank forming process will be introduced. For the analysis, the numerical method called the static-explicit finite element method was used. The finite element analysis code for this method has been developed and applied to the drawbead process problems. It is expected that this static-explicit finite element method could overcome heavy computation time and convergence problem due to the increase of drawbeads.

In result, convergence problem and computation time due to large non-linearity in the existing numerical analysis methods were no longer a critical problem. Futhermore, this approach could treat the contact friction problem easily by applying very small time intervals. It is expected that various results from the numerical analysis will give very useful information for the design of tools in sheet metal forming process.
