  • Control signal generated from EEG (electro-encephalogram) can be used in many applications. In our study, for the purpose of developing practical instruments, a single channel system of providing reliable on/off signals was investigated since a multi-channel system can be bulky and expensive. Brainwaves in alpha, beta and theta bands were analyzed in order to extract reliable control signals when the concentration state reached. Rest and concentration states were differentiated based on power spectrum and histogram analysis. A better performance was obtained when the ratio between the beta and theta bands was used compared to the theta band only. In general, the longer the rest period before concentration, the lower success rate was. In addition, longer rest time produced longer detection time. Though there were individual differences, in case of 10-second rest time, a success rate of 91% and a detection time of 20.2 seconds was achieved on average.

  • This study investigated the shear stiffness of level of small strain with time effect. Time effect consists of rest time, loading rate of recent and current stress path. In addition, for the measurement of small strain, overconsolidated state was represented in a triaxial cell, and drained stress path tests were carried out. Test results show that the loading rate of recent stress path has no effects on the stiffness of very small strain, but the shear stiffness of level of small strain increases with it. Finally, the rest time and the loading rate of current stress path have the effects on the shear stiffness of initial and small strain.

  • Pilots' fatigue is one of the most serious threat to flying safety. Fatigue is influenced by many factors like sleep deprivation, daily activities, aging, stress, etc. This study was designed to investigate military pilots' daily activities. 20 pilots' daily activity was monitored by activity monitor, Fitbit(R), and the survey about sleep time and flight time was conducted. They placed Fitbit(R) on their waist for 5 days. During flight, they removed Fitbit(R) that had been used for checking their steps and walking distances. It was found that the average sleep time is 6.7 hours for fighter pilots. It was a little shorter than average sleep time for adults, 8 hours. Average steps per day was 6,838 which is more than sedentary worker's but less than active worker's. Their daily activities were not as high as we had expected. But their sleep time was very short. Flight surgeons should recommend them to take a rest and get sleep during rest period.

  • King Muryeong reungeseo Foot-rest on the subject of the king excavated a USB memory design. Foot-rest of the form and the meaning of patterns were expressed on a USB memory. Minds of ordinary people in these times communicator acts as an intermediary in the sky to give a sense of the king, such as Foot-rest patterns carved on the engraved turtle. Closely related to modern life, as cultural products associated with the computer by connecting supplies of products for some tourists, not only about reaching the wider public should focus on development. Meanwhile, the USB memory could not be seen in the case of natural wood material by using the age and the individual tastes of consumers represents USB memory into the merit of portability, necklaces pendants items for restoration, phone strap, key chain, etc. By combining the functionality increases. Meanwhile, on the basis of a practical item, the largest issue was the consumption of cultural products by maximizing the economic benefit of the community and at the same time a symbol of cultural heritage items have been transformed into the effectiveness of the national image enhancement is expected to be achieved.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of bed side exercising on back pain and bleeding during absolute bed rest in patients who had received transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. A total 46 patients were sampled from a gastrointestinal unit of a urban general hospital in Seoul. The control group received 8 hours of bed rest and conservative care. The experimental group received 8 hours of bed rest and bed side exercising every one hour from the time having absolute bed rest for 3 hours after TACE. Results: The experimental group with bed side exercising experienced significantly less back pain compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in the incidence of bleeding complications between two groups. Conclusion: The results indicate that a bed side exercising is associated with a reduction of back pain and with no increased risk of bleeding complications in patients after TACE.

  • The present study proposes a new methodology for predicting the demand for truck rest areas beside national highways. Previous demand forecasting methods were reviewed first in order to complement them with additional items. The results of the study are as follows. In the demand forecasting process, the primary task is to divide parking demands of trucks into short-term parking and long-term parking. Since short-term and long-term parking vary in utilization, congestion, and turnover rate, different influence factors should be considered according to parking time. Furthermore, the demand characteristics of rest and convenience facilities need to be reflected as well, because they in turn affect the demand for truck rest areas. In sum, the demand forecasting process for destination-type truck rest areas on national highways requires more attention than that for truck rest areas on expressways, and possible influences of various factors should be examined in this process.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of differences in exercise time arrangement on the functional recovery of the lower limbs and balance of stroke patients. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 100 patients who were hospitalized in two hospitals located in Gyeonggi-do. Before the experiment, 60 of these patients who met the inclusion criteria and did not meet the exclusion criteria were randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 30), whose exercise time was concentrated, and a control group (n = 30), whose exercise time was diffuse. The two groups underwent six weeks of physical and occupational therapy four times a day for five days a week. One session of therapy took 30 minutes, including three sets of physical therapy and one set of occupational therapy. The rest time between the sessions was different for each group. The experimental group had five minutes of rest between each therapy session, and the control group had two hours of rest time between each session. The Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), an assessment of each patient's limit of stability (LOS), and a timed up and go test (TUG) were used as test tools. RESULTS: Both groups showed statistically significant increases in their FMA results, LOS measurements, and TUG results. The FMA results of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. CONCLUSION: Thus, concentrated exercise time was more effective than diffuse exercise time for the recovery of motor function.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of absolute bed rest(ABR) on occurrence of bleeding, discomfort and back pain after kidney biopsy. Method: This study was the nonequivalent control group posttest design. The experimental group was allowed to stay in beds for 18 hour-bed rest(BR) after 6 hour-ABR while the control group was allowed to stay ABR for 24 hours. Results: No bleeding sign was showed for all the patients. Discomfort of voiding, eating, ABR in the control group appeared at a higher level. Three subjects in the control group needed nelaton catheterization, whereas no catheterization was required in the experimental group. There was no significant difference in back pain. However, the control group used more pain killer with significant difference. From these results. Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between ABR time and bleeding. On the other hand, the discomfort of the experimental group appeared at a lower level by reducing ABR time. Therefore, Reduction of ABR time after kidney biopsy would be more efficient way for patients.
