In order to explore the comprehensive evaluation means of the extent of hydraulic fracturing region in coal seams, we analyzed the feasibility of detecting the response of coal rock direct current (DC) apparent resistivity to hydraulic-fracturing using Archie's theory, and conducted experimental researches on the response of DC resistivity in the hydraulic fracturing process using small-scale coal rock samples. The results show that porosity and water saturation are the two factors affecting the apparent resistivity of coal rock while hydraulic fracturing. Water has a dominant effect on the apparent resistivity of coal rock samples. The apparent resistivity in the area where water flows through is reduced more than 50%, which can be considered as a core affect region of hydraulic fracturing. Stress indirectly impacts the apparent resistivity by changing porosity. Before hydraulic fracturing, the greater axial load applied, the more serious the rupture in the samples, resulting in the greater apparent resistivity. Apparent resistivity testing is a potential regional method to evaluate the influence range of hydraulic fracturing in coal seams.
The immunosuppressive effects of thirty nine chemicals chosen by their potential toxicity were evaluated using a three-step testing method. The immunotoxicity test method developed in this study consisted of three simple assays of lymphoproliferation, mixed leukocyte response, and interleukin (IL)-2 production. The first step was mitogen-induced proliferation assay. Ten chemicals showed the inhibitory effects on the mitogen (lipopolysaccharide or concanavalin A)-induced proliferation in dose-dependent manners. The second step was mixed lymphocyte response. This step crosschecked the growth-suppressive effects detected at the first step. All of 10 chemicals, which showed suppression of lymphoproliferation, also exhibited the suppressive effects on the mixed lymphocyte response in the similar range of chemical concentration. The third step was planned to determine whether or not this growth suppression was mediated through an early activation of T-cell, which could be represented with IL-2 production. Six out of 10 chemicals decreased the interleukin-2 production in the similar concentration range used in the step 1 and 2. These results suggest that those 6 chemicals might have their targets on the signal transduction path-way toward the IL-2 production. In the meantime the other 4 chemicals might have their targets after the IL-2 production signal. Taken all together, the three-step test would be simple, fast, and efficient to deter-mine whether or not the chemical has immunosuppressive effects.

Structural vibration characteristics of a semi-active base-isolated building were investigated using seismic observation records including those of the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake (Tohoku earthquake). Three different types of analyses were conducted. First, we investigated the long-term changes in the natural frequencies and damping factors by using an ARX model and confirmed that the natural frequency of the superstructure decreased slightly after the main shock of the Tohoku earthquake. Second, we investigated short-term changes in the natural frequencies and damping factors during the main shock by using the N4SID method and observed different transition characteristics between the first and second modes. In the second mode, in which the superstructure response is most significant, the natural frequency changed depending on the response amplitude. In addition, at the beginning of the ground motion, the identified first natural frequency was high possibly as a result of sliding friction. Third, we compared the natural frequencies and damping factors between the conditions of a properly functional semi-active control system and a nonfunctional system, by using the records of the aftershocks of the Tohoku earthquake. However, we could not detect major differences because the response was probably influenced by sliding friction, which had a more significant effect on damping characteristics than did the semi-active dampers.

Krill byproduct was hydrolyzed with Alcalase 2.4L to produce functional ingredients for high antioxidative activities against 1,1-dimethyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical and Fe. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimum condition for degree of hydrolysis and antioxidative activity of enzymatic hydrolysate produced with the commercial Alcalase using response surface methodology (RSM) with a central composite rotatable design (CCRD). The ranges of independent variables were pH 7.6~10.4 for initial pH and $50.9{\sim}79.1^{\circ}C$ for hydrolysis temperature and their dependent variables were degree of hydrolysis, Brix, amount of phenolic compounds, DPPH-scavenging activity and Fe-chelating activity. RSM with CCRD was well designed to investigate the optimum condition for functional ingredients with high antioxidative activities using Alcalase 2.4L because of their high $R^2$ values of the range of 0.93~0.99 except the $R^2$ value of 0.50 for the amount of total phenolic compounds. The optimum hydrolysis conditions were pH 9.5 and $62^{\circ}C$ for degree of hydrolysis (DH) and pH 9.1 and $64^{\circ}C$ for DPPH-scavenging activity by response surface methodology. The yield of DH and DPPH-scavenging activity were $14.1{\pm}0.5%$ and $10.5{\pm}0.2%$, respectively. It is advantageous to determine the optimum hydrolysis conditions of krill and its by-products for the creation of different kinds of food products, as well as to increase the usage of marine protein sources.
It is essential to predict the radioactivity distribution around the reactor cooling system (RCS) during obligatory cyclic operation of AP-1000. A home-developed program CPA-AP1000 is upgraded to predict the response of activated corrosion products (ACPs) in the RCS. The program is written in MATLAB and it uses state of the art MCNP as a subroutine for flux calculations. A pair of cyclic power profiles were superimposed after initial full power operation. The effect of cyclic operation is noticed to be more prominent for in-core surfaces, followed by the primary coolant and out-of-core structures. The results have shown that specific activity trends of $^{56}Mn$ and $^{24}Na$ promptly follow the power variations, whereas, $^{59}Fe$, $^{58}Co$, $^{99}Mo$ and $^{60}Co$ exhibit a sluggish power-following response. The investigations pointed out that promptly power-following response of ACPs in the coolant is vital as an instant radioactivity source during leakage incidents. However, the ACPs with delayed power-following response in the out-of-core components are perceived to cause a long-term activity. The present results are found in good agreement with those for a reference PWR. The results are useful for source term monitoring and optimization of work procedures for an innovative reactor design.

To effectively and safely manage the radiation exposure to nuclear power plant (NPP) workers in accidents, major overseas NPP operators such as the United States, Germany, and France have developed and applied realistic 3D model radiation dose assessment software for workers. Continuous research and development have recently been conducted, such as performing NPP accident management using 3D-VR based on As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) planning tool. In line with this global trend, it is also required to secure technology to manage radiation exposure of workers in Korea efficiently. Therefore, in this paper, it is described the application method and assessment results of radiation exposure scenarios for workers in response to accidents assessment technology, which is one of the fundamental technologies for constructing a realistic platform to be utilized for radiation exposure prediction, diagnosis, management, and training simulations following accidents. First, the post-accident sampling after the Loss of Coolant Accident(LOCA) was selected as the accident and response scenario, and the assessment area related to this work was established. Subsequently, the structures within the assessment area were modeled using MCNP, and the radiation source of the equipment was inputted. Based on this, the radiation dose distribution in the assessment area was assessed. Afterward, considering the three principles of external radiation protection (time, distance, and shielding) detailed work scenarios were developed by varying the number of workers, the presence or absence of a shield, and the location of the shield. The radiation exposure doses received by workers were compared and analyzed for each scenario, and based on the results, the optimal accident response scenario was derived. The results of this study plan to be utilized as a fundamental technology to ensure the safety of workers through simulations targeting various reactor types and accident response scenarios in the future. Furthermore, it is expected to secure the possibility of developing a data-based ALARA decision support system for predicting radiation exposure dose at NPP sites.
New driving waveform which can be inferred by analyzing fundamental LC mechanism is suggested. The main idea of the new waveform is the stabilizing LC layer fast in the cell by controlling the middle director of LC layer. Consequently, we can get not only numerical reduction of optical response merely but also the change of dynamic transmittance from applied voltage exactly
From the cost-effective product point of view, it is very important to design a new current controller with the highest utilization factor of current capacity of power devices. This paper deals with a state-deadbeat current controller for PWM converters, which shows the fastest current control response without overshoot irrespective of the saturation of control voltage. No-overshoot control response means that the current capacity could be fully utilized in the control sense. Simulational results done by Matlab's Simulink show good current control characteristics.

To minimize the damage from disasters, various aspects of prevention, preparation, and response, etc. are being managed. Even though prevention and preparation are well conducted, irresistible calamities such as natural disasters may cause unexpected damage. Therefore, a system that can share the identical disaster information based on prompt disaster management and prediction must be developed and constructed for integrated disaster management. Especially, for a prompt disaster response, the same information needs to be shared between the related organization and the disaster prevention personnel such as on-site officials. Recent disaster management systems use high-capacity geographic information or other various factors for accurate disaster predictions. In case of using a recently constructed or researched 3D GIS, the system may not be used in some cases due to conflicts with hardware, etc. Thus, even though response information is secured using prediction simulation in advance, it is essentially difficult in some cases to share the common information when the system cannot be utilized or the extension of the corresponding data cannot be read. Therefore, this study aims to construct a system for dealing with disasters that shares the same prompt and accurate information in compliance with common data formats. The system is expected to reduce the existing disaster response time and minimize human and physical damage by assisting decision making through prompt responses.

The conventional PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control technique is widely used for the process control in many industries since it is simple in structure and provides the good response. Nowadays, this control technique has been developed on the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to use for the process control loop. However, using this technique is difficult when tuning the PID parameters ($K_p$, $T_i$ and $T_d$) to achieve the best response. Moreover, trial-and-error procedure along with the operator experiences are required to obtain the best results when tuning the PID controller parameters. This paper proposes the self-tuning PID controller based on PLC for the process control in the industries. The proposed self-tuning PID controller uses the PLC-based PID structures to control the process production. The proposed PID tuning utilizes the PLC to synthesize and analyze controller parameter as well as to tune for appropriate parameters using Dahlin method and extrapolation. Experimental results using a self-tuning PID controller to control temperature of the oven show that the controller developed is capable of controlling the process very effectively and provides a good response.
