In this work the Dynamic Matrix Control method is applied to control the grade change operations in paper mills. Paper process trained by neural network regards a real-plant. The model obtained with operation data is used to achieve DMC. Results of simulations for DMC control of grade change operations are compared with plant operation data response. From the comparison, we can see that the proposed DMC method exhibits faster response for the grade change of paper and achieves stable steady-state.
An emergency response system (ERS) for vessel oil spills is a complex and dynamic system comprising a number of subsystems and activities. Failures may occur during the emergency response operations, this has negative impacts on the effectiveness of the ERS. Of the classes of problems in analyzing failures, the lack of quantitative data is fundamental. In fact, most of the empirical data collected via questionnaire survey is subjective in nature and is inevitably associated with uncertainties caused by the human being's inability to provide complete judgement. In addition, incomplete information and/or vagueness of the meaning about the failures add difficulties in evaluating the effectiveness of the system. Therefore this paper proposes a framework to evaluate the ERS effectiveness by using the combination of fuzzy reasoning and evidential synthesis approaches. Based on analyzing the procedure of ERS for oil spills, the failures in the system could be identified, using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)to determine the relative weight of identified failures. Fuzzy reasoning combined with evidential synthesis is applied to evaluate the effectiveness of ERS for oil spills under uncertainties last. The proposed method is capable of dealing with uncertainties in data including ignorance and vagueness which traditional methods cannot effectively handle. A case study is used to illustrate the application of the proposed method.

Using the computer simulation method, we invest19ate the probability distribution of maximum eigenvalue of pair-wise comparison matrix, which has been used as a parameter for measuring the consistency of responses in analytic hierarchy process (AHP). We show that the shape of the distribution of the maximum eigenvalue is different according to the dimension of the matrix. In addition, we cannot find any evidence that the distribution of the Consistency Index is a Normal distribution, which has been claimed in the Previous literature. Accordingly, we suggest using so called K-index calcu1ated based on the concept of cumulative distribution function lather than based on that of arithmetic mean because the probabilistic distribution cannot be assumed to be a Normal distribution. We interpret the simulation results by comparing them with the suggestion of Saaty[11]. Our results show that using Saaty's value could be too generous when the dimension of the matrix is 3 and strict over 4. Finally, we propose new criteria for measuring the response consistency in AHP.
In this research, a combined adaptive-robust current controller is developed for non-minimum-phase DC-DC converters in a wide range of operations. In the proposed nonlinear controller, load resistance, input voltage and zero interval of the inductor current are estimated using developed adaptation rules and knowing the operating mode of the converter for the closed-loop control is not required; hence, a single controller can be employed for a wide load and line changes in discontinuous and continuous conduction operations. Using the TMS320F2810 digital signal processor, the experimental response of the proposed controller is presented in different operating points of the buck/boost converter. During transition between different modes of the converter, the developed controller has a better dynamic response compared with previously reported adaptive nonlinear approach. Moreover, output voltage steady-state error is zero in different conditions.

A desirability function approach to a multiresponse problem is proposed considering process parameter fluctuation as well as distance-to-target of response and response variance. The variation of process parameters amplifies the variance of responses. It is called POE (propagation of error), which is defined as the standard deviation of the transmitted variability in the response as a function of process parameters. In order to obtain more robust process parameters, this variability should be considered in the optimization problem. The proposed method is illustrated using a rubber product case.

Instead of using signal-to-noise ratio, we attempt to optimize both the mean and variance responses using dual response optimization technique. The alternative experimental strategy analyzes a robust parameter design problem to obtain the best settings that give a target condition on the mean while minimizing its variance. The mean and variance are treated as the two responses of interest to be optimized. Unlike to the crossed array and combined array approaches, our experimental setup requires replicated runs for each control factor's treatment under noise sampling. When the postulated response models are true, they enable the coefficients to be estimated and the desired performance measure to be analyzed more efficiently. The procedure and illustrative example are given for the dual response optimization techniques of nonlinear goal programming.

In a general tendency that DBMS is used as a tool for storing large size of triple knowledge, it still remains in issue that which DBMS schema should be designed for storing, managing, inferring, and querying the triple knowledge efficiently. In this paper, we present, in the view point of efficient query process, a method that processes a query using Expanded Class-Property Views (ECPV) and, as a result, improvement in response time. The response time of DBMS-based inference systems is proportioned to table size and the number of table join operations. The more query is complex, the more join operations it requires, and the longer response time it requires. ECPV is a table obtained by processing possible join operations before queries. To use ECPV in the query process, SPARQL queries should be converted into corresponding ECPV-based SQL queries. This paper describes the conversion process and shows the improvement in response time by experiments.

A 2-D digital filter with rational frequency response can be expanded into an infinite sequence of filterins operations. Each filtering operation can be implemented by convolution with a Low-order 20D finite-extent impulse response. If a convergence constraint is satisfied, the sequence of estimates will approach the desired output signal. In practice, as the number of iterations is finite, the frequency response implemented by iterative computations is an approximation to the desired rational frequency response.
This study was conducted to evaluate the industry foodservice management practices and to suggest guidelines for the effective foodservice management. The survey for the analysis was conducted through the questionnaires to dietitians. They were divided into two groups : the site color worker and the blue color worker. The questionnaires were received for a response rate of 73.2%. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS programs for descriptive analysis, $x^2$ test, T-test, F-test, and Fisher's LSD. The results of the study can be summarized as follows : 1) The level of education of dietitians and food cost in the employee feeding operations for the blue color worker was lower than the employee feeding operations for the white color worker. 2) The labor productivity indices were not significantly different according to types of workers. But in the employee feeding operations for the blue color worker, full-time foodservice employees worked more than 10.7 hour per week than their counterpart. This indicates the full-time foodservice employees in the employee feeding operations for the blue color worker performed more loaded work compared to the employee feeding operations for the white color worker. 3) Equipped rate of facilities in the employee feeding operations for the blue color worker was low especially in the food preparation and cooking processes.

This study analyzes the structure of the variations In the domestic bank earnings and examines their dynamic features by estimating the short-run response and the long-run adjustment Process after the changes in financial market variables. A system of the equations for the bank stock price index and KOSPI is formulated to utilize the whole information in the market and simultaneously estimated to identify the relationships between the market variables and the bank earnings. Since the bank stock price is found to be responsive to changes in none of the market variables in the short run, while being relatively responsive to dollar exchange rate and business state, It implies that a good economic conditions and a stable foreign exchange rate should be maintained to Improve the level of the stock price In the long run. In addition, the dynamic structure of the responses of the bank stock price index and KOSPI to the initial changes in the market variable are compared and anlayzed. The response of the bank stock price appears to take much longer in adjusting to the long-run eouilibrium level than that of KOSPI. As a result, the cumulative response of the bank stock price index over time is found much bigger than that of HOSPI.
