  • This paper presents a novel, highly sensitive condenser microphone with a flexure hinge diaphragm. We used the finite-element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the mechanical and acoustic performance of the condenser microphone with a hinge diaphragm. And we fabricated the miniature condenser microphones with area of 1.5 mm${\times}$1.5 mm. From the simulation results, we confirmed that the maximum displacements at the center of flexure hinge diaphragms are several hundred times, compared with flat diaphragms. The sensitivities of fabricated miniature microphones are about $12.87{\mu}V/Pa$ at 1 kHz under a low bias voltage of 1 V, and the frequency response is flat upto 13 kHz.

  • The frequency response analysis of complex impedance spectra using small perturbation ac impedance spectroscopy is an informative method of OLED performance characterization and lifetime analysis. Using simple RC equivalent circuit mode,l macroscopic nonliniear transport properties of semiconductive emission/transport layers can be analyzed and parameterized. We present the bias voltage dependence and aging effect in impedance spectra measured from an ITO/CuPC/TPD/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al OLED device, and discuss possible failure mechanism based on impedance model parameters.

  • When Francis turbines operate at partial load, residual swirl in the draft tube causes low-frequency pulsation of pressure and power output. Scale effects and system response may bias the prediction of prototype behavior based on laboratory tests, but could be overcome by means of a 1D analytical model. This paper deals with the two most important features of such a model, the compliance and the source of excitation. In a distributed-parameter version, compliance should be represented as an exponential function of local pressure. Lack of similarity due to different Froude number can thus be compensated. The normally unknown gas content in the vortex cavity has significant influence on the pulsation, and should therefore be measured and considered as a test parameter.

  • Under recent dramatic declines in response rates, various procedures have been considered among survey practitioners to reduce nonresponse in order to avoid its potential impairment to the inference. In the random digit dialing telephone surveys, substantial efforts are often required to obtain the initial contact for the screener interview. To reduce a burden with higher data collection costs, refusal conversion can be administered only to a random portion of the sample, reducing nonresponse (bias) with an expense of sample variability increment due to the associated weight adjustment. In this paper, we provide ways to determine the optimal subsampling rate using a linear cost model. Our approach for refusal subsampling is to predetermine a random portion from the full sample and to apply refusal conversion efforts if needed only to the subsample.

  • In this paper, a computational analysis using a lumped system model is performed to investigate the hemodynamics of coronary circulation under the operation of T-PLS relevant to the cardiac arrest cases. The coronary circulation system is assumed to be comprised of three compartments: coronary arteries, coronary capillaries, and coronary veins. The effect of myocardial muscle contraction or relaxation is represented by temporal variations in the bias pressure. To verify the present method, we analyzed the coronary circulation for normal case and then compared the results with the existing data. Numerical results on the cardiac arrest model showed that T-PLS can increase LAD flow significantly.

  • Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation can severely weaken the accuracy of ranging and localization in wireless location systems. NLOS bias mitigation techniques have recently been proposed to relieve the NLOS effects, but positively rely on the capability to accurately distinguish between LOS and NLOS propagation scenarios. This paper proposes an energy-capture-based NLOS identification method for LDR-UWB systems, based on the analysis of the characteristics of the channel impulse response (CIR). With this proposed energy capture method, the probability of successfully identifying NLOS is much improved than the existing methods, such as the kurtosis method, the strongest path compare method, etc. This NLOS identification method can be employed in adaptive modulation scheme to decrease bit error ratio (BER) level for certain signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The BER performance with the adaptive modulation can be significantly enhanced by selecting proper modulation method with the knowledge of channel information from the proposed NLOS identification method.

  • The study seeks to cooperate with the investigation of a fire investigation based on public-private partnership. Fire protection systems provide a wide variety of viewpoints from the perspectives of design, construction, management, maintenance, maintenance and maintenance systems at a particular point in time, construction, management, and maintenance systems. What is controversial is that there are illegal activities such as illegal activities of the Patent Office, misconduct of construction work and unreasonable construction of construction works. As a theoretical framework, the present study identified the four key elements of a successful disaster response system : responsiveness, control, professionalism, and bias.

  • This study investigates the feasibility of incorporating student evaluations of peer review interactions into the course grade for an EFL writing course. The use of such evaluations offers a way to grade the process of writing more directly than using writing portfolios alone. Moreover, evaluating peer review interactions highlights the social aspect of writing, which is valuable in the current post-process climate in writing instruction. The 18 members of a semester-long EFL writing course at a Korean university were trained in peer response for one half of a semester; then performed evaluations of peer review interactions during the second half of the semester as part of their writing course. Student evaluations were examined to reveal whether any bias occurred due to relative age, gender, major, or question type. The results revealed no such biases. Therefore, it is suggested that students are capable of providing fair evaluations of peers, which means the evaluations can be factored into the course grade in order to evaluate the social aspect of the writing process.
