  • The response histories and distribution of dynamic interlaminar stresses in composite laminated plates under free vibration and thermal load is studied based on a thermoelastodynamic differential equations. The stacking sequence of the laminated plates may be arbitrary. The temperature change is considered as a linear function of coordinates in planes of each layer. The dynamic mode of displacements is considered as triangle series. The in-plane stresses are calculated by using geometric equations and generalized Hooke's law. The interlaminar stresses are evaluated by integrating the 3-D equations of equilibrium, and utilizing given boundary conditions and continuity conditions of stresses between layers. The response histories and distribution of interlaminar stress under thermal load are presented for various vibration modes and stacking sequence. The theoretical analyses and results are of certain significance in practical engineering application.

  • A dynamic analytical solution for a simply supported, rectangular functionally graded plate with a porous middle layer under time-dependent load based on a refined third-order shear deformation theory with a cubic variation of in-plane displacements according to the thickness and linear/quadratic transverse displacement is presented. The solution achieved in the trigonometric series form and rests on the Green's function method. Two porosity types and their influence on material properties, and mechanical behavior are considered. The network of pores is assumed to be empty or filled with low-pressure air, and the material properties are calculated using the power-law distribution idealization. Numerical calculations have been carried out to demonstrate the accuracy of the kinematic model for the dynamic problem, the effect of porosity, thickness of porous layers, power-law index, and type of loading on the dynamic response of an imperfect functionally graded material plate.

  • This paper presents a three-dimensional flexible pavement simulated in ANSYS subjected to moving vehicular load on the surface of the pavement typical for the road section in Nepal. The adopted finite element (FE) model of pavement is validated with the classical theoretical formulations for half-space pavement. The validated model is further utilized to understand the damping and dynamic response of the pavement. Transient analysis of the developed FE model is done to understand the time varying response of the pavement under a moving vehicle. The material properties of pavement considered in the analysis is taken from typical road section used in Nepal. The response quantities of pavement with nonlinear viscoelastic asphalt layer are found significantly higher compared to the elastic pavement counterpart. The structural responses of the pavement decrease with increase in the vehicle speed due to less contact time between the tires of the vehicle and the road pavement.

  • This paper aims to analyze the dynamic response of thermoelectric carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams under moving harmonic load resting on Pasternak elastic foundation. The governing equations of thermoelectric CNTRC beam are obtained based on the Karama shear deformation beam theory. The beams are resting on the Pasternak foundation. Previous articles have not performed the moving load mode with the analytical method. The exact solution for the transverse and axial dynamic response is presented using the Laplace transform. A comparison of previous studies has been published, where a good agreement is observed. Finally, some examples were used to analyze, such as excitation frequency, voltage, temperature, spring constant factors, the volume fraction of Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), the velocity of a moving harmonic load, and their influence on axial and transverse dynamic and maximum deflections. The advantages of the proposed method compared to other numerical methods are zero reduction of the error percentage that exists in numerical methods.

  • Load redistribution is a critical resource in computer system. In sender-initiated load redistribution algorithms, the sender continues to send unnecessary request messages for load transfer until a receiver is found while the system load is heavy. These unnecessary request messages result in inefficient communications, low CPU utilization, and low system throughput in distributed systems. To solve these problems, we propose a genetic algorithm based approach for improved sender-initiated load redistribution in distributed systems. Compared with the conventional sender-initiated algorithms, the proposed algorithm decreases the response time and task processing time.

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the dynamic characteristics of RC slabs. For this purpose, the 20-node solid element has been used to discretize the RC slabs into two parts of concrete and rebar. The material non-linearity considering elasto-visco plastic model and the smeared crack model have been adopted in the finite element formulation. The applied load can handle step load, load intensity of harmonic load, area of distributed load and frequency. The frequency of harmonic load has an significant effect on dynamic behaviour in terms of displacement. As the frequency is increased, the effect of load amplitude is more serious. Especially, if the frequency of harmonic load exceeds 30 Hz, it is noted that the displacement by harmonic load is greater than that by step load. In case of harmonic load, the damping effect shows no certain tendency with respect to frequency of load. In details, the damping is effective when the frequency of harmonic load is 2 Hz, but there is no consistent tendency according to damping ratio. The dynamic response when the frequency of harmonic load is 3 Hz shows same result for undamped case as well as for damped case with 5% damping ratio. It is also noted that we can get the largest deflection for damped case with 1% damping ratio. However, there is not any damping effect when the frequency of harmonic load is greater than 4 Hz.

  • The dynamic bending response of single walled carbon nanotube reinforced composite (SWCNTRC) plates subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loading are investigated in this paper. The mechanical load is considered as wind pressure for dynamic bending responses of SWCNTRC plate. The dynamic version of the High Order shear deformation Theory (HSDT) for a composite plate with Matrix and SWCNTRC plate is first formulated. Distribution of fibers through the thickness of the SWCNTRC plate could be uniform or functionally graded (FG). The dynamic displacement response is predicted by using Nemarck integration method. The effective material properties of SWCNTRC are estimated by using micromechanics based modeling approach. The effect of different environmental condition, volume fraction of SWCNT, Width-to-thickness ratio, wind pressure, different SWCNTRC-FG plates, boundary condition, E1/E2 ratio, different temperature on dynamic displacement response is investigated. The dynamic displacement response is compared with the available literature and it shows good agreement.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy finite element model for the analysis of structures in the presence of multiple uncertainties. A new methodology to evaluate the cumulative effect of multiple uncertainties on structural response is developed in the present work. This is done by modifying Muhanna's approach for handling single uncertainty. Uncertainty in load and material properties is defined by triangular membership functions with equal spread about the crisp value. Structural response is obtained in terms of fuzzy interval displacements and rotations. The results are further post-processed to obtain interval values of bending moment, shear force and axial forces. Membership functions are constructed to depict the uncertainty in structural response. Sensitivity analysis is performed to evaluate the relative sensitivity of displacements and forces to uncertainty in structural parameters. The present work demonstrates the effectiveness of fuzzy finite element model in establishing sharp bounds to the uncertain structural response in the presence of multiple uncertainties.

  • The spacer grid set is a part of a nuclear fuel assembly. The set has a spring and the spring supports the fuel rods safely. Although material nonlinearity is involved in the deformation of the spring, nonlinearity has not been considered in design of the spring. Recently a nonlinear response structural optimization method has been developed using equivalent loads. It is called nonlinear response optimization equivalent loads (NROEL). In NROEL, the external loads are transformed to the equivalent loads (EL) for linear static analysis and linear response optimization is carried out based on the EL in a cyclic manner until the convergence criteria are satisfied. EL is the load set which generates the same response field of linear analysis as that of nonlinear analysis. Shape optimization of the spring is carried out based on EL. The objective function is defined by minimizing the maximum stress in the spring while mass is limited and the support force of the spring is larger than a certain value. The results are verified by nonlinear response analysis. ABAQUS is used for nonlinear response analysis and GENESIS is employed for linear response optimization.

  • This paper presents neural load torque observer that is used to deadbeat load torque observer and gain compensation by parameter estimator As a result, the response of the PMSM(permanent magnet synchronous motor) follows that nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is composed of a neural deadbeat observer To reduce the noise effect, the post-filter implemented by MA(moving average) process, is adopted. The parameter compensator with RLSM (recursive least square method) parameter estimator is adopted to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller The parameter estimator is combined with a high performance neural load torque observer to resolve the problems. The neural network is trained in on-line phases and it is composed by a feed forward recall and error back-propagation training. During the normal operation, the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. As a result, the proposed control system has a robust and precise system against the load torque and the Parameter variation. A stability and usefulness are verified by computer simulation and experiment.
