It is very important to provide a parameterized quality of service (QoS) using traffic specification (TSPEC), such as mean data rate, maximum burst size, and peak data rate, when packets from the application layer need to be transmitted with guaranteed services in a high-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN). As medium resources are limited, the optimal medium time required for each device needs to be estimated to share the resources efficiently among devices. This paper proposes a variable-service interval-based resource allocation algorithm to efficiently make a reservation of medium resources based on a parameterized QoS. In other words, the proposed algorithm calculates the number of medium access slots (MASs) based on TSPEC, local resources, and local conditions and determines suitable locations for the MASs within a superframe to accommodate more devices. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can accommodate more devices and has greater than 10% resource allocation efficiency in an HR-WPAN compared to existing schemes.

In this paper, we propose a generalized processor sharing - dynamic resource allocation (GPS-DRA) scheme which allocates the required amount of resources to each hop dynamically in cellular-based multi-hop systems. In the hybrid-distributed system considered in this paper, a central controller such as a base station (BS) should allocate resources properly to each hop. However, due to changing channel condition with time, it is difficult to allocate as much amount of resources as each hop needs for transmission. GPS-DRA scheme allocates the required amount of resources dynamically to each hop based on the amount of resources used in previous frames by each hop. The amount of control overhead generated by GPS-DRA scheme can be very small because a central controller doesn't need to collect all link information for resource allocation. Our simulation results show that channel utilization increased about 16% and cell capacity increased about 65% compared to those of fixed resource allocation (FRA) scheme.
For successful operation of waterflooding which is one of secondary recovery methods, suitable water injection allocation is important to increase oil recovery. Well allocation factor(WAF) which is one way to quantify the injector and producer connectivity, is utilized to allocate water injection of waterflooding. Static WAF cannot represent the field condition and can induce incorrect value. To compensate for limitation of static WAF, modified WAF which includes several parameters that affect patterns including well radius, distance between wells, and injection rates is proposed. In this study, static and modified WAFs were applied to injection optimization of waterflooding and results by each WAF were compared. In case of modified WAFs, produced water were less and produced oil were more than case of static WAF especially in big change of distance between producer and injector. Therefore, modified WAFs can allocate water injection more efficiently than static WAF.

The Waikato River is New Zealand's longest River, though relatively small on international scales. It drains the central North Island and has New Zealand's largest lake (Lake Taupo) at its headwaters. The upper reaches have sustained flows fed by large aquifers which are recharged by rainfall events providing relatively constant river flows, whereas the lower reaches respond more directly to rainfall events having more peaky flows after rainfall and extreme low flows during dry periods. Consumptive allocation from the river is relatively low with only about 3% of the mean annual flow being allocated. However, more than seven times the river's flow is allocated for non-consumptive purposes before discharging to the Tasman Sea. The majority of this non-consumptive allocation is for hydro power generation and as cooling water at both thermal and geothermal power stations which produce up to 25% of New Zealand's electricity. The upper half of the river has been heavily modified with the construction of eight dams for power generation. This has resulted in a succession of cascading dams replacing the previously uncontrolled river. The Waikato River also provides drinking water for Auckland City (NZ's largest city) and Hamilton City (NZ's 4th largest city). In recent years there has also been considerable growth in water requirements for pasture irrigation to support the intensification of dairy farming in the catchment. Operators of the power stations are concerned that any further consumptive allocation will further reduce their ability to generate electricity. The Waikato Regional Council, who is charged with managing the river and allocation of water, has recently set new rules for managing the conflicting allocation demands on the Waikato River. This has resulted in an end to further allocation of water where it results in a loss of water for electricity generation from renewable resources (fresh water and geothermal water). The exception to this is the prioritisation of water for municipal supplies ahead of other consumptive uses such as industries and irrigators.
The main purpose of this study is that financial resources allocation criteria are examined closely between central government and local government as well as among local government in a river basin. Financial resources allocation principles reflecting water use, flood control, and water quality improvement are reviewed and derived two categories such as common factors and individual factors. The weights of each factor are assigned by analytical hierarchy process. The results of applying four river basins (Han river, Geum river, Nakdong river, Yeongsan-seumjin river) show that rational raising of financial resources are different according to the characteristics of each river basin. Findings are as follows: In case of Han river and Yeongsan Seumjin river, benefit principle and polluter pay principle by individual factors are more attractive than other Principles. Solvency principle by common factor is more acceptable than the other principles in Nakdong-river and Geum-river.

Recently, most of countries in the world are investing huge amount of capital for the infrastructure of logistics and trying to gain dominating position in logistics. To play the role of important hub in logistics, an efficient, flexible, and fault-tolerant transportation process should be developed. Minimization of transportation cost and timely deliveries in the unpredictable environment are a few of the important issues in logistics. This study suggests a way of transporting goods to destinations at the minimal cost and with the minimal delay by optimally allocating transporting resources. Various attributes in transportation such as due date, priority etc. are also considered. Appropriate transporting resources for each work item is selected by calculating the weighted sum of the cost factor and the delay factor assuming that initial sequences of work items are given. A policy to reallocate transporting resources is also suggested when work items or transporting resources are added or deleted because of accidents or disturbances. This policy provides adaptability to the allocation methodology which enables the system to cope with changing environment by controlling various attributes in transportation. Genetic algorithm is used for this approach.

In this paper, we propose a new minimum resources allocation algorithm for optimal design automation. In the proposed algorithm, the operation are allocated to functional units so that the number of interconnection wires between functional units can be minimized. The registers are allocated to the maximal clusters generated by the minimal cluster partitioning algorithm. Finally, the interconnection is minimized by removing the duplicated inputs of multiplexers and exchanging the inputs across multiplexers. The efficiency of the proposed allocation algorithm is shown by experiments using benchmark examples.
Allocation of computing resources is a crucial issue when dealing with a huge number of tasks to be completed according to a given deadline and cost constraints. The task scheduling to several resources (e.g. grid, cloud or a supercomputer) with different characteristics is not trivial, especially if a trade-off in terms of time and cost is considered. We propose an allocation approach able to fulfill the given requirements about time and cost through the use of optimizing techniques and an adaptive behavior. Simulated productions of tasks have been run in order to evaluate the characteristics of the proposed approach.
In this study. differences in attention allocation patterns between expert and novIce pilots were investigated by a verbal protocol when pilots were engaged in a task during the instrument flight. Ten pilots including experts and novices were participated to conduct a pre-determined task(a fix-to-fix) on F-5E Cockpit Procedure Trainer Simulator. Experts show better performance as expected with more stable variations in speed. altitude. and attitude. In attention allocation patterns. novices allocated about 83% of attentional resources on the primary instruments (airspeed indicator. altitude indicator. and attitude) relating to the task of the basic flight while experts spent 57%. This difference in the availability of attentional resources allowed expert pilots to accomplish the task better than novices. In other words. training a pilot should consider a program for building up wider instrument scanning patterns to become an expert in a shorter time.
