  • Desktop grid computing is the computing paradigm that can execute large-scale computing jobs using the desktop resources with heterogeneity and volatility. However, such the computing environment can not guarantee the stability and reliability of task execution because the desktop resources with different performance can freely participate and leave in task execution. Therefore, in this paper, we design resource grouping scheme using k-means clustering algorithm with an aim to provide desktop grid computing with the stability and reliability of task execution. Moreover, we conduct resource grouping using the execution log data of actual desktop grid systems and present application methods of desktop resource groups to fault-tolerance.

  • In this paper, we propose a CAC exploring a RA based dynamic spectrum hole grouping for secondary users' QoS enhancement in multi-classes cognitive radio networks. The RA based dynamic spectrum hole grouping uses SU multi-classes overlaying spectrum structure suggested here. Multiclass SUs are divided into real and non real, and real SUs have a priority for resource utilization against non real. The amount of resource required by real SUs is supported by Wiener prediction and the dynamic spectrum hole grouping, and that required by non real SU is supported by the remained available amount without prediction. In the simulations, we compare the proposed CAC performances using the dynamic spectrum hole grouping in terms of SU connection's blocking(dropping) rate and resource utilization efficiency according to multi-classes traffic characteristics, and then we show the proposed CAC can guarantee the desired QoS of multi-classes secondary users.

  • In this paper, we propose a simultaneous multithreading (SMT) architecture that improves instruction throughput by exploiting instruction level parallelism (ILP) and thread level parallelism (TLP). The proposed architecture issues and completes instructions belonging to the same thread in exact program order. The issue and completion policy greatly reduces the design complexity and hardware cost of our architecture, compared with others that employ out-of-order issue and completion. On the other hand, when the instructions belong to different threads, the issue and completion orders for those instructions may not necessarily be identical to the fetch order. The processor issues instructions simultaneously from multiple threads to functional units by exploiting ILP and TLP, and by dynamic resource sharing. That parallel execution notably improves performance and resource utilization with minimal additional hardware cost over the conventional superscalar processors. This paper proposes an SMT architecture with grouping as well as one without grouping. Without grouping, all threads dynamically and flexibly share most resources. On the other hand, in the SMT architecture with grouping, in which resources and threads are divided into several groups for design simplification, resources are shared only among threads belonging to the same group as those resources. Simulation results show that our processors with four and eight threads improve performance by three or more times over the conventional superscalar processor with comparable execution resources and policies, and that reasonable grouping reduces the design complexity of SMT processors with little negative effect on performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic spectrum hole grouping method that changes the grouping range of spectrum hole according to the resources amount required by secondary users in wideband spectrum cognitive wireless networks, and then the proposed method is applied to channel allocation for the secondary user service. The proposed method can improve waste of resources in the existing static spectrum hole grouping in virtue of grouping dynamically as much the predicted spectrum holes resources as secondary users require. Simulation results show that channel allocation method with the proposed dynamic grouping outperforms that with the static grouping method in resources utilization under acceptable secondary user service performance.

  • D2D(Device-to-Device) communication is a promising technology to improve the system capacity and spectral efficiency. By sharing the same radio resources with cellular user equipments, D2D communications can significantly enhance the overall spectral efficiency. However, it may cause interference between D2D link and cellular link. So, careful resource allocation and interference coordination between them are very important and need to be properly handled. This paper proposes a radio resource allocation scheme that decreases interference through the use of area grouping and D2D pair grouping. Simulations results are provided to verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme in terms of the number of assigned resource blocks and computational complexity.

  • Various changes in medical environments including growing elderly population, chronic diseases, deepening competition among hospitals since opening to foreign medical service, economic strategy for improvement of profit system have caused hospitals to be specialized. In this backgrounds, the purpose of this study is to receive basic data for architectural planning on the spatial organization of outpatient department in general hospital. The results of this study were as follows; First, major changes of outpatient department in general hospital are composed of 'co-work in medical examination and treatment', 'decentralization of diagnosis and treatment(D/T)' and 'patient-oriented medical service'. Changes by co-work system include appearance of medical offices for co-work, activation of specialized clinics, grouping of E/T section for outpatient and various types of specialized centers. Second, the grouping of E/T sections means the modification of E/T system and organization in general hospitals, and a new spatial organization will be needed. Third, the types of specialized centers are getting varied. they are classified into several types including disease-resource, social stratum-resource, human organ-resource, health-resource, rehabilitation-resource, alternative medical center and so on.

  • In this paper, a joint PHY-MAC layer optimized resource allocation scheme for OFDMA based micro base stations is investigated. We propose cross-layer optimized two-stage resource allocation scheme including cross-layer functional description and control information flow between PHY-MAC layers. The proposed two-stage resource allocation scheme consists of a user grouping stage and a resource allocation stage. In the user grouping stage, users are divided into a macro base station user group and a micro base station user group based on the PHY-MAC layer characteristics of each user. In the resource allocation stage, a scheduling scheme and an allotment of resources are determined. In the proposed scheme, diversity and adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) schemes are exploited as schedulers. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme increases the average cell throughput about 40~80 % compared to the conventional system without micro base stations.

  • Current researches in the Cloud focus on the appropriate interactions of cloud components in a large-scale system implementation. However, the current designs do not include intelligent methods like grouping the similar service providers based on their properties and integrating adaptive schemes for load distribution which can promote effective sharing of resource. This paper proposes an efficient virtualization of services by grouping the cloud providers to improve the service provisioning. The grouping of cloud service providers based on a cluster analysis collects the similar and related services in one group. The adaptive load balancing supports the service provisioning of the cloud system where it manages the load distribution within the group using an adaptive scheme. The proposed virtualization mechanism (GRALB) showed good results in minimizing message overhead and throughput performance compared to other methods.

  • This study is to estimate the factor weights of the reasons for decreases in marine fishery resources using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Furthermore, it classifies 20 fishes under a fishery resource recovery plan into various groups of fishes according to these factor weights using the non-hierarchial cluster analysis. The factors of decreases in marine fishery resources are identified as bio-ecological, technology-system, economic-business, and fishing village-society factors. Two of the most important factors of decreases in resource are turned out to be the economic-business and bio-ecological factors, estimated as 31% and 30% respectively. The technology-system and fishing village-society factors are estimated as 21% and 18% respectively. The study utilizes non-hierarchical cluster analysis in order to classify 20 fishes into 2, 3, and 4 groups. K-means cluster analysis is applied for grouping in conjunction with ANOVA to identify statistical differences in factors. Once again, the economic-business and bio-economic factors play main role in grouping 2-groups of fishes case. The third group of fishes in addition to the previous 2 groups of fishes appears as those 4 factors of decrease evenly play about the same role at a 3-groups of fishes case. Finally, the economic-business and bio-economic factors are turned out to be evenly important in the 4th group once there are 4-groups of fishes.
