The feasibility of using an adaptive resonance network (ART2) with unsupervised learning capability for too] wear detection in turning operations is investigated. Specifically, acoustic emission (AE) and cutting force signals were measured during machining, the multichannel AR coefficients of the two signals were calculated and then presented to the network to make a decision on tool wear. If the presented features are significantly different from previously learned patterns associated with a fresh tool, the network will recognize the difference and form a new category m worn tool. The experimental results show that tool wear can be effectively detected with or without minimum prior training using the self-organization property of the ART2 network.

For the designing propulsion shafting of ship, shaft diameters are usually calculated according to the Society's rules and other scantlings such as a shaft length, coupling and taper parts, etc., are decided according to calculated diameters. And then, the torsional vibration, the lateral vibration and shaft alignment should be reviewed to check whether the resonance points of torsional or lateral vibration appear within the normal operating speed range and the shaft alignment is reasonable. If the results of calculations are unsatisfactory, this process should be repeated until the final condition is determined and the process of this work takes much time to carry out. To simplify the above tedious processes, authors have developed a computer program to fulfill the above design processes at once. This program takes aim at reducing the manual calculating work associated with the propulsion shafting of ship. To confirm the availability of developed computer program, several propulsion shaftings which are driven by diesel engines, have been analysed. The results calculated by authors developed computer program show comparatively good agreements with those of the actual propulsion shafting.
A vibration monitoring system for a small size wind turbine (WIT) is established and operated. The monitoring system consists of monolithic integrated chip accelerometer for vibration monitoring, anemometers for wind data acquisition and auxiliary sensors for atmospheric data. Using the monitoring system, vibration response of a 6kW stand alone WIT generator is investigated. Acceleration data of the WIT tower under various operation condition is acquired in real time using LabVIEW and the data are remotely transferred from the test site to the laboratory in school by internet. Vibration response characteristics of the tower structure are diagnosed in the aspect of stability of W/T. Wind data and electrical power performance are also investigated with the stability problem.

In this paper, present a finite element method to reduce vibration of a cylindrical structure by avoiding resonance between motor and structure. To analysis the modes of structure, some different FE models (different places and combinations of ribs) of the structure with free-free condition were built and compared.

The determination of firing order is very significant procedure in initial stage of design for medium speed diesel engine. Generally, the selection of firing order has been accomplished in view of minimum excitation forces condition. In this paper all possible firing orders under the given number of cylinder were considered to decide the optimum. Meanwhile torsional vibration characteristics using the phase vector sum method and minimum excitation force concept were applied. From these results, some superior cases were selected. And then, the torsional vibration response analysis and the resonance characteristics of engine structure were investigated for the final decision.
Primary central nervous system (CNS) melanoma is a rare condition that accounts for only 1% of all melanomas. A 34-year-old Korean female presented with a two-month history of progressive weakness in both legs. Spinal magnetic resonance image (MRI) revealed a spinal cord tumor at the level of T4, which was hyperintense on T1-weighted imaging and hypointense on T2-weighted imaging. The intradural and extramedullary tumor was completely resected and diagnosed as melanoma. There were no metastatic lesions. At three years after surgery, the patient is still alive, with no evidence of tumor recurrence. We present the details of this case along with a comprehensive review of spinal cord melanoma.

A case study of an active transmitting patch antenna revealed a characteristic loop locus of DC power versus RF output power as drive frequency was varied, with an operational bandwidth substantially smaller than the impedance bandwidth of the radiator. An approximate simulation technique, based on separation of the output capacitance of the power transistor, yielded easily visualized plots of power dependence on internal load impedance, and a simple interpretation of the experimental results in terms of a near-resonance condition between the output capacitance and output packaging inductance.
Ferroresonance is a resonance condition between a nonlinear iron core of a potential transformer (PT) and a capacitance. It can lead to PT voltages several times the normal equipment ratings, and cause the isolation broken and damage to equipments near the PT. This paper proposes a analysis method of PT ferroresonance in the time domain. Based on the simplified equivalent circuit, a differential equation was found and the flux was calculated when ferroresonance generates. The forced response and natural response were also analyzed. The performance of proposed analysis method was verified with the EMTP-RV generated data. The method can help analysis chaotic ferroresonance and periodic ferroresonance.
Torsional vibration analysis is necessary at design stage to ensure the reliability of a system particularly when the driven machine is a reciprocating compressor. This paper contains the results of torsional vibration analysis and fatigue strength evaluation for 540 kW compressor driving motor. Torsional vibration analysis showed that the $2^{nd}$ torsional mode of the entire shaft system has the possibility of resonance with the $14^{th}$ order excitation of compressor and twin line frequency of motor at operating speed. Therefore, the analyses were required to ensure the structural reliability of the motor. The fatigue strength was evaluated for the shaft and inner fans using the results of forced vibration analysis. It is concluded that the motor has sufficient fatigue strength under normal operating condition.

In this paper, the accurate end position control method of ultraprecision machine tool post using piezoelectric material as an micro positonong devics is presented. This method employs the classical PID feedback and uses an additional notch filter which eliminates the resonance characteristics of controlled plant. And the simple predictor is added to make use of the future value of desired input for better tracking performance. To show the feasibilty of proposed method, the PC-based experimental apparacy can be obtained. Using method, Al specimen of diameter 100mm was cut under practical machining condition to test the practicability of proposed method.
