Clinical resistance to chemotherapeutic agents is one of the major hindrances in the treatment of human cancers. EHZ2 is involved in drug resistance and is overexpressed in drug-resistant cancer cell lines. In this study, we investigated the effects of EHZ2 on cisplatin -resistance in A549/DDP and AGS/DDP cells. EHZ2 mRNA and protein were found to be significantly overexpressed in A549/DDP and AGS/DDP cells, compared to parental cells. EHZ2 siRNA successfully silenced EHZ2 mRNA and protein expression. Proliferation was inhibited and drug resistance to cisplatin was improved. Flow cytometry showed that silencing of EHZ2 arrested A549/DDP and AGS/DDP cells in the G0/G1 phase, increasing apoptosis, rh-123 fluorescence intensity and caspase-3/8 activities. Silencing of EHZ2 also significantly reduced the mRNA and protein expression levels of cyclin D1 and MDR1,while up-regulating p15, p21, p27 and miR-218 in A549/DPP cells. Furthermore, silencing of EHZ2 also significantly increased the expression level of tumor suppressor factor miR-218. We also found down-regulating EHZ2 expression increased methylation in A549/DDP and AGS/DDP cells. This study demonstrates that drug resistance can be effectively reversed in human cisplatin-resistant lung and gastric cancer cells through delivery of siRNAs targeting EHZ2.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Brucella infections and humans usually contract this disease from close contact with infected animals or their products, usually via the ingestion of cheese or crude milk. Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and Pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines play an important role in susceptibility/resistance and the immunopathogenesis of Brucella infection. These cytokines are crucial factors in the initiation and progression of protective immunity against Brucella infection but the role of MIF has not been well studied in the human response to intracellular microbes. This study was designed to investigate the effect of MIF expression on Brucella susceptibility. A total of 85 positive rose Bengal tests and 24 samples from healthy individuals were collected for this study and subjected to polymerase chain reaction assays (PCR) of the bcsp31 diagnostic gene. MIF concentrations were evaluated using Enzyme-Linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the results showed that 46 (54%) of the rose Bengal test samples were positive and 39 (46%) were negative for bcsp31 (p ≤ 0.05) and used as the gold standard for all of the comparisons in this study. The ELISA results indicate that the mean concentration of MIF was significantly higher in patients with positive rose Bengal tests when compared to the control groups and that its concentration increases with increasing age in both the patient and control groups (p ≤ 0.05).
This paper presents a Technology-CAD (TCAD) simulation of the characteristics of crystalline Si pillar array solar cells. The junction depth and the surface concentration of the solar cells were optimized to obtain the targeted sheet resistance of the emitter region. The diffusion model was determined by calibrating the emitter doping profile of the microscale silicon pillars. The dimension parameters determining the pillar shape, such as width, height, and spacing were varied within a simulation window from ${\sim}2{\mu}m$ to $5{\mu}m$. The simulation showed that increasing pillar width (or diameter) and spacing resulted in the decrease of current density due to surface area loss, light trapping loss, and high reflectance. Although increasing pillar height might improve the chances of light trapping, the recombination loss due to the increase in the carrier's transfer length canceled out the positive effect to the photo-generation component of the current. The silicon pillars were experimentally formed by photoresist patterning and electroless etching. The laboratory results of a fabricated Si pillar solar cell showed the efficiency and the fill factor to be close to the simulation results.
The number of single family is increasing because of individualism, resistance toward patriarchal family system, forced independence of women, absence of proper spouse and divorce rate, and aging. This study is to find out welfare needs in order to make family welfare measures toward continuously increasing single family. Data analysis has been tried to accomplish the purpose of study by in-depth interview, and structural questions were asked according to characteristics and degree of communication. Difficulties that single testers go through are social prejudice, financial problems, emotional and psychological factor, reduction of social network, and health. Lack of publicity, limit of welfare beneficiary, lack of service are suggested as problems, and what needs to be changed are formation of self-reliance meeting, financial independence, preparation of health and one's declining years.
This study has been carried out to investigate into the difference of rolling life and rolling wear characteristics for various gray cast iron under unlubricated dry rolling condition by amsler type wear test with 9.09% sliding. The results obtained from this study are summerized as follows: 1) It has been found that the amount of rolling wear id decreased when tensile strength and hardness are low, and then the rolling life up to generation of abnormal wear is conspicuously increased. 2) At the given condition the amount of rolling wear has been found to decrease as carbon equivalent of gray cast iron increases and resistance of crack propagation is an important factor on improvement of wear characteristics. 3) The amount of rolling wear is increased with increasing rolling revolution and wear of gray cast iron under dry rolling condition is characterized by three modes; initial wear, stationary wear and abnormal wear. 4) It has been found that the amount of rolling wear is increased with increasing maximum compressive stress and extremely increased when maximum compressive stress is over 59.1kg.f/mm.
Insulation diagnostic tests for high voltage motor stator winding were conducted to analyze the insulation characteristics. Test motors were manufactured same factory and year(1996). Insulation characteristics of moisture winding are different from those of deteriorative winding. Insulation resistance and disscipation factor test results are sensitive to moisture winding. AC current, disscipation factor tip-up and PD test results are sensitive to deteriorative winding. Also, Capacitance value for stator winding insulation material has characteristic of increasing in moisture winding.
Diagnostic tests were performed in three high voltage motors. These tests included insulation resistance, polarization index, ac current, dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) and partial discharge magnitude. The rewind of motor stator insulation at rated voltage is assessed by the results of these tests. After completing the diagnostic tests, the stator windings of motors were subjected to gradually increasing ac voltage, until the insulation punctured. NO.1 and No.2 motors failed near rated voltage of 14.0 kV, respectively. These motors are lower that expected for good quality coils in 6.6 kV class motors. The breakdown voltage of No.3 motor was 15.0 kV.
Nonlinear static analysis is used to quantify the resistance of the structure to lateral deformation and to gauge the mode of deformation and intensity of local demands. A simple method for the nonlinear static analysis of complex building structures subjected to monotonically increasing horizontal loading(pushover analysis) is presented. The method is designed to be a part of new methodologies for the seismic design and evaluation of structures. A variety of existing pushover analysis procedures are currently being consolidated under programs such as ATC 40 and FEMA 273. And various techniques have been recommended, including the use of constant lateral force profiles and the use of adaptive and multimodal approaches. In this paper a modal pushover analysis using design response spectra of UBC 97 is proposed. Proposed method is compared against the method in FEMA 273 and ATC 40, and results of time history analysis.
Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis that predominantly affects children, and can result in coronary artery lesions (CAL). A patient with KD who is resistant to treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has a higher risk of developing CAL. Incomplete KD has increased in prevalence in recent years, and is another risk factor for the development of CAL. Although the pathogenesis of KD remains unclear, there has been increasing evidence for the role of genetic susceptibility to the disease since it was discovered in 1967. We retrospectively reviewed previous genetic research for known susceptibility genes in the pathogenesis of KD, IVIG resistance, and the development of CAL. This review revealed numerous potential susceptibility genes including genetic polymorphisms of ITPKC, CASP3, the transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ signaling pathway, B lymphoid tyrosine kinase, FCGR2A, KCNN2, and other genes, an imbalance of Th17/Treg, and a range of suggested future treatment options. The results of genetic research may improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of KD, and aid in the discovery of new treatment modalities for high-risk patients with KD.
