  • For construction of steel structures, thin steel plates have been often used and welding is the main manufacturing process. However, welding processes cause some problems(welding residual stresses, welding deformations, etc.). In these problems, welding deformation is extremely harmful to the safety of structures especially. Therefore, in this study, a numerical analysis program based on large deformation plate theory has been developed to analyze and predict the welding deformation in thin plates. From the result of numerical analyse, we can find two parameters, thermal cycles and mechanical restraints affecting the welding deformation of structures. It is considered that large difference of thermal cycles and mechanical restraints in the width direction bring about welding deformation. Results of simulation have the same tendency of deformation distribution in width direction as experimental formulas.

  • It is desirable but difficult to predict springback quantitatively and accurately for successful tool and process design in sheet stamping operations. The result of springback analysis by the finite element method (FEM) is sensitively influenced by numerical factors such as blank element size, number of integration points, punch velocity, contact algorithm, etc. In the present work, a parametric study by Taguchi method is performed in order to evaluate the influence of numerical factors on the result of springback analysis quantitatively and to obtain the combination of numerical factors which gives the best approximation to experimental data. Since springback is determined by the residual stress after forming process, it is important to evaluate stress distribution accurately. The oscillation in the time history curve of stress obtained by the dynamic-explicit finite element method says that the stress solution at termination time is in very unstable state. Therefore, a variability study is also carried out in this study in order to assess the stability of implicit springback analysis starting from the stress solution by explicit forming simulation. The U-draw bending process, one of the NUMISHEET '93 benchmark problems, is adopted as an application model because it is most popular one for evaluating the springback characteristic.

  • Overlay welding is carried out to improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and heat resistance on the surface of the chemical plant and steelmaking plant structures. In overlay welding, control of the bead size and the temperature distribution of weldment are particularly important because that is directly connected to the improvement of quality and productivity. The aim of this study is to model the welding heat source that is very useful to analyze the bead size and temperature distribution of weldment. To find the welding heat source model, numerical analyses are performed by using FE software MSC-marc.

  • For this study, SM45C steel rods using generally for power transmission shafts and machine components was selected and welded by butt-GMAW method. And then it was studied about estimation of fatigue strength and the region of infinite life by Haigh diagram using Goodman's equation. Fatigue strength in weld zone presents highly in order of the boundary between deposited metal zone and heat affected zone, deposited metal zone, heat affected zone. This result agrees with distribution of hardness in weld zone. Fatigue strength in base metal zone presents highly compared with weld zone in low cycles between $10^4$ cycles and $10^6$cycles, but it presents the lowest fatigue strength on the order of heat affected zone in the vicinity of $10^6$cycles. It is the result that the first high compressive residual stress distributed by drawing process of the steel rods is released and the base metal is softened by alternating stresses. The region of infinite life by Haigh diagram presents highly in order of the boundary between deposited metal zone and heat affected zone, deposited metal zone, heat affected zone. From this results, it is demanded that the stress for safety design of machine components using SM45C butt-welded steel rods must be selected in the region of the lowest infinite life of heat affected zone.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of load on root that was applied to edentulous area in three simulated situation, in each case the guiding planes of abutment were right vertical, 95 degrees, or 100 degrees to residual ridge. The 2-dimensional finite element method was used and the finite element model was prepared as fellows. Right mandibular 1st and 2nd molar was lost and the 2nd premolar with distal rest was used as primary abutment which had three different degrees of guiding plane. Then 150N of compressive force was applied to central fossae of the 1st and 2nd molars and von Mises stress and displacement was measured. The results were as follows; 1. Irrespective of slopes of guiding planes, the stress was concentrated on mesial side of root apex and distal side of coronal portion of root, in particular on junction with distal alveolar bone. As slopes of guiding planes were increased. stress on root and compact bone surrounding abutment was increased but no considerable effect was seen on compact bone of residual ridge. 2. Distal side of coronal portion of root limited by periodontal ligament was displaced distally and mesial side of apical portion was mesially. With slope of guiding plane increasing, the pattern of displacement was similar with one another but the quantity was increased. 3. Both abutment & alveolar bone were displaced downward and root of abutment, especially distal side of coronal portion, was displaced severely. As the guiding plane was tiffed more mesially over $90^{\circ}$, the degree of displacement was also increased.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the stress distributions of NiTi rotary instruments based on their cross-sectional geometries of triangular shape-based cross-sectional design, S-shaped cross-sectional design and modified rectangular shape-based one using 3D FE models. NiTi rotary files of S-shaped and modified rectangular design of cross-section such as Mtwo or NRT showed larger stress change while file rotation during simulated shaping. The stress of files with rectangular cross-section design such as Mtwo, NRT was distributed as an intermittent pattern along the long axis of file. On the other hand, the stress of files with triangular cross-section design was distributed continuously. When the residual stresses which could increase the risk of file fatigue fracture were analyzed after their withdrawal. the NRT and Mtwo model also presented higher residual stresses. From this result, it can be inferred that S-shaped and modified rectangular shape-based files were more susceptible to file fracture than the files having triangular shape-based one.

  • The welding residual stresses produced by the welding frequently caused a crack and promote stress corrosion etc. in HAZ(heat affected zone) contained with external load and weakness of material. Therefore, PWHT(post welding heat treatment) is widely used to reduce wekdubg residuss, to relax hardening of heat affected zone and to get rid of impurity. In this study, in order to define the effect on shappes of T-welded joint, during the post welding heat treatment, we have carried out numerical analyses on the several test pieces by using computer program which was based on thermal-elasto-plato-plasto-creep theories for the study. The main results obtained form this study is as follows: 1) The mechanical difference for change the thickness of plate and groove angle did not appear. 2) The distribution modes of welding residual stresses are same on the all test specimens during the post welding heat treatment. 3) In a mecharical point of view, minimum groove groove angle($40^{circ}$) is more suitable than maximum groove angle($60^{circ}$). 4) Therefore, it is appropriate to minimize the size of groove shape in strength and safety.

  • Connections play a significant role in strength of structures against earthquake-induced loads. According to the post-seismic reports, connection failure is a cause of overall failure in reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Connection failure results in a sudden increase in inter-story drift, followed by early and progressive failure across the entire structure. This article investigated the cyclic performance and behavioral improvement of shape-memory alloy-based connections (SMA-based connections). The novelty of the present work is focused on the effect of shape memory alloy bars is damage reduction, strain recoverability, and cracking distribution of the stated material in RC moment frames under seismic loads using 3D nonlinear static analyses. The present numerical study was verified using two experimental connections. Then, the performance of connections was studied using 14 models with different reinforcement details on a scale of 3:4. The response parameters under study included moment-rotation, secant stiffness, energy dissipation, strain of bar, and moment-curvature of the connection. The connections were simulated using LS-DYNA environment. The models with longitudinal SMA-based bars, as the main bars, could eliminate residual plastic rotations and thus reduce the demand for post-earthquake structural repairs. The flag-shaped stress-strain curve of SMA-based materials resulted in a very slight residual drift in such connections.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the axial bearing capacity and residual properties of steel reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (SRC) column after elevated temperature. A total of 48 SRC columns were designed for the static loading test after elevated temperature. The variables include replacement ratios, designed temperature, target duration, thicknesses of cover concrete, steel ratios and stirrup spacing. From this test, the mass loss ratio and stress load-deformation curve were obtained, and the influence of various parameters on residual bearing capacity were analyzed. ABAQUS was used to calculate the temperature field of specimens, and then got temperature damage distribution on the cross-section concrete. It was shown that increasing of the elevated temperatures leaded to the change of concrete color from smoky-gray to grayish brown and results in reducing the bearing capacity of SRC columns. The axial damage and mechanism of SRC columns were similar to those of reinforced natural aggregate concrete columns at the same temperatures. Finally, the calculation method of axial compressive residual bearing capacity of SRC columns recycled concrete columns after high temperature was reported based on the test results and finite element analysis.

  • In the welded structure, the most dengerous section is welded parts and almost fractures of welded structure occur from welded parts. Accordingly, in other to prevents of fracture, it is important seeking the fracture behavior of welded parts. In this study as basic investigation of fracture behavior of welded parts, it is investigated that local distribution of fracture toughness and effect of multipass electrode welding, also effect of release of residual stress were investigated, as the subjected. material, the used steel having fatigue history and unused steel were selected. As the result of this study, it is dear that the base metal of unused steel and heat affected zone and weld metal are different each other in fracture toughness, and it seems clear that the weld metal may will become source of fracture because of it having the most low fracture toughness. Especially, in the case of crack occur in the used steel, it will be the most brittle section in the structure because of it having low fracture toughness then weld metal. It affirmation that, if welded parts has not flaw, the multi pass electrode welding effective to improve of fracture toughness, also release of residual stress is none effective to improve of fracture toughness in this study.
